It appears all the bellyaching was an overreaction to Notre Dame getting held in submission by a team that was far and away the best in college football this year, period.

Do we now need to analyze how Nick Saban and his AD should proceed?

Do we need to figure out if Nick Saban is toast when opposing coaches have a month to prepare?

Do we need to figure out if Alabama's modus operandi needs to shift, so they can get more fringe players in and take a load off of their guys so they can compete with the Clemsons of the world?

Seriously though, last night felt like pretty good vindication for ND, and most of the media seem to recognize that. ND will go into next year top 10, maybe top 5, and they'll get another shot at the new kings of college football if they take care of business.

I kind of wish I watched the game now, because I thought they were gonna get smoked or at least lose a close one. Now I actually feel good about getting jail sexed, mostly because the majority of their points against us came before the half when Love went out. What a horrible time to have Love, Gilman, and Okwara all get banged up for a quarter! Wish we had another shot at them under better circumstances. We probably still lose, but at least it would/could have been a better game without the injuries.

Alabama had no ability to cover Clemson's receivers either. I think one literally broke his ankle trying to cover Ross.

that's what happens when you go against a team that is all jacked up on steroids and PED.

I still think there may be something to Notre Dame being responsible for Appeasement not working out as planned.

it seemed like Bama had a bunch of tall, rangy CB's but nobody who could cover well the slots or routes where the QB had time to let the play develop. As if they were all recruited to cover 6'6" WR's or something. Bama lost 6 DB's from last year's team too, kinda crazy when you think about it

Wake me up and Saban and Dabo retire. We have no business being on the field with either of those teams. Clemson v. Alabama for the next 2 or 3 years.

I apologize if I upset you and some other posters with some of my threads. I probably did overrract to a degree. To be fair:

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a plan of action as AD and head coach. We all have to in our own daily lives at work after a rough quarter or campaign. The post I referenced was from a Rivals poster who is by far the most reasonable, realistic posters over there who understands what ND is all about.

The second thread was not just about the Clemson game. It was about being 0-8 and uncompetitive in our last 8 major bowl games. We have not won one since 1994. You don't think that's a problem? And I guarantee you Saban is forming a plan of action after that performance

And the third thread was referencing the fact that ND makes it tougher on their football players than even Stanford does. Again, that might be a problem and unrealistic. And when we keep telling the world that only we do it the right way, it only comes off as ND snobbery.

Having said all that, we are all ND fans and football is simply big business entertainment. Everything you said could have been sent to me via a PM. I think creating a thread attacking me is a little over the top but again, it's just a football message board. Have a good day :)

You're right, and I apologize.

Your threads agitated me, and drew my ire after last night because they were the clearest examples of overreaction after a frustrating game, and I thought last night's game was a good example of how quick we are to get too low (and too high, when things look good).

My intent truly was to show that ND's performance against Clemson was more about Clemson's dominance than it was ND's shortfalls. I thought it was clear during the game that ND handled themselves well, even if the final score didn't reflect it... I thought Lea and Long both had good plans for handling Clemson's superior talent, and the first quarter reflected that. But then Julian Love got hurt, Book got rattled, and everything went to hell.

ND really WAS well prepared for Clemson. They had a perfect plan for dealing with Lawrence and the Clemson DL, which speaks well to BK and the staff. It wasn't a repeat of the Bama game, where the staff obviously had failed to properly prepare the program, and it wasn't a repeat of Ohio State, where we looked woefully undermanned.

I was frustrated to read so much second-guessing about the team and the program, when the evidence shows a program that is on the cusp of sustaining great success even though the Cotton Bowl's final score didn't seem to reflect that.

Again, my apologies.

Negative because ND still needs to account for why we are 0-8 with a combined of average 24 points loss to top teams in New Year's/BCS Bowls. Additionally ND needs to figure out why we can't land 5-star recruits anymore like we used to.

Those are two valid questions that ND Football Program and fans need to be discussing to figure out how to move ahead competitively.

Because the dining hall still cooks with wooden spoons????

Wooden spoons don't quickly heat to scalding temperatures, chemically react with acidic foods, or scratch pots and bowls, as their metal counterparts do. They don't melt or leach chemicals or strange tastes into hot foods as plastic does. A wooden spoon can be used to stir any dish in any type of vessel. -google

aka 5 star recruits don't know any better.

Ain't that the truth. This needs to be addressed and changed!

And you're correct. The program has made amazing strides lately.

Do the teams that will do anything to win take advantage of the NCAA rules around when the players can practice?
Like, do they just practice more through the week and through the off season like a pro team?

I think the most logical course of action moving forward is to pay off recruits and provide free steroids to the players. Kinda italics.

They have a lot more time to practice or workout or party or do anything but that school thang.

When ND figures out the second part of your question (lack of five stars and high four stars), the first part of your question goes away. This year was as good as it gets and we need to enjoy it when it happens every four or five years. Its 'Jimmys and Joes' that we will need.
