Spotted Cow. My thoughts are the same from last time I had it. There's no need for the hype.

Had a Karben4 Amber yesterday that was very good and I don't even like ambers.

Right now, short pour of 3 Floyds Space Station. Very good pale ale, hoppy

Point Milkshake Malt. Chocolatey goodness, roast coffee. Very nice for a porter.

Had a taste of New Holland Smores, super duper tasty. This growler room ran out of it within an hour of pouring.

Had a Pipewerks Ninja v Unicorn double IPA, good stuff just as last time.

Local beer, Eldo Bowl Blood Orange flavored wheat ale. Significantly better as it warms, a lot of sediment though. Smells a little of a saison, not too much blood orange though plenty of wheat flavor.

Getting beer in my hometown the last day before my drive back to Austin. Fat Pug Oatmeal Milk Stout. Lots more oatmeal than I was anticipating. Very quaffable, though I probably wouldn't drop $10 on a 4 pack of tall boys on it again.

Modern Times Critical Band IPA
Château Bouscassé 2009 with some grilled ribeye. Pretty good but could use a few more years. Still very tannic but worked well with being in the glass for a bit and the fatiness of the meat.

Nice pickup, but we need to talk about your electric/wiring situation.

1 word: roommates. Trying to keep this place super clean would take all my free time (and then some). Still teaching one of them how to clean up after himself in the kitchen while also not getting water everywhere

Tbh I'm kinda surprised the wiring is getting called out and not the size of the table

Shorts Soft Paradise, a high gravity ale with lotsa fruit in it. Honestly didn't have much flavor from the added fruit I'd expected from my other tastes of Shorts.

Shorts Melt my Brain. Seems weaker than last time but still has lots of lime.

Pipewerks Ninja v Unicorn again. This really grows on me

Tried Stagg, Jr. for the first time. Strong and sweet, huge barrel flavors, tastes like a cask-strength Makers' Mark.

Also tried St. George's Baller. The finishing in umeshu casks gave it a weird medicinal flavor which really put me off. Not my jam at all.

Lagunitas Sumpin Easy with homemade carnitas tacos. The pork is a bit tough though, gotta work on that. Cracking open some good stuff tonight!

is it in a cradle? tax seal unbroken?
It's probably worth 3-500 or more if so. There are tons of sites that talk about vintage whiskey, so recommend a google....

taste.... drank it as a teen 30 years ago.... "i was really drunk at the time" so I've included the google below lol.

EYE
Nice golden honey hue.

NOSE
There is an initial astringency that takes a second to blow off. Once it does there is a classic bourbon profile of caramel and vanilla that is paired with some honey, brown butter, and bruleed bananas. A very light fruit runs underneath the whole nose with a bit of fresh corn keeping it company.

TASTE
The taste is where the Old Grand-Dad really shines. Caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, corn, nutmeg, and some pepper are the principle flavors. There are some very sweet dessert like qualities to this bourbon with candied nuts, cherries, and a hint of fruit. Adding water or ice enhances the caramel and vanilla while simultaneously bringing out some additional savory notes of brown butter and something that reminds me of sage.

FEEL
It’s a little strong and numbing. I’ve had 100 proof whiskey that is a bit smoother (Wild Turkey 101), but it’s still incredibly drinkable. A splash of water will calm things down a bit without sacrificing any flavor so if you’re finding it a bit unruly give that a go.

FINISH
Graham crackers and fruit that fades to barley.

No cradle but the tax seal is unbroken. Only 86 proof so I figured it wouldn't be worth much.

Lagunitas cherry Jane, solid. Columbus brewing bodhi, better. About to open a 2018 kbs as well. Then it’s vodka time.

Been on a beer run for the past week. Was in deepest, darkest Indiana for a week and the locals have been doing their homework.

Went to Tin Man Brewing in Evansville and had many, many of the Dry Cell Irish Stouts and their Rivet Irish Ale too. Good stuff. I didn't venture into their other offerings.

In the Indy area sampled Daredevil's Lift Off IPA which would be right at home in San Diego also had Grand Junction's Hoosier Cream Ale which I enjoyed at the pool in Africa Hot temps. (How do people live in the Midwest?... too dang hot). Hoosier Cream Ale has great art work on it's can. Looks like Jimmy Chitwood could come walking out of the barn.

Went to a bbq on the 4th and one of the in-laws brought a 3 Floyd's care package down from the region. Did the tour of:

Alpha King
Yum Yum
Zombie Dust
Gumballhead
Dreadnaught

Then polished off a 6 of Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood. LOVE.

Even had a Yuengling just because.

Got back to AZ and found a couple surprise cases of Belching Beaver at the base camp. Phantom Bride & Digital Bath. BB is KILLING IT with these two and their Hoppy Hoppy Night. Also got a couple 6's of Pizza Port Swami's and a 6 of Pickleweed Point IPA a limited release.

Digital Bath is another limited release collaboration with the Deftones. AWESOME.

Beer is good.

No, but I know that BiB Old Grand-Dad is the best value when it comes to cheap bourbon. My personal favorite in its price range. Bourbon is my go-to whiskey. I imagine it's pretty damn good.

Got back to AZ
You're from AZ, too? My favorite local brew is Elsie's Irish Coffee Milk Stout, but I'm not sure it'll be brewed anymore.

More Pipeworks Ninja v Unicorn. Damn good beer.

Last night my friends and I had a growler of Solemn Oath Snaggletooth Bandana, an IPA out of Naperville; Collective Arts hazy ipa (amazing); Daisy Cutter Pale ale; and New Glarus Raspberry Tart, definitely one of the best beers I've had this year.

Also my friend thinks the Old Granddad is much older than the 70s and therefore worth thousands, but I'm positive he's wrong. Grandpa gave me his blessing to sell, but I doubt I'll get an offer good enough to make me part with it.

can you take a pic of the bottom?
I've left the bottle with a friend but we looked at the bottom. Most of the molding is unreadable other than "liquor bottle", we even tried tracing paper.

Shorts Brew Soft Paradise. Love Shorts
