idk anything about the driver, but i know for sure that you are an enormous asshole

north dakota is the least productive poster on the site, constantly telling people their responses are lazy all while coming up with nothing but lazy responses himself.

Whining about other posters is super productive...

I'm guessing heavyset French-Canadian girl- probably in her 60's

Dark horse....but you left out religion. I'll assume Roman Catholic since she's French Canuck.

Making it taboo to even discuss a topic creates strong feelings of tension and hatred. The institution of Islamism, not to be confused with Islam as a whole, is an issue that deserves to be discussed, recognized as an issue and addressed with a plan of action. You are a part of the problem if you shout down those who disagree with you. That makes you the close-minded one

It's being called a "truck crash" right now. When and if it turns out to be a person of a particular faith, we'll begin to discuss why phobia of that faith played a role in this "truck crash".

It's a sad thing that we assume things, but in the state of the world, an educated guess, or those that make them should not ridiculed. Be honest with yourself. If you had to wager your life savings on who/what did this, you know where your bet would go. Sad, yes, but true.

I will be in Berlin in 19 days, I've been staying aware and updating myself on the happenings there relative to terrorism.

I will respect posters wishes and not go on a diatribe, at least not now. I will simply say that my "phobia" is not for a certain faith, but for its institution as a political ideology, which an alarming percentage of said faith, even those not identified as extremists, support.

Basically it doesn't matter to me if the number of extremists is relatively small. Any number of death in the name of religion is unnecessary and must be stopped.

How we come up with a solution, can be debated and is certainly above this boards pay grade. Bottom line: being called racist for calling a spade a spade is going to get us nowhere. *Note: I know nobody has been called racist in this thread. I am speaking generally.

Prayers for those impacted

I don't understand why it is a sad thing that we assume. It's common sense. Radical Islamic terrorist have declared war on the ideas of Western society. They have employed this tactic before and the event occurred in front of a Christian church during the Christian holy season. - It could be a freak accident, or in the real world its likely another in a long series of radical Islamic attacks.

Maybe I should have said it's sad that we are put in a position to be able to assume.

I know it is easy to jump to conclusions with these sorts of things, and I concede that conventional logic points to these exact conclusions. I'm not blind to that. It doesn't make anyone an asshole to jump to these conclusions. I think dakota was being an asshole for offering reps/daring people to disagree, as if it brought him joy that there was another attack to generalize about.

It was a reaction to your comment, but more a general comment about the state of the issue. Maybe 15 years ago we were in a place where we were jumping to conclusion when we immediately thought an incident like this was terrorism, but we have seen this behavior too many times to think it is anything but radical Islamic terrorism. Anyway, no offense intended YJ- and I agree

Yeah, stoked that more people from my family's country of origin are being killed. Couldn't be more excited.

No offense taken brother. I assumed automatically. I don't beat myself up for assuming, it just saddens me sometimes how shitty the world can be.

Put me in the asshole category because I immediately assumed he was from Syria and this was a terrorist act. I don't have a racist bone in my body, I just stay up to date enough on what's going on and used common sense to come to that assumption.

That is why i also said Syria right away.. Germany took in 1 million Syrian refugees in 2015, and over 300k in 2016. It has been widely reported that extremists have been trying to infiltrate through the refugee process..

its only a matter of time before words like racists, sexist, misogynist start getting thrown around. All of those types of discussions end up there......ALL OF THEM.

I blame colonialism! Too much white male aggression in this world, how do you expect people not to go on killing sprees?

The whole thing mirrors the France attacks

The Muslim terrorists are instructed to use automobiles as weapons now
