Btw, what’s going on with elder scrolls six??? New Vegas came out right before Skyrim right? And it already has a remaster in the works, more Fallouts have long since dropped and we are STILL waiting on the next ES??

New Vegas came out fall 2010. Skyrim was fall 2011. Elder Scrolls Online was 2014. Fallout 4 was fall 2015. Fallout 76 was 2018.

I think they should have skipped ESO and F76.

I could be wrong but I don't think Bethesda Game Studios main team even primarily worked on those games, so I don't think they've delayed ES6 or Fallout 5 too much.

The real issue is the general creep up in timeline across the entire game industry. In the PS2 days we had GTA3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas over the course of 3 years. Basically you got one every year or so. By the time GTA6 comes out it will have been 13 YEARS since GTA5. Newly minted 18 year olds who can buy GTA6 would have been in preschool when GTA5 came out. This is the case with a lot of franchises currently. The time between releases are frequently approaching decades for most major franchises not named Resident Evil.

This obviously sucks for me because I would like to think I get to play more than 2 more elder scrolls games before I die of old age (which is shockingly not looking likely as a mid-thirties guy if the trend continues). I also think it's just horribly unhealthy for the games industry in general. How are games supposed to cultivate fanbases if entire generations of kids are going through their youths without anything coming out? Why would a 15 year old care about Elder Scrolls 6 when the last one came out before they were born?

So five years between major fallout releases,… and it’s going to be close to 20 years (hell, it could be longer for all we know) before the next major ES game,… even with everything Grey correctly noted, why is this particular game taking DECADES?? Hell they announced the game close to ten years ago now lol

There's been a number of conflicts that have delayed ES6. For one, I believe they upgraded their in house engine again which took some time. Then there was the departure with Starfield that was their main focus for quite awhile. Now it sounds like we're getting closer to a release for ES6, maybe next year, maybe 2028 at the latest? I think Microsoft will definitely push for earlier though, especially with the recent cuts. They want a return on their investments.

The fact Bethesda is working with Obsidian again is music to my ears though. @ACamp1900, I can't believe you haven't played New Vegas yet. It's arguably the best of the Bethesda era Fallouts. It has a lot more RPG elements than the others, a lot more factions and different options on how to complete quests so you can get many different endings. At this point if you haven't played it I'd wait for the remaster, but it's definitely worth your time.

You'd think so, but I just saw something where ESO has apparently brought Bethesda $2 billion in revenue since it's release! I had no fucking idea, I played it the first year or two it was out but didn't think it was all that popular or that it had grown to that level. Apparently Microsoft is taking resources away from it, which seems stupid given the money it generates. It apparently consistently pulls in $15 million a month, I'm at a loss.

Fallout 76 is a slightly different animal. Obviously there was the absolutely awful launch, which they later were able to recover from years later to a degree. They haven't generated the same revenue that ESO has, but apparently they've seen up and down popularity since the launch of the TV show. They're reportedly bringing in $20 million a month around the months each new season is released. That's not shabby if they're running with a skeleton crew. Earlier this year I picked Fallout 76 back up after not playing it since launch. It's definitely a better game, but it still suffers from the repetitive grind that other MMOs have. At some point you max your character on Perk points, you can continue getting level ups, but they do basically nothing other than allow you to collect more Perk Cards that you don't need or can really use. There's a new season every 3 months for you to grind tasks to unlock cosmetic items and some machines/utilities for your CAMP, but the rewards aren't particularly worth the time investment. It was fun for a bit, but running the same events every day gets old.

Just finished Kingdoms of the Dump. It's a short lndy RPG made by two janitors, yes, janitors. Do you like puns? Do you like ALL the puns? This entire game is nothing but puns about trash, or laundry, or stray cats and dogs, or carpentry. This game is HEAVILY inspired by old school SNES RPGs, particularly Super Mario RPG and probably FF 3/6. The game plays very similar to SM RPG in the turn based combat style as well as the light platforming when walking around dungeons. The level up stat choices are also identical to SM RPG.

