Found myself a twist cap Weller Antique 107. Delivery included, only $100. Can't wait to dive into this. It's probably my favorite bourbon.

What are your go-to barrel strength bourbons for value?

I'd say Elijah Craigs BP great, though hard to find. Bulleit has a very affordable and good BP. My favorite I have had has been a Blantons 120 proof that was only sold in the UK. I got a bottle from a raffle group and its literally the smoothest thing I have ever drank at that proof.

Ultimately though all the really good BPs are relatively hard to find or on allocation. I cant get any of the ones I would like to where I live.

I should say my preferred bourbon pallet is in the 90-100 proof range though so BPs are always a bit harsh to me.

10 years ago I could find Weller 12y at Total Wine for $25/ bottle any time. Now it's on allocation.

Isn't that crazy. Buffalo Trace Bourbon is on the same trajectory it seems. I've been told by multiple enthusiasts to buy it up now before the price changes.

Total Wine is my go-to. I rarely find a place that has lower prices. Costco sometimes.

I tried the Elijah Craig BP the other day. I really liked it. I enjoy the EC small batch, Woodford, Buffalo Trace, and Four Roses small batch for my daily drinkers. The barrel proofs were hit or miss with me. I'm a big scotch drinker so when I got into the higher proof bourbons, the heat was almost too much for me. I enjoyed it in the moment. But it caused me to really enjoy my 90 proofs more. They just went down a bit easier for a casual glass in the evening.

Making a class six and total wine run today with my brother in law,… we had some Balvenie Caribbean Cask and Dalmore 12 year the other night and looking to expand it. I’m also hoping the class six carries some west coast beers I can’t get here. We will see

Aberfeldy 12 is fantastic. I'm not a big fan of Belvenie. It gets offered up to guests a lot haha.

All of my go to bourbons have dried up through allocation. I live in a destination place with a fairly refined cuisine and hospitality and tourism economy so all the good liquors go straight to the hotels, restaurants and bars. Us poor schleps cant even sniff a decent bottle anymore. I moved on to discovering scotches which has been fine for me. I'm liking them more and more the more I try.

My best friend was in a secondary market bourbon group and it morphed into several of their group leaders routinely going to distilleries and picking their own barrels and having them bottled and sold within the group. He has a shit ton of bourbons that are allocated bourbons, they just never hit the shelf.

Got a pleasant surprise yesterday. The GM from our Waco office showed up with a cooler and inside were two six packs of Pearl beer. About six years ago when he transferred from Indy to Waco, I had mentioned he needed to send me some Pearl. I hadn't had it in over 35 years. I've made several trips to our Waco and Joshua, TX locations and have never been able to find it. Well, he was having a discussion with a local distributor who happened to mention Pearl. My guy mentions me to him and they take a walk into the warehouse where he finds the only two six packs they have. I have no idea if I'm going to like it or not, but the fact that he remembered our conversation from six years ago is pretty cool.

You live there? If so highly unlikely I've got something you haven't heard of. I haven't lived down there in two years either. If you just casually visit area let me know and I'll message ya a list of places

He's a south-sider, Perry Township.

I’ve been looking to get Buffalo Trace for my dad for about a year and haven’t been able to find it yet

That's very cool, but I'll let you know now that Pearl got bought and "craftified" by another brewery in Texas. Still solid and inoffensive.

What do y'all spike your nog with?

My ancient family recipe calls for a full bottle of Jameson and a jigger of spiced rum. Gotta mix it in a big jar, and it still packs a punch. Very smooth though.

I highly recommend Jeff Morgenthaler of Clyde Commons' egg nog recipe for homemade. You make it in a blender, and its very easy to batch ahead and is able to be aged (never done it, just enjoy knowing its basically expiration proof).

The below link is to the more traditional brandy/rum mix, but there's also a link within that page for a really awesome tequila/sherry version if that's more up your alley:

My buddy from Steds brought Koval Single Barrel. I thought it was pretty good, a bit sweet. I don’t mind that
