I assumed holding a press conference would be to stay you are leaving rather then staying. For most that stay, they just simply announce it rather then via press conference. Typically, and I could be wrong, press conferences are held when those leave.

Leinart held one to say he was staying
Sanchez held one to say he was going

McDonald held one yesterday saying he was staying...

I think he is staying.

I see your points but I still want to watch ND beat Barkley and Denard... Mostly because I know this team can.

I mean don't get me wrong I would like to see that as well, but I would rather us win and I feel that we have a better chance to win if he's gone.
Side note-I think DR is gonna stay so we get a chance against him next year.

I'll take a pass at playing Barkley next year with our young secondary. Seems like an overwhelming match up problem for us. No thanks!

What sucks is that he was as good as gone.... until they beat ND and beat Oregon. Then the students/Haden/Kiffin started working on him... and the media started saying USC would be a "national title contender" next year... and I think ultimately it will be the fact that he never got to play in a big bowl game that will have him coming back.

Any recruit who buys into anything Kiffin says either has no intuitive people skills or is on par with Kiffin in terms of being a slimey, "me first, me only" type.

We'll see how USC does when the guys recruited and coached primarily by Carrol and his staff are gone.

If he comes back, they will be a NTC contender next year. That's if they stay healthy.

The NFL draft is as much about perception as stats/physical tools. While Barkley already has the attention of NFL teams, he is hardly discussed by the national media at least as compared to Luck or RG3. I think holding a press conference is his way of saying, here I am, I'm ready to be drafted in the top 10.

He's coming back, but University of Spoiled Children players would have a press conference to announce they are doing nothing.

Looking at USC's recruiting class of 2011 and 2012, they are really thin on the o-line. Their "athletic" offensive players wont do $hit if they dont have anyone to block for them.

I can't decide if this would be a good thing or a bad thing to show prospective USC recruits (skip the beginning)

Someone needs to get a hold of LSUfreek and have him make a gif of that with Kiffie's head on Stevie Nicks body....

Epic potential

Alright, here's the latest with their schollies:

If everything shakes out the way they think it will, they have 63 players on scholly (that includes the presumed exits of TJ Bryant and Armond Armstead). They just signed 5 EE's (one was signed last year and grayshirted, so he counts agianst last year's class, so technically he's not an EE), bringing them to 68 players. They have 7 players committed, bringing them to exactly 75 scholarship players if all those guys sign.

Again, they are already at 75 players TODAY. Kiffy wants to sign 15 guys. That leaves him 8 players he can sign, meaning he will have to purge 8 guys from his roster. That's 8 student athletes he will be forcing, errrrrrrrrrr, asking to leave. Can't wait to see how this all shakes out...

If you're forcing 8 guys out, I think somebody should step in and do something. They just need guys to fight the system. I mean what gives Kiffin the right to pull a scholarship? I'd imagine you'd be safe as long as your academics were in shape.

You do realize that Schollies are a 1 year proposition corrct? No one is guaranteed 4 years, it's just that the ethical schools tend to handle them as such. Not so at U$C (or most schools in the $EC for that matter).

Actually at USC they were really good at as far as scholarships. I think them pulling scholarships is pretty much a slap in the face the NCAA for their crappy rule they made.

BTW: Brice Butler is transferring since he is set to graduate, just a matter of time.

So here is the USC scholarship status: They have 62 scholarship players including transfers and players leaving. 5 EE and 8 Fall players can come in. Look for them to have a class of around 15-17 new players coming in which leaves them with 3-5 EE next year along with the 15 scholarships a year.

Ummmm, read post #78, just above you. That is the exact scholarship math coming straight from USC's guys.

Edit: I knew there was something off about this guy. He always argues against me on USC stuff, but I never bothered looking into it. And now I see that he is the same poster who has been banned several times already, including under the name Reggae Bush. Dude has name different names on this site. C-ya troll...

Good point. They technically are not 4 year guarantees. I just consider them as such so long as the player is holding his end of the bargain. The fact that USC is yanking schollies should keep studs away, but it doesn't. :/

The studs probably aren't that concerned, and you know that Kiffy is telling them what they want to hear. ND certainly does view them differntly than U$C. Do you think Jake Golic or Luke Massa would still have a schollie out there?

I love when people use an anecdote to describe what the issue is. A lot of people say no JUCOs isn't a big deal, 4 year schollies isn't a big deal, academic standards isn't a big deal, etc. but when you give concrete examples it shows why ND doing things the "right way" hurts us versus teams that do things "by the book."

If ND was USC you would've seen Taylor McNamara recruited in this class and Jake Golic "done away with." You would've seen Luke Massa off the team as soon as it was evident he wouldn't be a contributor at QB and probably would've offered Jordan Westerkamp earlier and have him committed.

If we compromised academic standards to USC's level we would've had Carson Palmer many years ago instead of them... and more recently we wouldn't have passed on Byron Marshall who is now headed to Oregon.

And then when you watch Auburn bring in Nick Fairley and Cam Newton as JUCOs... and watch USC bring in a 5:s: safety in this class as a JUCO as well as a bunch of JUCOs last year... and watch Michigan State every year build a team almost strictly from the JUCO ranks... you can't act like that doesn't hurt us. JUCOs allow you to get players after they've developed and not use a schollie on them while they're still in their growing phase OR fill holes on your roster like the NFL free agent wire.

Basically, add all these up and USC after sanctions is playing with about the same "barriers" to a good team as Notre Dame does every year.

It astounds me some when people speak of Souther Cal's probation and its effect on recruiting.....I remember listening to Pat Haden in the booth during the game this season while he was talking about doing "things" the right way.....I couldn't help but vomit a little in my mouth. Kiffin is a cut-throat and he'll get rid of kids who aren't progressing or going to contribute.
