I believe some journalism schools have tried to use never winter nights (or maybe it was morrowind? Or both?) To teach students about gathering information to write an article. Though I am not sure. Maybe it was just one random professor?

Both are very good games. It's been awhile since I've played Morrowind, but in both cases you tend to get a quest, follow clues and leads to where the problem lies, then solve the problem to complete the quest. That all of course can be said of any RPGs really, but I noticed that NWN does a good job of updating the Quest Log and describing everything that's happening and has happened leading up through the quest chain. From an information standpoint it's pretty thorough, probably one of the first RPGs to detail everything out like that as if you were reading a diary or journal. Morrowind may have had the same thing though, I need to revisit it again. Both NWN and Morrowind were actually released the same year.

I've beaten a game or two in my day... but beating Morrowind was the single most rewarding feeling I've felt in a video game.

That was back in the good ol' days where if your character couldn't defeat an enemy, you had to go back and level up. Nowadays, they adjust enemy difficulty based on player level.

That's garbage. It was also a rewarding game because it didn't give directions on the map. You had to review your journal to figure out where to go.

I beat that game in....2004? I was a 7th grader. So yes. 2004.

The GTA Trilogy remaster looks like absolute dog shit...

But I'm gonna spend the $60 on it anyway, because you can't put a price on nostalgia*!

*Narrator: you absolutely can, and $60 is probably too steep

I need an XBox for that kind of action, Cotton.

But reports are that it feels like playing Multiplayer in Halo 2/3, so I'm suddenly considering a Series S/X rather than the PS5 I was previously locked into... but God of War...

Gamepass is honestly such an extraordinary bargain right now I have trouble justifying any other gaming system purchase than an Xbox.

Yeah, $60 sounds too steep given the absolute bombing it's receiving on Metacritic and the glitches. I'd wait till it's on sale or something. Some of these are hilarious.

My niece just started playing this on my switch. It’s the reason I bought a switch. Played maybe 4 hours of it before I gave up because the game felt so empty.

On a better note,… NHL’s Be a Pro mode is flawed and needs a feed more additions EA will surely never make but it’s still super fun. This and The Shows career mode are the most fun I’ve had since NCAA went away

This is good stuff. My daughter has been playing Breath of the Wild too, but hasn't touched the original.

Since she's been in Kindergarten I've been having her play through the old Squaresoft RPGs: first Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (Easy reading), Final Fantasy IV, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, now Chrono Trigger. Early on it really helped with her reading, it became her summer reading project. If she develops a love of JRPGs in the process...bonus points.

Got into the Castlevania series on Netflix recently. Been meaning to check it out, pretty cool they kept so many references to the games. I just got to Season 4, only disappointingly part so far...needs more vampire sex. I'm already looking forward to the spinoff that will follow SotN timeline.

The show made me go back and finally beat SotN over the weekend. Had to start from scratch on my Raspberry Pi since I've been too lazy to hook up the old systems lately. Finally got through both castles though and the good ending. I might go back and finally beat Castlevania III too.

Really? Why's that? I'm not big on all the forge master stuff, but I get they needed a human component to tell the other side, especially with Dracula being toast. I thought they did a good job with the tragic backstory and not painting him as some ruthless villain. Season 1 was probably my favorite, when they had the battle in the castle and "Bloody Tears" started playing? I got amped lol.

This was a big reason honestly... I'm so tired of the 'we must validate the villain' trend.... and then they made the church be the real bad guy because they're obviously all evil anyway right??? ... hated it.

Fair, it's certainly an overused trope these days, but it's still probably better than the mustache twirling typical baddie.
On another note, apparently the Forgemaster stuff was all part of Curse of Darkness on PS2, I never played it. St. Germain was there too. Guess I'm gonna have to find a copy.

I recently went back and finished Legend of the Dragoon on my Raspberry Pi recently. Never finished the game back in the day, had an unfortunate memory card erasure due to an ex-girlfriend. Sadly I came away not all that impressed, I don't think the game holds up as well as people say it has.
The combat was a bit of a twist on the old turn based combat of JRPGs at the time, but after awhile it becomes rote and dull imo.
The Dragoon attacks are rather annoying too, especially if you level your characters up enough. You get to a point in the game where your normal Addition attacks are far superior to Dragoon attacks, which makes no sense. Gotta wonder if they even tested that out end-game.
The dialogue is a bit weak at times, and there are a number of similarities to FF7's plot which makes the game feel a bit cheap.
I wouldn't go so far to say it was a bad game even in hindsight if you consider the era it came from, I just think people have looked at it with nostalgia goggles a bit too much and have overstated it's value.

I'm currently replaying Chrono Cross next as I've been leading my daughter through Chrono Trigger and I figured it was a good move from Legend of the Dragoon. For all the vitriol Chrono Cross gets being tied to Chrono Trigger I find it to be a pretty decent game at the end of the day.
There's just a ton of characters and some are fleshed out decently, although there are definitely a lot of throw-a-ways with a cast of 45 playable party members. It's hard not to find several favorites with that many to choose from.
Much like LotD the combat isn't straight forward turn based attacks as you have some choices to make in how you use your stamina, but the nice thing is I don't have to worry about timing unlike LotD. If I'm tired and can't be arsed to get the timings right I can just enjoy the game without having to worry about it.
As far as other features the Magic is effective and doesn't have long ass animations like LotD.
The dialogue is interesting because it can change based on which of the 45 members you've included in your party in that moment.
The antagonists and the plot are intriguing, which is more than I can say of the unclear nature of Lloyd (Sephiroth clone?) and Melbu Frahma (Weird fucking name) from LotD.
The transitions from the map/overworld to the battle screen aren't quite as long in Chrono Cross too...in LotD it can drag often times as they have a pixelated blur effect going into the battle screen...and then the camera spins around showing you the enemies and the terrain, and then it finally flips around and shows you the menu after a 10 second montage. Having a 10 second montage like this before every fight gets tedious.

Other than replaying CC I've also been dabbling with 7 Days to Die again which just released Alpha 20. I'm playing on a server with some friends. One of them has a mod with some Quality of Life additions added like fishing traps, some added drinks, and a few other things found in other mods. Nothing game breaking, it's all pretty balanced.
