Eat a lot of taco bell. Dump as much as you can. Never spent time in Madison but Wisconsin people suck.

I'm going up for an ordination, so I'd have to be really careful about that timing. Don't really wanna expel my bowels in front of Bishop Morlino...

Im about an hour southeast of DC for the last few weeks. Got a lot of sightseeing in. But my fav thing I did was far and away Civil War battlefields.

On Saturday, my sister and I hit up 1st and 2nd Manassas battlefields. If you are remotely interested in our civil war...these are great! Battlefield is super well preserved and not at all encroached on by homes or businesses.

Today, my work class got done at 10 am so I hit up Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. Crazy to imagine how many people fought and died in these places.

Highly recommend!

Brings back great memories from childhood, as my dad (RIP, ND chem prof) was a civil war buff and we spent many summers visiting literally all of them east of the Mississippi. Those visits brought history alive later in school. Great activity for family.

Later learned a relative on mothers side, whose family had moved to Ill from Tenn prior to war, served under Grant at Vicksburg siege, Kind of a bummer for me, since raised in Bama and always had a heart for johnny reb.

I visited Manassas about 15 years ago. Definitely worth the time. I've been to a couple of other Civil War sites. I would recommend anyone interested in visiting Civil War sites go to Andersonville. I've been twice. Out of the way compared to a lot of sites, but it's a must see. The cemetery with all of the monuments is inspiring, but they have also preserved the area where the camp was and the little creek (if you can call it that) is still there. Last time I visited, they were starting to recreate the actual camp and a quick google shows it's finished now.

Camp, I'm coming to Anaheim next February. Will need a list of my best dining options within walking distance of Disneyland. We likely won't have a car.

By "dining" I mean street food.

Forget this whole post... I thought I read, "I'm coming to Anaheim next FRIDAY..."

Within walking distance of Disneyland???... well there is Downtown Disney with Jazz Cafe ( love that place) and a number of Italian places and such but none of that really qualifies as 'street food' although Jazz Cafe has an 'express' version on the side with an abbreviated menu that basically works as such... though the quality isn't as good as inside I've found. There is also a ton of little spots just outside the entrance but most of those are also sit down...

You def want to hit up some street tacos, a chile renello plate or a good burrito while you're out here but if I'm honest I don't know the Anaheim places too well in terms of street tacos and such. If I were you I'd research places near where you are staying and find something decent. Don't trust the Mexican spots inside the parks, not very good but if it comes to that the place in California Adventure is much better and closer to authenticity than the one inside Disneyland.

Right across the street from Disneyland's main entrance on Harbour there is a lil hotel I've stayed at number of times... The Anaheim Hotel, that has an award winning pizza joint in it. I've never eaten there (it's just never worked out) but it's supposed to be very good and not too expensive. It seems as though it can be sit down or grab and go...

For cheap ass food the Captain Kid's Buffet, literally right across the street from the entrance, you can't miss it is a super cheap way to feed the family but pretty below average. It's much like the Circus Circus buffet in Vegas, pretty shitty but a good deal when everything else around you costs so much. I'm really only mentioning it for cheap breakfast that should satisfy everyone before entering the park... don't expect much other than a cheap meal.

In Disneyland the Plaza Inn is supposed to be the spot, right at the end of Main Street USA. They have a great reputation for fried chicken but I'm just whatever on it. Only place I like in Disneyland food wise is the Dole Pineapple place and the Bengal BBQ just across from Indiana Jones (Both these posts are in Frontier Land just FYI) . Bengal BBQ is one of the cheaper places to eat too...

Might need an Uber for these but worth mentioning:

I'd highly recommend the Karl Strauss brew house across the street from Angel Stadium (about a mile or two from Disneyland) for great food and good beer.

There's a decent German spot right off the 57 fwy (Ball Exit) called Jagerhaus.

There is also a Roscoes Chicken and Waffles on Harbor down the street from Disneyland... not quite walking distance but a very short drive away. Always good stuff there and you can say you've been...

