I saw some Enjoy By ___ bombers for $2(!) when I made my beer run earlier, and got really excited because I have yet to see it in my area. As it turns out, they were Enjoy By 12/26 :(

Also, got turned on to a Pale Ale by Rhinegeist tonight called Pure Fury. It was amazing, but mainly because it tasted like a near clone of Alpha King.

I in particular like your choices of Racer 5 and St. Bernardus Abt. 12. Let me know what you think of the Clown Shoes Reindeer Games as I haven't had that one yet.

I can't believe you didn't buy at least 1 of them to see how it tastes after the date, I would like to say that I would have bought 1 but the truth is at that price I would probably have bought 3. For the record I have had 2 past the date, one was still pretty good (about 10 days past) and one was just as good (1-2 days past).

Did your store not have any of the newest release of it?

Lone Star because time is a flat circle.

Agreed.

I just wish it would stop spinning so fast and out of control.

I mean, I mean, I mean ... I'm not at The State Fair doing one of those Spin Art thingies ...

Racer 5 is very close to, if not at, the top of my list of west coast IPAs. Reindeer games is a little malty compared to my ideal, but overall not bad at all. At least worth a try.

I had never had Lagunitas's Pils, but I've been dabbling a bit with Pilsners lately after not having been into them much in the past. I thought this one was pretty good, although I admit to not having a lot to compare it to.

Rhinegeist is a great spot. Awesome brewery to see how much they have grown. Pure fury is really good and truth is 1 of my favorite ipas. Ink is really good too. Betsy away from the blue saison though.

Have it in fridge. Was going to crack it Christmas night .

Looking forward to drinking it . Did you enjoy it .

Sláinte .

I liked it a lot. Quads and Strong Darks are two of my favorite styles. Seems like it would be a good one for aging too (if you're looking at Christmas 2015, that is!).

I thought about it, but it made me nervous that it's overdue by about two months now haha. Maybe I should have just for the experience, though.

And no, I didn't see any of the newest release. I think perhaps they had the December release due to the holidays. However, I just recently started going to this particular store (their selection has grown tremendously in the past few months), so maybe they DID get the new release, and I missed out.

I love hanging out there, and they way they've blown up has been very cool to see. Now they're running their own trucks all over the tristate to deliver cans and draft supplies. There is a SUPER small bar by the university I work at, one of those hole-in-the-wall places that only gets the "regular" crowd and a few students, and even they have Rhinegeist on tap now. Trying to find somewhere with Pure Fury on draft so I can see how much better it is that way. I've had that, Cougar, and Truth. Haven't had Ink as I'm not a huge stout guy, but I may give it a try.

I eagerly await they day that they try to do a brown ale.

Clown Shoes Extremely Angry Beast 12%. Their description of it is "How do you create an Extremely Angry Beast? Mix one part bourbon barrel aged Blaecorn Unidragon, one part bourbon barrel aged Undead Party Crasher, one part rum barrel aged Hammer of The Holy, then add a massive dose of incendiary rage." I picked up the 22oz bomber for $12.

When it is first opened you get a big whiff of vanilla and bourbon.

After it has been poured into the glass
N: Vanilla and Bourbon. Some licorice and cola, with a little chocolate and roasted notes.
P: Vanilla and Bourbon with roasted malt, some cocoa, slight coffee and cola notes. A little caramel as well.
F: Now the roasted malt and roasted coffee beans are taking over, and the vanilla and bourbon have started to fade but are still there with a slight rum flavor (noticeably the buttery notes from rum) and cocoa dust.

Overall a great beer. It falls short of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and Founders KBS but it is still worth trying at least once. Having said that, I feel that it does lack some integration and could benefit from being aged for a while. Now the real question is do I buy another bottle to put down for the next time that my father-in-law visits. I already have Deschutes The Abyss and Epic Big Bad Baptist put away for his next visit.

Edit: As it warms up you get more roasted malt and roasted coffee notes on the palate.

Over Thanksgiving and Christmas, I had both Stoudt's Pilsner and Prima Pils. I liked them both, particularly the Stoudts. I'd suggest giving it a try if you can.

My brother took me to check out the Arizona Distilling Company, which is a micro-distillery in Tempe, last weekend. It involved a tour of the facility, a brief presentation regarding the various processes they employ, and ended with a tasting of all their offerings:
  • I had tried their Copper City Bourbon before, and wasn't impressed with it initially; but the pour I had on-site was excellent (consistency isn't a strong point for small distilleries).
  • Also tried their Desert Durum, a 100% wheat whiskey, which was very interesting (almost like a white wine in its softness), though I doubt I'll reach for one again. Disappointing, since I love wheated bourbon.
  • Tried their moonshine (why do people buy this stuff?), a malt whiskey, and a rye as well. Not a fan of those types, so I won't pass judgment.
  • Their Desert Dry Gin was really good, though. Maybe the best I've ever had. Will likely be my house gin going forward.

All of their offerings are somehow related to Arizona history, which was appealing to me since the Phoenix-area is so dominated by transplants that it often feels like the city has no authentic character of its own.

Went to a new place on Mill called End Game, which was awesome-- a video-game bar that serves craft beer. Their kegs of Three Philosophers and Lil' Sumpin' Wild were tapped (/grumble), but they still had other good options... like Salty Scot. Tasted like salted caramel in a glass (highly recommended), and was enjoyed while destroying my brother and brother-in-law at Super Smash Bros. on an N64. Good times.
