Reason why Whitehead is off the list? Thought he had legit interest. I know he was considered an Auburn lean but is there no more interest now?

He wasn't as interested as we originally thought.

We're out of his recent list I believe.

Hmmm thanks for the info. I recently saw a post on a UT site and one of the posters had met Whitehead and said from their conversation he thought ND was the leader. That was about a month or two ago, he even had pics of him and Whitehead.

That would be great. I haven't seen an update on 247 or Rivals on him for at least a few months, and I thought he had fallen off the radar.

Would be good news to hear otherwise

I think no ones heard from him the past few months. Everytime I searched for info on him almost all of it is about a month or two old on every site. Idk if he still has interest anymore but you know Tuitt is going to be in his ear. Would def love to have the kid.

Last interview of his i read said that he had not heard from ND in months. Just seems like the staff has other targets in mind. That can change from here to Feb

Like last year's DE recruitment, the WR and DB recruitment is blowing my mind this year. So many kids are strongly considering ND. Where does the staff draw the line and turn kids away to save room for other positions?

The reason I ask is because based on the updated list, ND has a real shot at adding Wright, Shumate, Thompson, Smith, and Bush to a secondary class that already includes four quality DBs (5 w/ the return of Badger). I know ND won't get all of them, but it seems like the staff is in a great position right now and may have the luxury of being picky. The same goes with WRs (Darboh, Gilmore, Treggs, etc).

Let's say we magically land any combination of Wright/Smith/Shumate and we keep the guys we currently have (I personally think one will defect) but let's assume.

Does Darby then possibly move to WR or RB? Recent rumbling suggest the staff wants 3 RBs but what if Darby could be that slasher type third option. I don't know why but I just invision him running reverses and catching screen passes for long TDs.

I realize that he is a highly rated CB but he plays offensive too right?

I think you're right. If we end up with Shepard, Wright/ Smith (don't think we'll get both), Shumate, Baratti, Prosise, and Badger as our DB class, I could easily see Darby being our all-purpose offensive skill guy-- mostly slot and RB.

This is the beauty of Kelly's recruiting method. We just go out and grab the best skill guys available, and shuffle them around between WR, RB, and DB once the class is complete.

I don't disagree with anything you said; but I also don't think there is any chance Darby ends up as an offense-first guy unless there is a huge need/injuries.

I think he will be a full-time special teamer the moment he steps on campus and also have a number of offensive plays... but I just think he's a defense-first guy. The thing is you absolutely need 3 "starters" at CB... so what would be absolutely freaking ideal would be if you had Tee, Ronald and Geno/Yuri to play a ridiculous nickel and/or rotate to keep guys fresh if Darby is also playing some offense.

I agree with Darby being the first guy to get a look for offense. Prosise could be an odd man out and get switched to add WR depth as well. Although, with the number of WRs that this class could sign, we might not need the depth at that position either. I'd say regardless of what happens, it's a good "problem" for BK to have.

I should have made it clear that I only see that happening if we sign three blue-chip CBs outside of Darby, which-- amazingly-- could happen. We lead for Yuri, we're in Shumate's top 3, and we're in Smith's top 5. I'd like to think landing Yuri would boost our chances for getting Shumate, and given some of Smith's recent comments, we might lead for him too.

Darby has to be the on field with his speed. If Shepard, Wright/ Smith, and Shumate are all end up ahead of him on the depth chart, how does Kelly not move him to offense?

We should know to NEVER rule out anyone until after fall or spring. One never knows who may step up and produce. It's horribly unfair to think Prosise to be the odd man out when we haven't had one pen put ink to paper, much less strap it up and see who wants it at the college level.

This was my point to just to clarify.

Put me on record now tabbing Prosise as the the Ben Councell of 2012. I bet he comes in as a 4-star.

Good point. I agree. I just got ahead of myself. The position battles on defense the next few years will be very exciting.

It's all good brotha. These kids read our boards as well as their parents.

I've learned my words are powerful. I want these young men to know we want them all.

I've had my fair share of miscues: Just read some of my old posts.

I'll have more, but I expect my fellow fans to step-up and check me. ;)

Agree. He seems like a prime example of a guy the staff recognized before the scouting services, considering what we're hearing about kids waiting on offers, others having non-committable offers, etc. If the staff was not absolutely convinced they had something here, they could have slow played it. They certainly aren't desperate for DB commitments at this point, considering what has already happened and what is reasonably likely to happen in the next few months.

I didn't mean "odd man out" in regards to his ability to compete and play defense. I just know he has experience at WR too so he might be the first to get a look, along with Darby, if the situation called for it.

To be fair as well his coach said that he heard Coach Kelly liked him as a WR as well.

Whitehead has academic questions. The staff has cooled on him much like they have Yuri Wright because of qualification issues.
