Sigh, I caved and preordered For Honor. I hated it 72 hours ago but all I can think about is wanting to go home and play it.

Not about the game, why did you preorder? Don't preorder.

It comes out tomorrow. I figure I could give Best Buy $50 now or give Best Buy $50 in 24 hours. Might as well get the dope skins out of it.

In theory it incentivizes the studios to make suck-ass games because they already have your money. IMO, I want progression-based multiplayer games ASAP so I can keep up a little better with the kids who play nonstop and level up like crazy.

I'm comfortable with the way Ubisoft is monetizing this one. Their season pass is cosmetics-only, and almost all of the stuff will be unlockable with free in-game currency to everyone after the season pass people get early access. All future maps and game modes will be free updates.

You guys suck. All I want to do is talk about For Honor and agonize over which faction I want to join.

Been watching it on Twitch. Warden looks to be the strongest class atm. Orochi and Peacekeeper also very strong. Based on what I've seen, I'd rank them Knights > Samurai > Vikings.

Yeah. But I suck and plan to suck for the foreseeable future. So I'm going to git gud with whichever one is kewlest, not the one with the most endgame viability. I'm a little bummed that there's no sword-and-board knight class a la the Divine Crusader I played to death in Oblivion.

Closest classes to that playstyle would be the Conqueror and the Warlord. The former is a very tanky class with some brutal counters, and the latter looks to be the strongest Viking, who excels at cheesing enemies into environmental kills.

Yeah I played Warlord in the open beta. I expect those environmental kills will be a lot harder to come by once people figure out how to counter the shield break.

Also, what's a weeb? I don't want to Google it because it sounds racist and/or sexual.

Sorry man I've tried to get into FIFA and I just can't do it.

You for real? Fifa is a shade below NCAA for my favorite sports game. Playing FIFA also makes watching real soccer a lot easier and learning who the big dogs are (clubs, players, countries).

From what I've read FH is pretty broken right know in that it heavily favors defensive play, to the point where the offensive classes aren't viable in high level play. The Warden is so popular because it's the only class that can effectively punish defensive tactics. Think I'll pick this up on sale somewhere down the line once Ubi hammers out the kinks.

I always see this complaint about all sorts of different games. Who cares what's viable in "high level play?" I care what's viable in plebe level play.

Maybe the twitch streams I see all suck, but I don't see what's entertaining about this game. It looks good visually, and maybe I just don't know enough to appreciate the underlying strategy, but I've watched 15 or so matches and they all kind of look the same.

Most recent patch made environmental kills even easier. Been watching a skilled Cheeselord push enemies over ledges, onto spikes, into fire, etc. all morning.

It's basically an anime-obsessed pre-pubescent neckbeard. Should be safe to Google.

As far as dueling goes, the most powerful classes right now are all pretty offensive-- Warden, Orochi and Peacekeeper. The defensive classes seem to do better in Dominion battles, where their ability to hold a point for a long time is actually useful.

Do you like fighting games? Because that's what For Honor is, at heart. I love fighters, and I love the 3rd person melee combat system from Dark Souls and Witcher 3, so I'm very excited for this game. Especially since it allows for some cool new game modes that haven't been tried before. Dominion battles are pretty unique.

I've taken a bit of a break lately, but still get on every three days or so. greyhammer88 on PSN.

I'm Down_Bee on PSN -- we should get an IE team going. I hate playing in Pubs where every team has three offensive heroes on it.

As someone is is also Plebe level, you're still going to run into enough people who know what they're doing and other Plebes will pick up the tactics soon enough. A game that heavily favors a single style of play where there's only one class right now that can effectively punish it doesn't sound fun to me.

It needs rebalancing to make other play styles viable. Until then, it's not worth 60 bucks to me

Only three? I always play Support (usually Zenyatta), and I'm thrilled if there's a single decent tank on my pub team.

I'd be down. I tried to get one going earlier, but couldn't ever get more than one IEer at a time to play. Wizard had to screw it up by being an Xbox owner.

Do you still have PSN? I haven't seen you online in forever.

My sub expired, and I've been too busy to bother renewing it yet. When I find some time to game again, I'll probably buy another code off Amazon and reactivate.

I see a decent amount of Roadhog and DVa in pubs.

My biggest complaint is that no one wants to be Reinhardt (IMO, the most valuable tank with strong defensive traits) because he doesn't get a ton of kills. Oh, and snipers... everyone wants to be a sniper.

Reinhardt is my other main. It's amazing how much people bitch about having crappy teammates in pubs, but no one is willing to play Rein or a healer to actually make a balanced team.

Oh, and snipers... everyone wants to be a sniper.

Hanzos... Hanzos everywhere.

Edit: They applied the "1 character/ team limit" in Quick Play too now, right? That must have helped things.

I hate that all of IE is on PS4. I'm a Rein / D.Va main.

But Overwatch is a good example of what I was talking about with For Honor in terms of not caring about the high level meta. I don't care what Taimou or TviQ or Seagull can do with McCree. Nobody I play with is TviQ so they need to shut up and pick Rein/Soldier/D.Va/Lucio/Zen/Reaper.

Wait, there used to be no limits on heroes in Quick Play?

I just got the game a week ago. That sounds like a nightmare -- I actually joined an Arcade match called No Limit (had no idea what it was at the time) and the team we faced had 5 (!!) Soldiers on it. Hard pass, never again.

I want to be good with McCree so bad, but end up getting destroyed every time I choose him.

Yes, Quick Play used to be what Arcade is now. You'd run into some interesting combinations. Two Reinhardts and two Bastions on a payload was pretty unstoppable.

When I last played (months ago), it wasn't uncommon to have 2-3 Hanzos on a single Quick Play team. #FML

I want to be good with McCree so bad, but end up getting destroyed every time I choose him.

He was my favorite Offensive character. Nailing headshots repeatedly from distance is pretty much impossible on console, though if you can get down the Flashbang > Fan the Hammer combo, he works great as an anti-flanker guard dog for your team.

There's some truth to that. I think it's still helpful to know which characters are strongest at the most competitive level (especially if you aspire to get on a higher level yourself someday), but there's a lot of difference between it and the pub meta. McCree, for instance, is slow and has no way to heal himself, so he needs a Zenyatta or Lucio nearby to be effective. In pubs, where the presence and/or competence of such healers is far from guaranteed, he's a much riskier pick than, say, Soldier 76.

You alluded to this, but it's also important to be cognizant of the fact that high-level competitive play is almost always on PC. McCree is a character that has a much steeper learning curve on console. I honestly doubt a console McCree player can ever be as effective as a high-level PC counterpart.
