Let the post-spring transfer season begin

Source: Upchurch to transfer
LSU Fullback-turned-receiver Tony Upchurch plans to transfer, a source told The Advocate on Saturday.

A redshirt sophomore, Upchurch played in the final eight games of last season at fullback. He was moved to receiver during the offseason.

Upchurch was absent from, at least, the last two weeks of spring practice and did not participate in the spring game.

Gabe Sherrod, DE is now a graduate transfer from Delaware State to Syracuse.

He "is interested in pursuing a Master's degree in mechanical engineering."

In 2014, Sherrod
"pled guilty to one count of conspiracy third degree and one count of theft on Sept. 15, 2014, according to Carl Kanefsky, a spokesman for the Delaware Attorney General's Office. He was sentenced on Dec. 19, 2014, to one year in prison, suspended immediately for one year of probation for each charge and was ordered to pay restitution ($2,525) and court costs and fees.

The probationary periods ran concurrently and Sherrod never received any jail time. He violated his probation in November of 2015 and was ordered to pay restitution, according to Kanefsky.

Syracuse's need for DEs was critical. They lost three players from last year's squad. Ron Thompson left early for the NFL Draft. Donnie Simmons exhausted his eligibility. Luke Arciniega was medically disqualified due to concussions.

Syracuse headed into the New Year with only four returning scholarship defensive ends.

Two of those four - Qaadir Sheppard and Amir Ealey - were dismissed due to "rules violations" (second failed drug tests) three weeks before Sherrod committed to the Orange. The week prior to Sherrod's commitment another DE, Kenny Carter, was dismissed leaving only a Resdhirt freshman Jake Pickard as the sole returning DE. Three DE signees come in the fall.

On March 30th, dismissed DE, Amir Ealey has been arrested and charged with two counts of rape, seemingly unrelated to his dismissal.

Syracuse University Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) have a memorandum of understanding outlining their partnership and their responsibilities. Syracuse, of course, is a private university.

Yesterday a former Syracuse football player, who was dismissed in 2014, stabbed two ex-teammates at a campus apartment.

Mean streak, or his steak was tough, because that could explain it all. He was busy cutting through a tough steak with a mean streak and slipped and accidentally stabbed a couple of guys, eight or nine times . . .

I can't decide if it was too many, or not enough drugs.

Former LSU lineman Jevonte Domond transferring to UTSA, per report

Domond entered LSU after one year at a Community College. In 2014 he played one game. He made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2014, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. This spring LSU announced that he had graduated and the reserve lineman was moving on. Domand's 2015 year started under a cloud in the spring with an felony domestic abuse arrest for choking and slamming his fiance while she was attending to their newborn. The argument involved pepper spray and a knife. He was suspended from the team, but reinstated prior to the season despite pending charges.

Booted by Syracuse, Qaadir Sheppard transfers to Ole Miss

As a true freshman last season, Sheppard played in nine games. However, he reportedly failed two drug tests and was suspended for the last two games of 2015 as well as the first four of 2016. That four-game suspension will not carry over to his new home.

In early February, Sheppard was dismissed by the Orange for the vague “violation of unspecified team rules.”

Report: Travonte Valentine cleared to be eligible for LSU, but hurdle remains

Travonte Valentine is one step closer to making a potential return to LSU this fall.

According to The Advocate of Baton Rouge, the Tigers have been told by the SEC that Valentine would be eligible for the coming season should he return to the Tigers.

But that assurance comes only if Valentine successfully completes 13 hours of course work at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, per the report.

Valentine, a former four-star defensive tackle out of Champagnat Catholic High School (Hialeah, Fla.), was considered a key component of the Tigers’ 2014 signing class.

However, the 6-foot-3, 325-pounder was dismissed by LSU in July 2015 after academic issues left him ineligible for his freshman season.