With a google search and having my Spidey-Taco senses on full blast these look good enough to where I'd expect a good representation of Cali street tacos burritos and such:

Los Cotijas Mexican Grill. It's on Harbor and looks legit, though you'd need an Uber for sure. Only ten minutes away though you could Uber there and back for fairly cheap,.. ten bucks or so.

Taqueria El Trompo: about a 30 minute walk from DLand apparently and this place also looks great. Most of it's less than stellar reviews seem to be stuck on the fact it's a hole in the wall which is usually a dead giveaway that it's gonna have really good food. pictures of their tacos also look legit.

For true walking distance you're stuck with Jimboys Tacos right across the street from the entrance... I think its right next to that buffet if memory serves. I've walked by it a number of times and it never looked that good and the pictures online make it seem like a Cafe Rio kind of spot more than real cali mex... but that seems you're only real option if you really can't drive anywhere.

There are other lil spots in that stretch of Harbor blvd that you will see are very easy to get to but other than that pizza spot in the Anaheim Hotel none of them pass the sniff test or have a good reputation.

On that last note though, IDK how it is in your neck of the woods but out here Uber is everywhere now and super easy to use... I'd highly recommend getting all set up with that before coming out here if you are not already a user...

Also, for just simple dining they just recently finished the Garden Walk just behind that Hotel on Harbor... It's like another Downtown Disney. Tons of nicer eateries in there, all kinds of food, Irish Pubs, a House of Blues, PF Changs, Sea food spots all the typical corporate places, just in case. That's def in walking distance.

Skip Roscoes not sure what the hype was for. The Jazz place in Downtown Disney has the same food as the Café Orleans in New Orleans square so personally I would dine at the one in DL for the atmosphere.

If you wan't good food that isn't a chain I would go about 5 mins away from Disneyland to get out of the touristy places. ACamp is right with Karl Strauss tap room across from Angel Stadium as well as Golden Road Brewery which is next door.

If you like pastrami I would highly recommend the Hat and get their pastrami dip and pastrami chili cheese fries (big enough for two) Best pastrami ever

JazzCafe and the spot in New Orleans square are vastly different in quality tho calv ... I’m a creole food hound and have eaten both many times... it’s totally different food.... even different menus aside from red beans and rice really...... Jazz Cafe is way better... just my two cents.

Going to Vegas with the wife for first time next week. Testing at the cosmopolitan. Outside of some of the obvious common things to go see anybody have any suggestions on things to do. Also, seems like there is a lot of dress code. What should I plan to pack/wear on a nightly basis.

If you are into nature or photography go to Red Rock nat park and Spring Mountain Ranch State Park just a few mins from each other

Don't walk too far away from Disneyland. The rest of Anaheim is a shithole.

We aren't huge gamblers. We already have tickets to Le Reve so doubt we do another show. Love food. But I feel like it's the type of place to step out of the comfort zone (which for me is much bigger than my wife)

Anything outside during day will be blistering HOT this time of year.

Go downtown one evening to Fremont Street...can be fun just watching/seeing all the "types" that are out and about. And the gambling is cheaper with a little better odds at casinos like Golden Nugget.

You're hotel has a pretty good pool atmosphere if you want to get a little outside of your comfort zone lol... Send the wife for massage and pedicure, and spend a few hours of "me time" at the Marquee Day Club pool. The Hard Rock pool is off the hook in the summer too.

As far as gambling goes, I've went with several people that didn't like to gamble. What I found out, is that they were hesitant to "participate" in the process lol. A good option if you're not into the constant activity of craps or card games, is the sports book. Get a racing form and tip sheet a few hours before the races, and lay a few bets on the horses. Then you can sit back and relax while watching the race and having a cocktail. Cheap, easy, and fun. The Cosmopolitan has a pretty good sportbook, but if you try it, and like it, go visit the Mirage's SB.

One thing I will say is that Vegas is constantly changing. New hotels, new restaurants, new attractions. I always read up for the hot spots before I go. We always find something new.... Last time I went, I rode a mechanical bull...

Here's a good short read....

Ha... Compared to Racho Santa Magarita yeah... it is... compared to the rest of America that doesn’t perfectly encapsulate the American Dream... Anaheim is pretty cool.
