Watts replaced Henderson as the "dime" LB. Got quite a few snaps. Then played the back safety spot after DJ got hurt. Saw Colzie in there, maybe just one play.

Anyone got the snap counts, which appear to be classified info now on the websites.

17, no?
Missed FG, goaline stand, Estime fumble...
Add 4 for the drive just before half when Pyne under threw a wide open Mayer who would’ve walked down the sideline for a TD. We settled for a FG.

I'm really surprised by how much off coverage UNC defense ran. Like who exactly were they worried about on the ND WR roster?

The rest of the opposing defenses will take note of that and go back to playing tighter man coverage IMO. ND has struggled mightily against aggressive defenses, to see UNC not make note of that was pretty wild lol I guess maybe they think they would somehow be *worse* if they played tighter coverage? Tough to say. If I was a defense that was blowing assignments, I'd run less zone coverage and play tighter man. Literally "run with this guy" middle school football stuff lol

ND should have hung 60+ on these clowns. I figured they'd put up 450ish yards but I didn't think the UNC defense would be this inept against ND.

Side note, Estime running downhill is fun for the whole family. Love it. ND needs to be able to run inside to really fix this offense.

Rees has now called 3 good games, 1 bad game. Marshall was horrific and he was being too smart for his own good, but this team is clearly getting sharper and that, more than anything else in football, is the sign of a good staff IMO. Lots of teams falter and problems snowball, but this team, right now, looks like they are cleaning a lot of things up. BYU will be a good test.

Happy to have been wrong about this game. UNC’s defense is as bad as advertised. I should’ve trusted Rees to exploit said defenses like he always does. Let’s hope it ignites the offense for the rest of the season and keep the W’s coming.

Go Irish!

I wonder if MF & the team would prefer to keep playing vs a bye? They seem to be in a nice rhythm & confidence has to be high as it pertains to execution. Two weeks to prepare for BYU…make the best of it.

Orlovsky does his homework for both teams. Good on him. My favorite part of the broadcast was when they sent it back to the studio and Booger McFarland made some comment about Orlovsky not having swag. Orlovsky replied, “Dude…your name is Booger”.

1) Really good job by Tommy Rees building back Pyne's confidence. He is absolutely not good enough to win us an NC, but he is good enough to continue the Brian Kelly tradition of replacing a high-ceiling dual-threat QB with a low-ceiling game-manager and salvage a season.

2) Hilarious that they will take Chris Tyree out of the game after 2 plays to preserve him from wear and tear, but Estime was literally bent over sucking air and looking to the sideline for relief before his fumble and they wouldn't give him a spell.

3) I get blown assignments and such, but in the fourth quarter, how do you ever let a WR run right past you for a bomb? Seems like that is the really the first and only thing that would be on your mind even if you were confused.

In the replay it looked like Hart was focused on trying to prevent a first down - spying an RB on an underneath route - and let the WR go past him for a touchdown. I assume he thought he had safety help? But, yeah, priorities. It was like 4th and 20.

No, he never moved toward the underneath receiver either. He just stood there.

I was feeling pretty optimistic about this game leading up until that opening drive happened, seeing our lack of QB contain for the fifth consecutive quarter of football going back to Plummer from Cal, and I was thinking "here we go again."

Loved the response from the defense after UNC forced a three and out. Those boys played extremely well in the first half to give the Offense some time to figure it out, which they did. Lot to clean up on that side of the ball, but they played very, very well for stretches of that game. No defense is shutting down an attack like that for 4 full quarters. Rylie Mills, what a game from him.

They need to keep finding ways to get Styles the football. He's got such a promising future and can be a consistent perimeter threat that this offense so desperately needs as teams continue to try and take away Mayer the best they can.

I know UNC's defense is extremely, extremely bad, but that's what a good offense should do against such poor competition. Our OL was paving the way and their LBs/DBs wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with Audric down the stretch. The fumble was unfortunate, but he was an absolute dawg leading up to that point. Thought Tommy did a great job of mixing up the play calling, setting up some nice complementary plays that are going to give our future opponents a lot to worry about while scouting us.

I really like Brandon Joseph in the punt return game. I don't think he's athletic enough to take one to the house, but he is pretty savvy back there making the first guy or two miss and giving us plus field position. He's that sense of reliability we've come to know, but he's not going to just fair catch and take the ball wherever the other team's punter dictates.

TL;DR, that felt good as hell on Saturday, all in all. Go Irish!

While he may not have moved forward toward the underneath receiver, that’s definitely where his attention went to. U would think that would be an error on his part because of the situation, but it’s clearly what was going through his head at the time.

Yeah, Hart stood there watching the underneath guy. I assume had the QB thrown it underneath he would have come up and made a tackle well before the first down marker. Instead the QB threw it to the guy running past him.

If I could have one player off each side of the ball from UNC it would be Drake Maye from offense & Travis Shaw from their defense.

Shaw is a big reason that ND was 3/11 in short yardage “power” situations. He was immovable & usually those plays ended up w/ the ND guard in the backfield.

It won’t hold up but it’s crazy to think that a RS freshman QB who has only played four games is on pace for 64 TDs & 4 Ints in his first season. He put up better numbers w/o a run game than CJ Stroud could w/ a run game & the best WR room in the country. It’s debatable as to whether or not Drake Maye faces a better offense than ND the rest of the year. They still have a good chance at the Coastal despite ND putting a butt whooping on them.

According to PFF, ND pressured Drake Maye on 46% of his drop backs. And he still threw for 301 yards and 5 TDs. Who's ready to start the slush fund to get him to South Bend? No italics.
he is a legacy. I doubt he leaves UNC as long as Mac Brown is there.

He was incredible. I guess there's hope that Mack Brown decides to hang it up and the coaching staff comes apart.

May was good, but it was boom or bust. Our defense gave up a handful of very big plays.

His dad, Mark; was QB there. He has one brother that played on UNC’s last basketball NC team & another that won a natty in baseball at UF.

Put some balls right on the money in some tight windows. And he is a Freshman.