I put 44 hours into the game, but it's probably closer to a 35-40 hour adventure. It's $20 regularly but may be less on a sale. It's a nice little adventure, not as polished as a AAA RPG of course, but I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs. Because of the lite platforming you occasionally run into some strange issues where you might fall behind some foreground but only once did I have to use the "Unstuck" feature. The devs are planning to release a patch soon with additional bug fixes, content, and a "Hard Mode" for those that want it. It's a complete game as is though.

If you enjoyed Super Mario RPG, puns, or a short story with a fun plot and characters, check it out

So far so good,… I’d have preferred a more traditional CV art style and not ‘Castlevania: Dead Cells style’ but whatever,.. definitely the release of the year for me

Anyway, I hope they make another one, I’ll get the dlc for sure

So this could go in the grind my gear thread but I’ll keep it here… I’ve been listening to podcasts covering different Castlevania games bc I’m bored with my normal music and topic rotation and I’m building up to Curse’s release,… one thing I’m just flabbergasted on, every podcast, covering every big game in the series always says, ‘this game has no story, this series has no lore or story at all.’ Like, this is a NES era franchise that has spawned a hit series, numerous knockoffs and dozens of sequels on, ‘no story’? It’s comparable are Mario, Mega Man, Double Dragon and Zelda,… each of which can be summarized as, ‘guy saves girl from bad guys’ in different universes yet none of those game are attacked for lack of story or lore,… for me CV has much better stories and lore than the others,… idk if it’s AVGN carryover or what but only this series gets shat on for being vague or lacking story when each of the aforementioned have less lore and some, namely Zelda, are even more vague… this Castlevania slander will not stand.

Ok. I was totally set to skip NHL this year and just continue my BaP,…. But just about everything that annoyed me with the game, stadiums not feeling authentic, crap/fake commentary and teams playing like their real world counterparts are all addressed here. If there’s a BaP improvement somewhere I’m stoked….

Playing Bond First Light bc I’ve heard nothing but good things,… I’m still early on in fairness but thus far it’s endless cut scene after endless cut scene and any action you do get is this lazy ‘press this button,.. NOW!!’ Garbage that I thought we got out of gaming bc we all uniformly agreed it sucks,… the story isnt my cup of tea too honestly,… I hope it gets better quick bc it’s been a massively let down early

Give it to the first mission in the hotel. Agree, it's a long tutorial.

Its a loooong runway for sure, but it does take off and soar eventually. Think Uncharted meets Hitman while wearing a Bond skin. It's very, very good.

The wife wanted to play a game (she’s not a gamer), and picked a long forgotten game my daughter and I bought on discount and let collect dust after five minutes,.. breath of the wild,… Now I think those who have been in this thread from the beginning might remember I dislike Zelda games generally, and find the classic ones to be historically overrated,… anyway, of course she’s liking it, but needs help here and there so I jump in but GOOD LORD are these some of the most annoying, cumbersome controls I’ve ever experienced. lol,…

Breath of the Wild is overrated, but I wouldn't say the older Zelda games are. Link to the Past was legendary, and of course Ocarina of Time is arguably a Top 3 game of the N64/PSX era. The original is obviously revolutionary for it's time, and Adventures of Link gets a bad rap but I enjoyed it.
Breath of the Wild was lacking story, Ganon didn't have a damn line if I recall. It was just a shit ton of puzzles/dungeons and at some point I got burned out and just finished the game instead of completing them all. I never did fully power up the Master Sword, got through the first 2 trials and gave up on the 3rd. I probably could have done the 3rd, but it was time consuming and didn't feel like it was worth the effort.

The NES games are both wildly overrated, not bad games, but not all time classics either. They hold cart F’d up are ability to be honest about them lol. Just not a Zelda fan really

Maybe not by today's standards, but classics have to be judged in a vacuum. The first was revolutionary. The second was a bold move that many didn't like, but it was well done and it gets a lot of unfair criticism.

I love NES games generally, I just don’t hold those two in near as high regard as many
