This was taken earlier today from inside the stadium by a grad student on campus.

Looking at their sports installations, I'd bet this is just for the sidelines. Edit: 20 people beat me to the punch with the URL.

That would be a serious buzz kill if it is just for the sidelines

Not gonna lie I'm in favor of the natural grass. I can't really defend it i'm just attached to it emotionally. It's a bit embarassing...

as a side note, my Green Bay Packers installed that awesome hybrid stuff a few years ago and everyone was up in arms about it. But literally by the end of next season everyone agreed that it was a good idea. The Packers are pretty much the closest thing the NFL has to ND, but we don't have an NDNation-style official gathering place for that segment of Packers fan so there's no saying whether they just crawled into the woodwork or were actually converted. But I think the hybrid turf is the eventual result of this madness.

Ahh... the monthly fake report of field turf.

Yes, gentleman.... just like last time, and the time before that.... it's just for the sidelines.

i dont know, that is a pretty good cover if they want to keep this as a surprise... Just kind of seems odd that with all the clamoring for Turf these days, they finally get around to it, but only for the sidelines.

Not giving up hope yet...

Supposedly, this change will improve the drainage situation and allow the grass to perform better. My take is that this is a last ditch effort to appease both the anti-turf traditionalists and the people who think ND's field has served as a competitive disadvantage. I haven't read/heard that anywhere, just my guess. If the grass doesn't perform better after these changes, then they can say they tried when they do eventually switch to turf on the playing field.

change at Notre Dame is so gradual, maybe our first turf should be that shiny plastic AstroTurf from the 70's?

Notre Dame has money growing out of their ears and they can't give the players turf. But they can give a mediocre men's basketball team a brand new arena. Amazing
