The Transfer Portal relaxation of transfer rules is awful for ND. What a shitty situation for the Irish.

It just helps the dumbass SEC even more.

Cliff notes for us Poors?

Basically a bunch of Group of 5 coaches discussing off the record how much their players get tampered with.

Guys getting 150-200K offers through back channels (trainers, the family uncle) and agents charging 15-20% of the NIL fee collected (whereas in the NFL they'd be limited to 3% of a player's earnings).

Some G5 coaches bemoaning how other P5 coaches aren't even trying to hide the tampering, and are directly messaging kids to entice them to leave their current spots.

Finally, there's some stuff in there from Pat Narduzzi saying what a big man he is and how great he is for standing up during the Jordan Addison tampering. USC absolutely tampered and the Trojans suck, but my heavens is Narduzzi a douche.

Nothing in that article is a surprise.

As an aside - The Athletic is the only subscription I have. It is well worth the money.
Nope.

One way to curb that would be for the NCAA to significantly reduce the number of coaches/analysts/managers so they don't have time to scout other schools rosters.

This right here. I *kind of* get it for Buchner. I guess Kollie was getting passed up and if he wants to play now he needs to move down a peg. How Styles and Diggs actually better their situation by leaving, I’m not clear. And all in all, the list of guys who’ve transferred out of Notre Dame and made it to the NFL is quite short.

I don't know how mutual the connection is at the school's level, but South Carolina fans have been pulling HARD for Diggs to come there. They think he'll get 20 carries a game. Their best RB transferred to the other USC this offseason, and the next best RB averaged 1.5 LESS yards per carry than Diggs. They must have liked what they saw from him in that bowl game. He had the one big run go for 38 yards and a score, and the pass that went for 75 yards and another score. 170 yards from scrimmage.

We don't claim them (same with Mizzou). ;)

Aggies are a weird, weird bunch, and that school is odd...it's steeped in traditions, but very cult-like.

That said, and off-topic, I'd highly encourage any ND fans to take the trip to College Station next year. Yes, it will be hot as hell, the town is nothing to write home about, the campus has an Eastern Bloc architetetural feel to it, but their marching band, unique traditions, and stadium are truly something to see. I hate them, but I'd highly recommend it.

Some of the stuff in that article is jaw-dropping.

If the coaches wanted to change anything, they'd put their names on it. Narduzzi is a baby, but at least he puts himself out there.

What isn't being said is that the ones bitching about getting raided are raiding others.

And that coaches have been able to do the same as these kids are now doing forever. Oh, but it's a problem when the kids can also act like mercenaries.

I like Feldman, but that dude lives to be a coach's mouthpiece.

^^ this

The amount of money in the sport has made its coverage complete corporate drivel.

Even the journalist jobs are too lucrative to say anything other than party line.

You have to read all of this stuff the way an investor reads a corporate release or how a common sense person reads political news.

Your points aren't without merit, but Narduzzi is a doucher of the highest order.

Yep. Nobody's blaming the players here, or calling them "mercenaries." The opposite. But there need to be rules and they need to be enforced (by someone above individual coaches, who like anyone else will act in their own self-interest) or the combo of instant transfer and NIL will destroy the sport.

Why does Narduzzi hate ND?
He’s just a crusty old asshole who hates everyone, and ND obviously is polarizing.

But his hatred specifically with ND goes back to him being the DC at Michigan St.
In 2013, when MSU finished 13-1, and won the Rose Bowl, with their only loss being against ND.
The Narduzzi Defensive scheme is to put your corners on an island, have them grab, hold & tackle the receivers at the LOS, & force the official to make the call.
It worked for him all year, but against ND they got flagged for multiple PI’s (and they all were).
He lost his shit over it & says the refs were ND-biased, despite the fact the refs were B1G refs that MSU brought.
He was always bitter towards ND, but since then he has been butthurt.

One of the greatest upsets that BK doesn't get enough credit for, and it was with Rees at QB. We just kept chucking it deep, and MSU couldn't stop holding our guys on the outside. It was a weird game to be at, but it was fulfilling to watch their sideline meltdown after watching some awful upsets in '05 when they planted the flag (The next year was sweet revenge) and 2010. Narduzzi can suck it!

It was a great win at the end of the season, but at kickoff ND was favored and ranked. MSU wasn’t even ranked yet.

A good reason why rankings shouldn't come out till midseason probably. We barely finished in the Top 25 while MSU went 13-1 with the Rose Bowl.
