Playing a little Minecraft /w Feed the Beast Infinity Evolved Modpack currently. I'm awful with creative building type stuff and never cared for that end of Minecraft, which is why I like FTB modpacks that add tons of machines, engineering, and devices to the game. Vanilla Minecraft is rather boring and somewhat childish, but there's something cool about building mining machines, large smelters, lasers, reactors, and that sort of thing. It typically adds a number of enemies to the game, and even some other dimensions to bump the difficulty up. I'm not running a server currently, but in the past a few buddies and I have run one for a few months at a time. FTB modpacks just add so much to the game it's like a whole new experience. Lots of new bosses to fight, like a Hydra, Minotaur, Alpha Yeti, Lich, and Ur-Ghast.

Less combat focused than what you're talking about, but on the subject of building interlocking complicated machines, have you played Factorio? Sounds like you would like it.

Have you played it? I'm kinda curious to get people's opinions. It's funny you mention that, I did add it to my Steam Wishlist a few months back. I do like the complexity of everything working together in an automated system, but to be honest I find the trailer somewhat dizzying. I enjoy the progression and way everything works together /w Feed the Beast Minecraft mods, but I wonder if Factorio won't be too large scale for me...and what is the endgame? I do play sim games on occasion, stuff like Banished, Civ, SimCity, etc. Unless there's an end goal defined I usually lose interest though, I just can't build to infinity. That said, Factorio is getting Overwhelmingly Positive feedback on Steam, so I'm probably still going to give it a try at some point.

For those that aren't familiar, here's a trailer:

Was the first a good game?

Great gameplay and a system called "Nemesis system" which was so awesome that I'm shocked hasn't been ripped off by now.

But the story was boring...

I played it a lot but never finished it. Still glad I bought it. I know there are some on here that adore it though.

What was the storyline to that game? Parallel to movies? Post-movies? Pre-movies?

It's amazing how many Tolkien games they've done since LOTR first came out. I can only think of one game that was done prior to the movies, a LOTR for SNES. Since the Peter Jackson movies though...so many adaptations and spin offs, I can't keep track. I'm at least proud to say I read the books long before the movies and grew up owning the original animated Hobbit film...we did rent the animated Return of the King, but it wasn't quite as enjoyable if I recall.

Played a bit of Tom Clancy Wildlands Beta tonight. Very unique game, reminds me a bit of The Division, Far Cry, and GTA V

The visuals look amazing, and I've always wanted to control a Balrog of Morgoth for my own devices.

The story, like the first game I guess, seems well-designed to fit before the action of the main series, and sounds like a fanboy's dreams. Making Sauron battle for Mordor before he can battle for Middle Earth is bad-guy porn. And it might even explain a non-existent issue from the main series, which is "why was Sauron sitting around doing nothing while he was in eye-form? Couldn't he send some armies out to conquer the land before taking on Gondor?"

The only issue I have with the game, though, is how does Sauron appear in physical form if he couldn't physically manifest in the movies*?

The obvious answer kind of spoils the potential ending of the game, I guess.

*Editor's Note: There is an unreleased deleted scene from Return of the King, where Sauron DOES manifest physically, and comes out to confront Aragorn in hand-to-hand combat, during the Battle of Mordor. They decided it was too unfaithful to the books to let it stand, despite the obvious entertainment value, and had Aragorn fight the cave troll instead.

So are you a bad guy trying to usurp Sauron or are you a bro just trying to distract Sauron from Gondor by fucking his shit up?

Like I said I never finished the first game.

The latest Assassin's Creed leak, seems to confirm previous speculation that you will be climbing pyramids in Giza. The interesting bit about this screenshot, is that the shield of the character, appears to be a greek style. If this next game is going to be a character exploring the Mediterranean during ancient antiquity, I am all for it. Sounds like the greatest game of all time for me.

I never finished the first game either (don't think I even got 25% of the way through it), but I did read about the storyline.

Basically, at the end of the first game, the Wraith part of the ranger and the ranger decide to keep messing things up for Sauron, and their plan is to create a second ring of power to really screw him, since the Wraith (Celebrimbor) created the original Rings of Power.

This game is about that, I guess. They create the Ring of Power, but in so doing, the Wraith and the Ranger are separated from eachother. The Ranger then has to build his own forces in Mordor, to try and take Mordor from Sauron's control.

I don't know how they reconcile Sauron appearing in physical form, nor how they plan to reconcile him going back to eye-form at the end of the game, but any shitty explanation could be pigeon-holed in, and the outcome of the game seems obvious based on that as well.

That would be the tits, although traveling a map four-times the size of that in ACIV would be interesting if there's not naval combat... perhaps horses and chariots over flat stretches of land?

They don't even need to make the entire eastern part of the sea 1 map. I would prefer they just made separate maps of say:

1. Southern Italy with Rome as the focal point in the north.
2. Greek mainland/Islands/Crete.
3. An eastern map with cyprus/ coast line of lebannon/isreal.
4. A final map of Nile Delta and inner egypt.

And just make each map huge. Like how the Witcher 3 has skellige and then Novigrad/Velen

Still going to wait for holiday for a few reasons. The biggest is because the library of games should be much better. LoZ, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart should be out by then and it will be a worthy pick up. Another issue is that there appear to be a huge number of left joycons with connection issues.

Blizzard just unveiled the next Overwatch hero: a new tank named Orisa. Looks very cool.

7 Offense, 6 Defense and now 6 tanks, but only 5 support. Would reactivate my PSN account if they released a healer that could hold its own in solo queue. Blizz pls.

I haven't owned a console since college... may get a Switch if Zelda is really that good. Seems a steep price to pay for one game though.

Wait for a bundle like me. It'll come eventually. And by the time it does Mario, Mario Kart, etc. should be out.

A year of PSN is only like $50, and you get free games every month to add to your library. IMO it's worth getting it for a year, if only for the free games.

I've been playing Rising Storm 2 Vietnam on PC as a beta tester. Love that era, and can't wait until it's released. I had never heard of the series either, as anyone who reads this is probably thinking right now....

Has anyone played Breath of the Wild yet?

I haven't yet, but I've heard it's pretty amazing. I've also heard there's framerate issues at times, mostly in areas with lots of animation like grassy locations or during combat.

I have a lineup of games I'm trying to get through, namely my playthrough of the AC series. I just barely scratched the surface of ACIII, with Liberation, IV, Rogue, Unity and Syndicate still up after that. A long way to go.

However, after that "Shadow of War" trailer dropped, and being the LotR Super Nerd that I try to hide in public, it kept gnawing at me and gnawing at me, and so a few nights ago I ganked the "Shadow of Mordor" GotY edition from my little bro.

I'll be starting "Assassin's Creed in Mordor" tonight.

That's because the Switch is an under-powered POS stuck in the last generation of consoles.
