He appraently (allegedly) had his brother in law assasinated in the Malaysian airport. Two women worked to gether, one distracted him and another came up from behind and applied some sort of poison to him. He went straight to the medical office and was promptly transferred to a local hospital. He died in route within an hour. whatever it was, it was fast acting.

I'm not even sure that "allegedly" is needed.

Does anyone disagree that it's only a matter of time before this madman uses chemical or nuclear weapons against South Korea and/or the US?

China's got the DPRK on a short leash. It's extremely unlikely that they'd do anything like that without Beijing's approval. And since WWIII isn't in China's interests, odds are that the status quo will be maintained. But crazier things have happened...

Or China for that matter. He's delusional and it's going to get him wiped off the face of the earth if he doesn't tone it down. I suspect a civil war will eventually catch up to him... I sense a lot of resentment from the hungry and tired masses.

I do to a degree. He either is never going to get the chance or would be dumb to risk his power. I see one of two things....

1 - I think you are seeing these actions, or more reactions, to him losing power within his country. He is trying to use fear to quell the fury. There have been rumors for the past few years that his own military has been plotting a coup. Who knows for sure, but I doubt he would take out his anger outwards when his own team is the one causing his instability.

2 - Let's say his power isn't in jeopardy. If he would do what you suggest, the international community would come after him militarily, which is something they have largely avoided. He would be giving up both his power and his family power. I don't see it.

*Raises Hand*

There's much to indicate that he's a sociopath, but he's obviously a sociopath who likes living in a nice palace, watching sports and movies, and generally being the playboy of his own country. Attacking South Korea or the U.S. is a swift death sentence. I think he'll do the same thing as his predecessor. Make a lot of noise among his own people about what he's going to do to the West to distract them from the fact that they live in a dystopia, attempt to strengthen his military in the event that a war does occur, and that's about it.

What is it about guys with small hands??

Seriously though do you guys really think it would take a world war to take care of this clown? If the US or China was ever motivated it would be like a bear swatting away a mouse that was bothering it.

Even though NK's military is a joke in the sense that we would win easily, it would be a massive headache in that a large number of American soldiers would likely die stupid deaths at the hands of a brainwashed citizenry and you would have a massive rebuild and reeducation of that brainwashed citizenry. From what I understand (not saying much in this sphere) this is why China has an active interest to let NK be NK, as they are the logical country to foot that bill.

In my opinion, if it comes to that, it will be China that takes the lead. I cannot see China "allowing" the U.S. to upset the current regime as it might become a logistical nightmare and will only create further tensions.

That being said, it would put South Korea in a rather difficult position politically.

See, I see several ways it happens. All have to do with China.

1) China's currency manipulation catches up to them, hyperinflation drives them into depression. So they politely tell this fella that he must attack us or suffer their wrath. So he does, thinking he has mother of dragons protecting him. Which China uses as leverage to force us to remove Trump Tarrifs and pay back significant amounts of our foreign debt to them in the form of an injection into their economy. After all, building a wall and making others pay for it was their idea first. Ha Either way... we do it to stave off WW3 against the biggest military in the world.

2) He literally goes mad, which is totally possible.

3) China joins the real world and becomes a true democracy.

I could go on, but I'm on my phone.

The issue isn't knocking over Kim's government, or defeating his pathetic military. It's in overwhelming his forces before he's able to launch a retaliatory strike against Seoul (which isn't currently feasible), and in risking war with China by attacking one of its client states. The DPRK acts as a natural buffer between South Korea (our ally) and its own border; and, as greyhammer mentioned above, when Kim's regime eventually does collapse, China will be left to clean up a lot of the mess (massive refugee in-flows, etc.)

The Kim family gets away with its outrageous rhetoric and human rights abuses because none of the major players is willing to pay the costs involved with regime change.

I agree with people who don't think he's crazy.

He's just evil, in the traditional sense of the word. He totally disregards the good of everyone and everything around him, and focuses all his energy on satisfying his lust for power, wealth, and fame.

I doubt that he would so anything to risk it. But you need people to know that you are willing to go to any length to stay in power, if that is the game you are playing.

It's quite a price to pay! A nuclear strike would be devastating, leaving millions dead disrupting everything worldwide.

They need to hold their noses, try to buy out the ruling class for a few dozen billion dollars, move them all to China or Russia or somewhere, and then let China and Korea negotiate the peace.

The media started using "allegedly" because of losing a lawsuit years ago. By inserting that one word they buffer themselves. Looks like we have a few on here who are afraid the little midget will sue them. lol

True, the real question......Iis this guy sane enough to listen or is he just a ticking time bomb that will eventually say "F@ck 'em" and push the button?

People with a lot to lose can generally be counted on to act in their own self-interest. And Kim's basically the emperor of North Korea. So I very much doubt he'd risk all his power and comfort for a single act of defiance.

I agree... if he is sane and/or somewhat rational.

However, killing your detractors with an anti-aircraft gun, in front of their families, cries insanity/sociopath... to me anyway. From what I have read, there are plenty more examples. Let's all hope he chokes on some bad Kimchi.
