Just spent the weekend in Geneva, NY on Seneca Lake. The girlfriend enjoys wine, so I thought we should do a trip. Lucky for me, while I don't enjoy wine, there are a number of breweries popping up in the area. Gael Brewing Company made a delicious Rye Bread Ale that I took home a growler of. War Horse did a Barrel Aged Rosé Sour. And Fleur de Lis made a delicious milk stout that I would recommend to anyone.

Had The Bruery's White Chocolate again recently, and was just as amazing as I remembered. Pretty sure I've loved every beer of theirs I've ever tried.

I tried their 2015 Cuivre. I didn’t like it. It drank more like a port or a sherry. A small snifter was ok but a full bottle, no thanks. Very high alcohol content and bit too syrupy/sweet for me.

Had a tall Garage Brewing Hatch Green Chile IPA yesterday afternoon... I enjoyed it at first, that was until it made me ill and I threw up numerous times. Wouldn't recommend.

Nice! I just celebrated my ten year as well... tho we never saved the wedding cake at any point. I'm curious how it turned out...

Apparently its common to freeze the top tier for the one year anniversary. I was skeptical if it would turn out but it was completely fine once it thawed out. Tasted fresh and wasn't stale at all. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.

I've heard this several times. Congrats my man, not many better reasons to open a bottle of the good stuff!

Thanks! I definitely splurged a bit on the bottle with the expectation that the cake would be bad, so to have both good cake and great champagne was an excellent way to spend a Sunday evening with the Mrs.

Yeah I think that's why we didn't do that with ours... interesting that it turned out fine. Thanks and congrats again.

Saginaw Blueberry Maple Stout from a trade I did with a member here. Aged and I imagine that's why I tasted mainly maple.

Jester King Colonel Toby, from an aborted trade due to FedEx calling me out for shipping alcohol...lots of carbonation and hops still, bitter flavor. Very enjoyable actually.

Long long drive from Austin to IL, sidetracked by terrible storms and possibly barely missing a tornado (shout out to Our Lady for answering the 50 Hail Mary's I couldn't help but pray as soon as it got dark).

Right now: forgettable Great Lakes Pale Ale, burning river or something. Probably very old, so don't take my word for it definitively. Also, Sol.

Stopped at Scratch Brewing to meet my brother on the way up. Couldn't possibly be more back roads, but the beer was pretty decent. The Barrel Aged Weizenbock and Sorrel in particular were good. They had a turmeric beer that was basically just a very very light saison.

I've had the Burning River before. It's good. Nothing special about it, but it's good when fresh.

Speaking of Jester King, I can't remember if I posted this or not but steer way clear of their Gotlandsdricka smoked beer. It was like drinking carbonated liquid smoke while gnawing on a piece of bacon. If Vikings had to drink this stuff its no wonder they decided to invade Flanders.

Their Biere de Miel on the other hand was quite nice.

Speaking of Vikings, do they still make this stuff? Havent seen it in years, and remember buying it for the bottle, but liking it:

I've had the Gotlandsdricka before and wasn't overly impressed then (not a huge fan of smoked beers), but I don't recall it tasting THAT smoky. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad batch from them (and not one of my fave of their beers).

The Biere de Miel is indeed pretty good. Not super sought after but very solid.

Fermentorium Crimson Murmurations. Tastes more like a spicy (as in spices) triple than a saison. Flat, sweet, easy going down.

Had a taste of Good City Leo Wit, great nose, underwhelming taste.

Door County Silurian Stout on nitro is really solid. Chocolatey but smooth

Yeah, Jester King is usually pretty solid. That smoked beer threw me for a loop though. It was pretty much the least refreshing thing I’ve ever drank.

That's how I feel about most smoked beers. Live Oak's smoked beers are the only ones I've ever bothered to order twice. JK did a collaboration with Franklin's once. Seemed like a total cash grab.

Getting a white brat and a New Glarus Stone Soup golden ale. Tastes way more like a Hefe-Weizen than a golden ale. Very good

Karben4 Fantasy Factory. Somebody told me they're making the best beer in Madison atm. Solid ipa, definitely bitter. A little grapefruit too.
