Finished
Just finished The Crossing (second in The Border Trilogy), very good but hard to read at some points. Very philosophical but meandering around like a knight errant.

I'm now on Blood Meridian, 50 pages in and I can tell this will be good.

Finishing "Theismann" written by himself of course. It is older but a good read. Super entertaining and funny. Some ND references but mainly about him. Any football fans, especially of the qb position, will enjoy. Recommendable.

Finished a book called Disco’s Out, Murders In.

It’s the memoir of a guy who was in a punk rock gang in the 80’s.

Writing isn’t the best and the author probably overstates some of his personal escapades but some interesting stories nonetheless. It also provides some perspective in terms of how much LA has changed since then.

The punk scene there at that time was really violent.

Just read the prologue to "Knife of Dreams," book 11 in the Wheel of Time.

This is the last one written solely by Robert Jordan, so going to try and pay special attention to the writing style (as if I don't have 10 dense books' worth by now). I've been curious for a while now as to how much the last three will differ having been written by Sanderson with Jordan's notes.

The past few were quite the slog. Books 7, 8 and 9 at least had great climaxes, the last 100 pages or so of each being great... Book 10 didn't even have that. It had 50 pages of intrigue maybe, and it ended on a cliffhanger.

The prologue to this one starts with an immediate BANG though, so I'm hoping it foreshadows plenty of action to come.

I have quite enjoyed the series so far overall, despite the cliche criticisms that have been extremely accurate (so many arms crossed below breasts).

It's a nice refresher of more "standard" fantasy after having been invested in the Erikson/Esslement Malazan world for so long.

Just about finished with the Dark Tower series, maybe 200 pages remaining in the 7th and final book (not counting 4.5, Wind Through the Keyhole, which I recently purchased and plan on reading). Man, what a journey.

Wolves of the Calla (#5) was actually very, very enjoyable, though it was definitely overshadowed a bit by how epic Wizard and Glass was.

Song of Sussanah was very "meh" and I'm glad it was the shortest since The Gunslinger. Just seemed like a filler, albeit a necessary one.

Has anyone read Wind Through the Keyhole? Just trying to figure out if I should jump right into that and call it a day on the DT series, or take another break from it and pick something else up.

Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. Very solid about 150 pages in

Great book! One of my all time favorites.

Let me add to Bishop's recommendation. Dostoyevsky had such a profound insight into the human mind. I loved Crime and Punishment and The Idiot. Polar opposite protagonists who are masterfully crafted.

I have not read "Demons" or "Notes from the Underground" but they are on my list.

I really liked Demons, an excellent look into the political and philosophical thought that was going around Russia at that time.

Currently reading "The Secret" by Lee Child and Andrew Child. Quite good so far. Just finished "Killing the Witches" by Bill O
'Riley. Very interesting history on Salem, MA. Always have to have a good book to read.

Ate this entire series up late 2022 - early 2023. Enjoyed it.

Also read IT.

Really enjoy the Agent Pendergast series, got to get past the first 2 books before they turn into something really good.

I read about 45 books over the last 15 months as we moved away from watching so much television.

Currently I am reading the Longmire series. Loved the television series and was interested to see how different the books were.

This definitely cracked me up. I own over 25 titles by SK, but I think you can manage to get through the DT series without reading each and every book that gets mentioned in the series.

The Dead Zone was very good, doesn't get enough hype in SK lore, IMO. Still need to read The Stand, IT (will probably wait for Halloween to get into that one), and Insomnia.

I also just bought his Mr Mercedes trilogy after already having seen the show, which I really enjoyed. Bought Holly as well.

I missed this earlier. This describes about 10-15% of the books my wife has been reading lately. She's gotten into a genre of fantasy books that have a number of.....ahem.....intense interpersonal relations descriptively explained. These scenes are only 3-5% of the book, the rest is world building and story development so not a perfect match to the tweet.

It has resulted in improved nighttime routines for us so I'm fairly happy with this development. YMMV, Caveat Emptor.
