Surprise surprise, I found a bar in Rome.

Spezial Rauch Lager. Fine and quaffable smoked beer. Not way too smoky like so many offerings that I know.

Vento Forte Juicy. This is a damn fine American IPA brewed in Rome. Hoppy and bitter but enough citrus to keep it drinkable for people need it.

Why are you drinking craft beer in Rome? You should be doing like the Romans do: slurping down red wine, punctuating your sentences with crotch grabs, and leering shamelessly at attractive women.

Both are very good beers. I agree that Xocoveza came out really well.

So far tonight:
Deschutes Hop Trip Pale Ale. Good as usual.
Founders Harvest Ale. I think that I enjoy it more than last year. It will be interesting to try it next to Born Yesterday sometime next week after BY makes it here.

I thought it was considerably better this year.

I wouldn't even allow myself to get anything to drink until yesterday, and I was about 3 blocks away from one of, if not the best beer bar in Rome after seeing a friend. Plus they gave Cantillon, which I can't get back in Texas.

Cantillon Lambic.

New craft beer business brewing at Southend | Business | postandcourier.com

So I know there is a lot of Lagunitas drank by you guys. This article is from June but it is now open and operating here in Charleston. I am planning on going tomorrow to check it out. It's kind of a big deal here and many are excited that Southend is being redeveloped. They are also helping local brewers get their own products out as well. Lagunitas seems like a great choice to take over for Southend which has operated for 20+ Years here.

In Rome? Serious?

Red Rock Brauhaus Festbier for me.
Nah I was just reading Cack's post. But I did see that Jolly Pumpkin beer you sent me here. It turns out that there's good beer in town. I'm just drinking a cheap red from Veneto now. Not bad, but I couldn't get the original bottle I was looking at from a great little shop due to timing.

I had the Saint Archers Mosaic IPA (IIPA) last night from the can last night and I enjoyed it significantly than from the IPA glass. ACamp, you might like it.

Now Deschutes Hop Trip.

I did the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome today. I need this wine way more than I thought I did.

I had Lagunitas Born Yesterday last night. Amazing. If you like hoppy beers this is a must buy. 2nd best Lagunitas beer (Waldo's Ale is better) that I have had. I had it alongside the Founders Harvest Ale (which is very good) and Born Yesterday kicked its ass.

Today I bought a Sierra Nevada Snow Pack. Drinking the Single Hop Cascade right now (ok) and I am waiting for the temps to get below 90 (it was 95 today) before trying the Maple Scotch Ale and the Coffee Stout.

I can't sleep tonight so my mind drifted to beer. I would love to see a Stone Enjoy By Wet Hop IPA. Now I just need to get them to make it......

I don't think so. If you're interested, try to get a single bottle. I thought it was lacking in flavor.

Founders Backwoods Bastard 2016

Lots of nice sweet malt, slight smoke, big licorice, some vanilla and touches of bourbon and oak. Some dark fruit as well. A hint of coconut? The only real negative is that the hops used for bittering are still a little strong. Really needs about 3+ months for those to fade.

Now the 2015.

Rich malt, licorice, red and black fruits, vanilla, big bourbon, and caramel. Hops are faded.

I really think that it is best between 3 and 6 months.

One of the bars in town is putting on Surly's Darkness at 5 tonight. Guess I know what I'm doing after work.

America's greatest gift to the world: bourbon. Agree or disagree?

I've had a stash of Troeg's Mad Elf in my basement since Chrismas. Waiting until Thanksgiving to pop one open. Can't wait!
