Lots of words, nothing said. No one on this board knows Al Golden's true desires for him and his family.

Weird comment to try to pick a fight with.
By this I can only assume that you’re saying that you supply low hanging fruit all the time and you’re wondering why I picked this one?
Using your logic, approximately 125 teams should make a run at Golden to be their DC. It’s just not going to happen at 1.5-2M.

Someone got under his skin Saturday night! “Everybody wants to be in these two 12.5 shoes right here,' said Williams referring to himself. “I’m not worried about some kid running out on the field that doesn’t have anything really associated to Notre Dame other than possibly their family going there or him going there himself. Got a lot of guys over here that I’ve got to lead, so some opinion of a sheep, lions don’t worry about that stuff. Keep moving on, keep fighting. Fight on.” He forgot to add "and have these cool painted nails like mine!" :ROFLMAO:

Wow way to go full Tywin Lannister with the lion/sheep reference, lol.

On a different note, his talent is undeniable but that hubris is a red flag for NFL flameout.

JJ Mcarthy now the favorite to win the heisman. Would rather it be USC/Williams tbh. I hate Michigan far more than any of our "rivals". Among USC, Stanford and Navy we have the weakest rivalries of any major program.

Mo money. Mo problems.

Great sport. Even with college play for pay, due to contracts well above 40 million a year in NFL…business decisions. Only a matter of time for dominos to fall from sitting bowls, sitting for 4 game transfer, sitting when out of title hunt, and sitting regular season games earlier and earlier for draft prospects. Respect my decision.

I mean, we've seen guys shut it down early b/c of some minor nagging injury too, when they might have played had the games been more important. But, then, that was a safety, not the most recognizable player in college football, who also happens to be in a ton of ads.
I do wonder a bit if the NIL deals might keep him playing. Wendy's isn't paying Caleb to sit on the bench.

He’s not wrong.

One wrong tackle and he’ll lose untold amounts of money in endorsements, etc. As for USC, you have Malachai Nelson and can get a head start on his playing time experience. You can even start with Miller Moss and slowly insert Nelson if you wish.
I tend to agree. He is pretty much guaranteed a NFL early draft pick. The only risk is if he quits now what is that pick and how much money is he leaving on the table or if he keeps playing it could slip more.

I don’t think I could blame anyone for taking the money. It’s perfectly acceptable in every other business realm except CFB for some reason.

Total agreement. He is what he is at this point. He’s got games against Washington, Oregon, and UCLA coming up. I suppose you could argue those games can mean the difference between going #1 if he does well and sliding if he does poorly.

I can see both sides of the argument. He went to USC with Riley for business decisions so it’s about what his camp thinks is the correct business decision here on out.

He could get a six month head start on the combine and film breakdown and such as well. I’m sure there are trainers out there salivating at the chance to work with him as well.

I really don’t care if he plays or sits. Stl01 has a good point about his NIL. Does it require him to play? His draft stock isn’t changing at this point. The NFL drafts on potential more than anything.

Glad to see Troy go down again.

If USC loses those games, and beats Cal, Riley will be 7-7 in his last 14. Unless his plans are to definitely leave too, I’m not sure that’s great.

Just cause you can doesn't mean you should. ND has less to play for than USC (Independence is ass).

If Alt and JJP said Monday they're sitting out rest of year. Doubt ppl would be "well yeah that makes sense".

Riley went on and on about how they're still in good position to win the conference even after the loss to Utah. It'd be funny if Williams quit on the team

USC gonna end up with 4-5 losses regardless
Yeah, I can definitely see that happening. They’ve gone from undefeated top 10 to an afterthought. It’ll be interesting to see how the team reacts if/when Caleb calls it a season. I suspect they won’t be too deliberate about it and go w/ a nagging hamstring or something. But if it’s more deliberate and he simply says “I’m shutting it down for the draft” (which I’m not arguing is a bad thing for him), then it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the team reacts...especially all the transfers.

Another element to consider is if he shuts it down, he and his father lose the leverage they have been building to try to manipulate what team he goes to in the draft.

Except Alt and JJP aren’t in the #1 pick conversation nor do they have the kind of endorsement deals that Caleb has.

But they'll get drafted as is. Draft position is all relative to the player. People act like the #1 picks should protect themselves, but you dont think the player that has a shot at round 3 but also risk of dropping to round 5 has as much on the line, relative to their future.

I think his on-field performance has already done that

I think this is a fair take. Me personally, I’ll never get upset at any player for making a business decision. So much factors in to it that it’s a personal decision and I can’t question someone making a call that they think is best for them and their family.

So if Alt and JJB decide to sit out for business, then so be it. I’d wish them well.

It’s a really unpopular take, but not a terrible one for specifically this kid.

He’s a mercenary playing for a mercenary coach at a mercenary program. He’s always come off as a me-first kid with me-first decision makers around him, so why would doing this be out of character? We know who Caleb Williams is, and I’m sure the NFL does too.

Someone will roll the dice on him at #1 if he never plays another snap.

Adults enabling kids from 1,000 miles away for nothing more than social clout are some of the worst people alive.
