Just want to put into perspective that we had both "the AP National Player of the Week" and "the Paul Hornung Award National Player of the Week" playing running back for us on Saturday.

And they are not the same running back.

Just imagine what Love would have done were he not also battling the rain,…………

(Just a few more of these then I’ll let it go,… promise)

I'd have Price/Love returning punts (at least have them getting ready for that for the finals).
Faison is great but both these two would have several TD returns this season. That isnt important now against lesser teams we can just score most possessions, but it may not be so easy against the big dogs like OSU/Bama/Georgia Tech

One of these things is not like the other... But agreed.

Musings from Arledge: USC get bullied again in South Bend

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.
Excellent hate read.
This article reaffirms my leeriness towards hiring ideologue coaches married to to a philosophy or scheme. A lot of these “innovative” systems came about at lesser programs that needed them.

I was worried BK was one of them when we hired him and I remember being relieved when he said he ran an uptempo style offense out of necessity before but wouldn’t need to at ND. Now, not to say everything went smoothly with BK here but I agree with the premise.

Lincoln is so married to his offensive system he seemingly doesn’t care at all what the other half of the ball does. He’s not a real HC, he’s an offensive coordinator in charge of a football team. It’s the same reason I don’t like HCs that call plays, the HC is the CEO and shouldn’t be tied down like that.

Yeah outside of those 2 plays, he really was fine. We just didnt push the ball down the field due to the rain / unstoppable run game so his stats look shitty.
Faison dropping that 3rd down pass inside the 10 for a first down was a bummer. Missed out on 7 points there. Pass was good enough. Hit him in both hands. Won’t pick on Faison since he played well.

So we can add Charlie to that list who was less of a head coach than Lincoln.

I think I'd hire a defensive guy for the most part. I don't think most of these hip, offensive guys can create a culture of physical football, which a place like Notre Dame needs.

I feel the same way. I want to RTDB and I want violence from my defense. I simply couldn't stomach a team built like USC. I crashed out hard after aTm because I thought we were going to have to play that way this season.

Agreed. Defense wins championships. A finesse team like Oregon or USC today can win a lot of games, but they almost always come up short when the chips are on the table at the end of the season. USC lost what defense they had when Cheaty Petey left, they haven't been the same since. Alabama, Georgia, OSU, Michigan (To some extent despite the cheating), Clemson, all of them won with defense first and usually at least a physical offense or maybe even an outstanding offense, but the defense was there.

Would be nice to see Carr under center occasionally in a two back set whether I formation or split backfield. I would even mind seeing the full house backfield. Want to run the ball all day.

I think most of what could be said about the USC game has already.

Can I just gripe about how USC ALWAYS brings their band to this game. Yet, when was the last time ND brought their band to LA?

Seriously, I'm getting kinda tired of seeing other programs consistently bring their bands on away games no problem.

Meanwhile, when was the last time ND's band traveled for a legitimate away game? There's just no excuse at this point.

They didn't travel for a SINGLE away game last year. And no, Yankee Stadium doesn't count. That's a placeholder for a home game. They could've easily made the trip to Purdue, and didn't.

I just can't fathom why ND's band is so reluctant to go anywhere.

USC's band is the worst (Outside of maybe Stanford). I've already beat that drum in the last week, so I won't go back to it.

I would like to see our band do more Away games. I feel like they'd occasionally make trips in the past, but not so much anymore. They put on some great shows, I feel like they're typically as good or better than OSU's who claim to be "The best damn band in the land."

It's not that serious. Football should be fun. Those USC players will say "man I really want to beat ND because their fans are dicks." And maybe they will and then they'll talk their shit. It's fun.

Do you guys not remember all the losses ND has had at home when players from the other team taunt the crowd??? Don't feel too bad for fusc because I assure you, had they won, the players would've done the same thing to the fans. Like previously stated, they were taunting the crowd during the game (after every kickoff).
Who cares?, we don't let their worst player set our standards. And that buffoon in the corner was taunting the other players, coaches, and the female trainers.

With the USC game in particular, we play there on Thanksgiving weekend when most students are gone home. I'm sure that's a factor. I can't remember the band ever going to USC, but we did used to hire a local high school band, which was cool. (do we still?)

Beyond that I'm not sure. When I was a student the band traveled to at least one road game per year, but that was usually Michigan or Sparty. The fact that we rarely seem to play road games that you can drive to anymore probably contributes (also probably puts a damper on students going to road games, which was a blast). Would be cool if they go to Wisconsin next year.

These ratings are brutal for what was an incredible game. I swear USC doesn’t have anywhere near the appeal to casuals as they did during the Carroll years. There’s a reason why they don’t deserve the same cut of the B10 revenue pie as Michigan / OSU

Man less viewers than LSU/Vandy?! Not even close at that.

The issue is ABC plays 3 good SEC games in a row every weekend lately. Having CBS have the 3:30 SEC game broke up what channel the SEC was on. Now it’s just flip on ABC and leave there all day. Top heavy conferences aren’t good for ratings. SEC having teams 5 - 20 is great for ratings.

Agree with this - peacock is like reality tv city.
You guys know an antenna is like $5 and includes NBC right?

In all seriousness, I’ll watch ND games on NBC via my antenna so I’m as close to live as possible. My friends that I text hate me for it because I’m two plays ahead of them.

YouTube TV for the quad box during the non-ND slot is undefeated

These USC guys gotta stop betting with our ND guys
Don't worry about them, something tells me they won't have an opportunity to do so anytime soon anyway....

THE WORST. My first game at ND Stadium was '01 USC, when Boob Davie beat Pete Carroll, and I remember asking my dad "why is that band so annoying?"

If you play Fight On enough to annoy an 8 year old you are doing something wrong...
