Nice Bog. I like my martinis dirty. about 4-5oz of gin, a touch of vermouth and a big dash of olive brine. Preferred gins are Plymouth, Hendricks or Miller's. If going cheap either boodles or beefeater. Of course shaken and not stirred. Yummy.

I keep meaning to try a Vesper but keep putting it off. However, I would recommend using Hendrick's as the gin, because of the smoother, more mellow flavor. Gins like Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire will have too much gin "bite" (which is fine on its own) and will overwhelm the other flavors, particularly the vodka. My $.02

So I'll be moving back out to San Antonio in just over 2 weeks and will be reunited with my cheap beer of choice:

I invented a new drink for Jan 7: I call it the Crimson Tide.

2 shots vodka
1 dash SEC tears (to taste)
6 oz. bloody mary mix
combine in tall glass over ice
garnish with celery and serve with a national championship.
Repeat annually.

Do you go out to a bar for all your different whiskeys or do you have a HUGE selection behind your bar?

I own all of these whiskies. I have about 70+ bottles right now, down from my high of 150ish.

Sorry I couldn't quote your post as it kept giving me an error message.

I have a buddy like you... He stores everything and has gone through pleanty... what he does, which I think is funny, he'll take the old empty bottles of the prem. stuff and fill it with generic knock off brands and serve that to people who clearly just come over for a free drink... lol

Redlands is a very yuppie town... people try to pretend to know their stuff and all sophisticated... they cruise by because they know us through so and so and they know that my man has a fully stocked bar... cool man, here's your Prestige in a cool bottle.... funny thing is they always act all connoisseur on it.

That's f*cking brilliant. I know some blowhards like that as well. I'm totally going to fill some of my high end empties with Kirkland brand stuff.

You live in Redlands? My wife recently took a job at Loma Linda University Hospital so we are renting in Yucaipa until we figure out where to buy a home.

Hey the Kirkland Signature Bourbon is pretty solid so don't use that, drink it.

I have lived in Redlands or Apple Valley for years... I currently work and stay in AV but everyone else is still in Redlands... my buddy (the one I'm talking about) owns Wilson's Barber Shop on Orange... it's a real throwback to pre 60's style shops.

No one has bar hopped Redlands like...
