When I was younger, I firmly believed in Aliens and Big Foot, but as I've grown older, I find myself closer to the fence. I still think there's something there, but always wonder. After all these years, why neither has been found? We always assume the aliens are superior. If true, why haven't they just dropped in instead of running whenever there is a sighting?
I used to believe as well. And there are some really bizarre sightings that just can't be explained.

UFO researchers and even the usually antagonistic SETI researchers (not being fools) have gamed the hypothesis of non-overt visitation for years. There are a half dozen or so scenarios for not "landing on the White House lawn" so to speak. The problem with casual commentators is that people continue to make the mistake of thinking that everyone should be thinking like them with their assumptions. Trying to apply personal streetcorner thinking to Alien Minds is even more of an indefensible stretch as any sort of conclusive way of guessing about things for which we are WAY underpowered as far as inside information.

Do you think it's inevitable that if they visitied earth, they're mentallu superior to us? I think it's likely but not imminent. What if they've been around longer and took longer to get to the tech to visit... and/or they have access to some raw material/element we simply don't know exists, and flying inter stellar is easy peasy to them.

Mentally superior? That takes some definition. They'd obviously be widely TECHNICALLY superior. Including their AI tech.
On the mentally superior business, it's a true conundrum as to whether the average person in a first world society is mentally superior to a person in a hunter gatherer society. When I look at the behaviors/values/lifestyles of many of my fellow citizens I would not like to assert too much as far as mental superiority. I DO thank the astonishing productivity of our essential systems which allow such people to thrive in spite of themselves.

Bobby Mac. I know the spot your talking about. I suspect what you were seeing was aircraft coming into midway. The images can get really distorted by the intense heat coming off the steel mills when the blast furnaces are doing a pour. As the heat drifts over Lake Michigan it is cooled and distorts images behind it. Further down near Porter beach you can watch the lights in Chicago dance

You make a valid point on basing our thoughts on what we know, but does it not still beg the question of why these are always non-overt visits? Obviously the White House landing has been promoted by Hollywood over the years but that makes for an exciting story (aliens vs. the good guys). Why not land in London or Moscow? I think most believe they are mentally superior to us due to the fact that they are coming from a place so far away that we haven't been able to identify where that place is. That along with the assumption that it would take superior technology and AI to get here. Superior space craft that they can't be caught or clearly identified beyond the shape/size of the craft. That's where I get hung up.

Thee Bigfoot - Growing up, my home town had three different sightings of "something big that walked upright." For awhile, most people chalked it up to the town drunk just telling a story. But after someone else saw a very similar object on two separate occasions, people started taking it seriously. To my knowledge, nothing ever came of the sightings. It's kind of an inside joke at this point. I do know that 1) the details of the initial sighting haven't changed a bit in all the times I've heard him tell it and 2) person two refuses to go into the woods to this day (a large, grown ass man who loves hunting). Neither man admits to believing it was Thee Bigfoot. They just shrug and say, "I saw what I saw and I don't know what it was."

GHOSTS! - I've probably told some of my stories on this site before, but the gist is that my childhood best friend's house was amazingly haunted. In our younger years, his parents would just poo poo our every encounter. Until one day, the encounters became so prevalent that they couldn't be ignored. Both of his parents have since admitted to witnessing crazy things in that house (in which they still live). They've also apologized for trying to convince us kids it was "just your imagination." The previous owner of this house is also currently on record of moving from the house because he couldn't handle it anymore.

To say that paranormal subjects are fascinating to me is a massive understatement. I could spend countless hours reading everyone's personal stories. I also thoroughly enjoy the research that's gone on - RDU, thanks for the link to that interview, I'll give it a listen.

The thread search tells me that you only have four posts in this thread, so I demand that you share some stories of that haunted house.

This might be my favorite post in the last 6 months. Can admin find a way to mark posts for POTY so we can review them at the end of the year? I don't know if this will win but it'd be worth re-reading in 10 months. We could set up march madness brackets for voting, would add some intrigue and maybe even help people elevate their game.

My wife's family lives in a couple antebellum era homes in very small South Carolina town and we have tons of "ghost" stories. Most are strictly eye witness accounts but many have been shared experiences.

Quick history about the house: Brick, somewhat Victorian style home built in the mid-to-late 1800s. We never verified it, but we were told it was a slave safe haven for many years. This house had a few secret rooms, most were converted into large closets that had no windows. One room we found accidentally as it required finding the door that was hidden up in the stairway down to the basement, and climbing up a ladder chute within the wall. It was a very interesting home.

No one ever seemed to actually see "ghosts" except my friend, who by everyone's own account, took the brunt of the experiences. He did see them. They'd disappear as quickly as they appeared. Always pale, dressed in very old clothing, emotionless. My friend was terrified to be in his own house. He never slept in his own bedroom. He usually slept on the floor or the couch in the living room, nearest to his parents (even as he got older). He always slept with a box fan on high right next to his head to block out the noises the house made at night. And you could hear "people" walk by the fan constantly (I heard it multiple times myself). General rule of thumb was if you hear a noise, just pull the blanket over your head and ignore it. Noises, flickering lights, swaying chandeliers were mostly the norm. For example...

One night, home alone, my friend and I were watching tv in the family room when we noticed the dining room light turn on. By this point, we were used to things like this happening and typically just ignored it. But then it flickered again and caught our attention. Their stacks of laundry that they usually kept on the table prior to carrying upstairs began getting knocked to the floor. We heard a bang upstairs, like someone jumping off of a bed or something. Loud enough to cause the chandelier in the dining room to slightly sway. It all stopped as quickly as it started.

