This is a cutthroat business. If Denson is the man they want, then they take him. Who cares what others feelings are, or how this looks to outsiders. Take what you want, when you want, how you want. Same goes for Denson, ND, Alford, whoever. Do what you got to do, and let those with hurt feelings have them.

It's time to play hardball.

Yeah. That doesn't matter. Todd Lyght had been at Vandy, what, three weeks?

Idk about you guys, but if we MUST lose coaches like Alford, I'm pretty happy with the idea of Quinn and Hoke joining the staff.

Is Hoke back in the picture? Because I agree that'd be great.

If we swapped Cooks, LaFleur, Alford and, say, Elston for Lyght, Quinn, Denson and Hoke, I'd say we're doing OK.

Maybe Quinn can help turn those top 10 recruiting classes into top 10 finishes in the polls. I like Alford a lot, but he's gone and need to look forward. ND gained a better football coach in the process. Let this play out a little guys, I'm sure there's a plan. I know it hurts, but there's nothing anyone can do about it. I'm going to give the benefit to Kelly and Co to identify a dynamic recruiter.

Where are we getting the Brady Hoke thing from? He squashed that rumor pretty quickly the other day.

He squashed it because he had to squash it. Does something come to fruition? Not necessarily however its not out of the question.

Its possible more shakeups could occur.

Wouldn't be shocked if the end game is, in addition to the Quinn add, Brady Hoke does join the staff as DL/AHC/recruiting coordinator.

Completely agreed.

And ND would be better off for it.

Liked Alford but am excited to see what a new coach can do for our running unit. Sucks to lose our best recruiter but it did seem like our backs never really developed. Not saying that it was his fault but I thin he was the head of the running unit in every year but one since '09.

Really sucks cause no manner what you opinion on the guy was you gotta admit it is a homerun hire for OSU. They add one of the best recruiters in the nation and its not like they need him to tweak their running game at all, I mean just look at Elliot last year. The running game has always been Urbans specialty.

If we get Denson to replace Alford, I'd be pretty happy. In addition to his background as a player at ND and the NFL, Denson is from Florida and has coached in Florida. So I'd think he has some pretty good connections with high schools in the state.

Is Autry Denson a candidate? That would be a home run to me. Maybe my favorite Golden Domer of all-time!

And now ND and TA can spin it as he left for a promotion when we all know he left for a pay raise.

I've been saying since last night, this was never just about money.

Innitial reaction is obviously negative cause it's a huge blow to the immediate recruiting effort of '16 to lose the guy who coordinates the staff's efforts but thus far the staff replacements have been benefitial:

Quinn over LaFluer

Lyght over Cooks

but who could be a possible improvement over Alford?

And just as importantly who takes command of the staff's recruiting coordination?

Todd Lyght was my favorite player growing up, but I don't see how anyone can say that he's an improvement over Cooks. Our DB's haven't played this well since I can't even remember when. Cooks was their coach and deserves all the credit in the world. Plus, after a struggle for a couple of years, he unlocked Texas for ND again. Call me crazy, but he's a bigger loss than Alford for me. I elected Alford to be gone. Cooks hurts more, IMHO.

We all knew this day was coming.

It just sucks it had to be to OSU.

That's exactly where I'm at. People at ND knew this day was coming. He wants his own gig, and he needed to energize his career at another place to get that gig. But damn, OSU? I hate that act of it the most.

Yeah because Cincy is always on the tip of recruits tongues.

Is Iowa State on the tips of recruits' tongues? That's where Alford came from before a really bad Louisville program picked him up. We got him off a 5-7 season. Did that matter?

What? The point is that it's an accomplishment to do that at a school most recruits would never consider. Would you rather have Lane Kiffin and his good season at Alabama?

People need to stop bickering and take a moment to appreciate the longest tenured member of our staff.

Here is a picture of him at Notre Dame stadium drinking coffee, cause he was a closer...

You do realize that's not Alford, right? It's the actor Charles S. Dutton in the film Rudy.

This stinks b/c I liked Alford and I think he "got" ND and represented the school well but the sun is going to come up tomorrow, ND will have a new RB Coach, ND will have another Recruiting Coordinator. There are a lot of people qualified for this job, just a matter of finding the right one. I think we will always be a competitive disadvantage financially versus the bigger schools but that is the way it is, you have accept it and plan your moves accordingly. Not saying he left for money just guessing that OSU and SEC Schools, etc can probably offer more, I've always wondered if they get Pensions as coaches????
Anyway, I am interested to see who they hire, I know some guys are kicking around Autrey Denson, if he is the right guy, so be it, I would love a ND guy but IMO, I would prefer the right guy, if he isn't a ND guy I am cool with that too.

Shows he cares about them but dude man up....

Why can't he be emotional about it?

Look, I get it, nobody likes OSU but its a smart career move for TA. He has been at ND for 6 years and with him interviewing for a head coach position, its clear he wants more. He and Urban go back to his CSU days so its not a complete shock. Its clear why Urban wants him and I'm okay with that. Urban was able to give him the title of associate head coach. Alford is pumping up his resume.

I am absolutely in no way shocked nor upset at the man for doing what he feels is best for his career. He has every right to take that next step. While he has been a great recruiter, he is not the only person that can recruit.

Its time ND's RB position gets a fresh face.
