He went 5-7 in the Big 12 with Patrick fucking Mahomes as his QB. And he was too stupid to give Baker Mayfield a scholarship.

...and now he's an NFL head coach?

There has never been a more clear example of the NFL being a pitiful copycat league. Sean McVay is a wizard with a supercomputer for a football brain, so the rest of the league is following suit in trying to find a guy who can internalize every offensive snap and learn from it.

It’s dumb, but it can also work out if the organization has a GM that can lead a good draft and hire a quality DC.

Kingsbury is a good offensive mind, but he wasn’t good as a program leader in CFB. If he can bypass some of the hard stuff about working with kids and find a group of adults to commit to his gameplana and playcalls, AND if he has a good defense that’s left under total control of someone else, it might be okay.

That’s kind of why I think BK would actually be a quality NFL HC... he can draw up a play sheet better than almost anyone else in CFB. Give him a decent QB that can execute what he wants, and things would be good offensively. The reason that hasn’t translated consistently to ND is because of all the stuff that is essentially out of his control, which is a lot of stuff he wouldn’t have to worry about with professional athletes.

At this rate, Helton won’t have any staff left by the end of the week.

This isn’t all good news..... I hope they do just well enough to hang onto Helton. He’s been pretty mediocre there, which makes me happy. They haven’t had the success they probably should with the talent they bring in each year. Hopefully they have a few more bad years and can go back to being pre-Carroll good. I’d hate to deal with them getting an UM type coach to get them ramped up again.

We've seen this over and over throughout the years, whether it be the NFL, NCAA, NBA or MLB.

I will tune in to watch the condoms get beaten like a rented mule in this game.

"It’s the way the 2019 National Championship Game played on Monday night seemed only to highlight just how far away USC is from competing in such a contest. The worst part of watching Nick Saban’s Alabama be crushed by Clemson, 44-16, was the inescapable knowledge that such a Crimson Tide team could still swat the Trojans aside like a fly. And they will have the opportunity to do just that in 2020 if things don’t change quickly for USC."

Steve Alford?

Why don't you list all the other coaches who have gone to Iowa City and died quick deaths? It's the most overrated BB job in the country. The last B1G title they won was when Bird & Magic met in the NC game... and that was the only title that Lute won there and he shared it.

During the early national signing period in December, P.J. Fleck hinted that his Gophers team could be active in college football’s free-agent market, with the possibility of adding transfers to the program. On Sunday, Fleck and the Gophers did just that.

Randal Grimes, a wide receiver for Southern California, announced that he is transferring to Minnesota. “Sworn in. Can’t wait to get this train rolling. @GopherFootball,’’ Grimes tweeted.

A 6-4, 205-pounder out of Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas, Grimes had two receptions for 17 yards for USC as a freshman in 2017 before being limited late in the season because of a broken hand suffered in practice. He played in three games in 2018 and did not catch a pass before announcing his intentions to transfer in December.

Grimes was a three-star recruit and the nation’s No. 23-ranked athlete in the recruiting Class of 2017, according to the 247Sports.com composite of major national recruiting services. He played quarterback, receiver and free safety in high school, leading Desert Pines to the Nevada Class 3A state championship in 2016. Grimes had scholarship offers from 10 schools, including Nebraska, Brigham Young, California, Oregon State, Tennessee, Utah and Washington State.

Grimes, who visited Minnesota’s campus this weekend, will be eligible to play for the Gophers in 2020 after sitting out this season as a transfer and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Saw this on r/cfb and nearly spit my coffee

His older brother, Cayleb, started his college career at Texas but was forced to transfer after he broke the jaw of a tennis player over a girl. He then went to Arizona and even made it to the NFL. He was subsequently arrested for theft and domestic violence. He was also suspended by the NFL for performance enhancers.

Cayleb is the more mature and level headed brother.

I would appreciate any additions or input as I catch up on the USC dismissals/arrests, etc. So, I have...

Joseph Lewis - served six months out of his year sentence for felony domestic violence (x 2)
Levi Jones was dismissed for misdemeanor pubic intoxication
Bubba Bolden dismissed for same.
Jack Jones, days after confirming he was leaving USC for Community college, was arrested on two counts of commerical felony burglary.

In 2016-17, the only dismissals I have is Osa Masina on alleged sexual rape and sodomy of a woman passed out after doing drugs and alcohol at Don Hill's apartment, who also was dismissed. Masina accepted a plea deal for a year in jail vs three years in prison.

Did I miss anyone? I'm not going back to the ones in 2013-14.

Also, after the first Signing Period and before any further attrition, I have USC at sixty scholarship players, twenty signees and three commits who have not signed. That figure does include two walkons given scholarships for '18 would be renewed.

Additionally...

Wilmore is rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports. The Lawndale (Calif.) product’s decommitment comes days after he received a scholarship offer from UCLA.

The fans may not have liked him like ND didn't like Longo. But apparently he's a decent S&C if an NFL team is going after him. No one was chomping at the bit to get Longo.

Would I be correct in observing that California has become a less fertile recruiting area for USC, especially with regards to top recruits from Mater Dei, Oaks Christian, St John Bosco, DeLaSalle, etc?

A couple of thoughts regarding USC. Their player development under Clay Helton has been awful and borderline criminal at most positions. They have unlimited talent at their disposal and yet fail to produce wins against an otherwise average PAC-12. Johnny Nansen is an elite recruiter as the linebacker coach and has some incredible talent at linebacker. Tee Martin was probably their best offensive recruiter but should never have been the OC and is now the WR coach for Tennessee. A lot of their coaches weren’t great developers of talent in my opinion and I don’t think they really coached them all that hard because they have a lot of primadonnas with bad attitudes and not enough toughness. The talent will always show up at USC because of their tradition, where they are, and their boosters, but they need to get coaches that can coach.

Starts at the top. Helton is an example of the Peter Principle. Suspect he doesn't make it thru 2019
