PNW is great! Seattle and Portland are not. Lives in Bellevue, Snoqualmie and Normandy Park before moving back to the hell hole known as Newport Beach. I do like how green it is up there. I stay away from downtown LA and USC! Much to love about PNW just not in those two formerly great now sad cities.

I’ve been disappointed w/ Mills getting off blocks these past two games. We heard how great he looked in camp but he’s inconsistent vs unimpressive teams thus far.

Not much to take from a win against such an overmatched opponent. Clearly, they were sleepwalking a bit until Ford was knocked out (hope the young man is doing OK), but that seemed to get them going. Nice to see Angeli get a chance to throw some passes, and he did a great job of evading the rush and remain composed on the TD to Price. Also nice to see Minchey get a couple of series. Hoping for a hurricane free game next week in Raleigh.

ST were better with Mason

I suppose a re-watch might give me a better idea but I think a common misconception is sacks equals pass rush.

Countless times pressure made the QB have to move off his spot, throw early, or scramble.

You’d like to see them finish those but in todays college ball where some QB’s are athletes first and QB’s second, this is what you get.

Had to rush 5-6 guys just to get to the qb though...

The pressure was because the secondary had them locked down.
In the initial 3 seconds, which is a pass rush, ND didn’t produce.
TSU’s OL was horrible in the FCS, so ND should have eaten them up.
TSU had multiple sustained drives in the 1st half and it was because of ND’s DL.

100% agree
It was nice to see them not let a radically overmatched team keep up for more than 10 minutes. That's pretty much what happened.

I will say it was nice for Kenny M and other backups get some time.

Next week is not a 100% cupcake...but it will be a boring 2 games coming up.

I lived in Portland for 11 years. This is truth. I can't really think of any similarities besides Coffee, Food, and RAIN.

Good: Price and Love are both going to be elite. They are just scratching the surface. Same with the young linebackers, they are MUCH faster than the veteran linebackers. And Hartman continues to be the real deal.

Bad: I’m not convinced our front seven is championship caliber. They don’t seem disruptive enough or fast enough. Against poor competition I’m just not seeing the consistent havoc-wreaking plays.

Ugly: People need to get fired over this targeting shit. Ford getting knocked out cold was borderline but you see that called targeting all the time because it’s a lowered helmet for the tackler and clear helmet-to-helmet contact with the crown. But the real travesty was ND getting called for targeting on a play where contact was made the the shoulder/arm of the opponent. What the fuck are we actually doing? It’s clearly not about protecting players and it gets worse every year.

Nah...hippies really differ between the cities.
Homeless? That's a warm weather thing, nothing more.
Living in Minnesota I am always struck by how many homeless there are when I travel to any state South of here... I never saw so many homeless, until I went to Texas, Arizona, and Nevada. Portland was about the same.

Your second statement doesn’t need to be posted. Following Mason as ST coach is like being the coach who follows Saban when he finally steps down.

Im a fan of the Valpodoc, being from Valpo myself.

But, yes. Mason was an impossible act to follow.. BUT... a game with no losses due to ST and a blocked FG? It's not a neg.

(That wasn't a fumble on the 1stQ kickoff, it was attempted murder and bullshit.)

Rewatched 1st half, focused on Rocco and JD Bertrang. JD is just too blockable. His size seems to hurt him and it's a continued concern of mine given we haven't played a real OL yet. Can't have your MLB disappear upon contact.

While not focusing on him I couldn't help but notice Merriweather does block his ass off and hustle downfield. To me that says he's engaged at least. Really need him to break through.

I am gonna have to re-watch the game to see but I was a little disappointed in the downfield passing game. I was for sure we would take some shots.

I also said the first quarter was a failure. I would say that would be inaccurate because they seemed to learn and get better in the game.