One summer, my friend's family went on vacation and left me in charge of feeding the animals and watering the plants. Morning and night, I went to the house to carry out the chores. I walk in through the garage, into the mudroom, and head down into the basement to feed the fish. While down there, I noticed the sound of a stereo bass coming from the second floor. I came up to the family room and peered into the house, debating on whether or not to go upstairs and investigate. The sound got louder, and then stopped. I decided to just leave. In the mudroom as I reached for the doorknob, someone or something started banging on that very door, rattling all the glass panes (yes, glass panes, I could see through to the other side and no one was there). I ripped open the door and GTFO.

This same year, the encounters began escalating. Mostly just in occurrence rate, not in intensity. Until, as a joke, the older sister bought a Ouija Board. By this time we were all high school aged and felt it'd be fun to have some people over, sneak in some beers, and play the game upstairs in one of the bedrooms. We lit candles all around the room (one happened to be by the door, under the lightswitch). After playing around with the game for a half hour or so, asking it silly questions, we decided to ask it something scary. "Prove you're here," we said. My friend's sister and her best friend were operating the pointer. Prior to this question, we all knew they were moving it. But after asking the question, the pointer spun out from under their hands. They each believed the other did it, but both denied it. In short, the "spirit" spelled out that it would burn out a candle. "Which one?" we asked. It replied "Lightswitch." "When?" we asked. "12," was the response. At this point it was 11:55pm. At 11:59 the candle by the lightswitch starts flickering as if someone is breathing on it. The flame is dancing. No other candle in the room is doing the same. At midnight, the candle burned out. Half the people in the room bolt. The other half, frozen in fear or curiosity, or stupidity...who knows. At 12:01am the candle re-lit. We boxed the Ouija board and never got it back out.

After that incident, the intensity increased to covers getting ripped off you while sleeping at night. Sounds of voices throughout the house. The banging noises were more forceful. Etc.

Not long after, we graduated high school and moved on with our lives. After my friend joined the military and moved out, the encounters basically stopped. His parents still live in the house. They've since admitted to hearing voices and crying on the baby monitors, only to find all the kids sleeping soundly when they checked. Doors opening and closing, Lights turning off and on. Etc. But it's their home and they refuse to move. Activity has basically stopped in the house. I recently asked my friend about it and he said occasionally his mom will mention something but it's nothing crazy. It's like once the kids moved out, especially my friend, the house regained peace. He jokes about it now, but I think that really bothered him. Like what was it about him that seemed to rile things up?

Anyways, those are the main stories that I was personally involved in with this house. I've heard others but since I didn't witness them, I won't include them. Believe what you will, or don't. We all know what we saw and heard, especially that night with the Ouija game. I've had issues with stuff like that ever since. It's been over 20 years since that happened but I still get chills from it.

It sounds to me like some restless children spirits might have been jealous of your friend having a normal, healthy home life, and decided to do some light poltergeisting out of jealousy and spite.

Funny you say that, because one of the voices the youngest sibling would hear regularly was that of a laughing child. I personally never heard it. The main experience my friend had came from a woman, although he said he heard a man's voice before too (as did I). Nothing you could make out though.
Good grief, do I have a couple of creepy ouija board stories. Ill never touch one again.
Please share. I think most people think I'm full of it when I tell that specific one. I only know of one other non-related Ouija story: a co-worker had one, had a bad experience with it (she wouldn't disclose details), she trashed it...or so she thought....she came inside only to find it in the spare bedroom a day or so later.

My brother and sister-in-law lived in a poltergeist house for over ten years. MANY phenomena, but essentially all playful. Lots of stuff way out of range as to being explainable in mundane ways. I personally would have liked to experience some of that, but no luck. As to Ouija, I made a study of 200 cases of Ouija board experiences, and the negativity associated with that was overwhelming. I believe that 80% of the participants said flatly to avoid the damm things if you have any sense. The great Catholic fiction writer, Father Andrew Greeley, knew all about this too, and warned readers against it.

As I've mentioned before, my wife is sort of from all over, but graduated from HS in Los Angeles and then graduated from USC, so she's at least partially a SoCal girl. When she teases me about Alabama and all the typical stereotypes, I reply with, "Well Princess, while YOUR people were busy stealing surfing from the Hawaiians and making Gilligan's Island, MY people were putting men on the moon. Got anything else to say?" :D:D

When she teases me about Alabama and all the typical stereotypes, I reply with, "Well Princess, while YOUR people were busy stealing surfing from the Hawaiians and making Gilligan's Island, MY people were putting men on the moon. Got anything else to say?" :D:D
My wife is from Germany as well.

The pic looks fake to me. Ship was chased, yet the pic looks like it was taken from land. NY Post says it was two car size balls of light. Per the NYP, this occurred last October. Beam me up Scotty.

If you believe that our recent 'visitors' are intelligent life with reason to look in on us, mess with us, and flash their capabilities in an almost playful manner...

Wouldn't a pretty believable theory in the uptick of such activity be that they're hanging out in case they need to prevent us from destroying ourselves?

If they're that advanced, and they haven't used their technology to destroy us or enslave us, you have to think they'd probably view us as a 'native life' conservation project lol.

I’m sure they can’t interfere and violate their prime directive unless they have a Jim Kirk aboard.

Their Jim Kirk is likely distracted, we're hoping for a Bones to be mature and save the day tbh

I’m pretty sure that’s just a cover photo.
