Trust me, transferring from one school to another isn't easy. I looked into leaving ND when I was told that communication arts was no longer being offered as a degreed major at the end of my sophomore year. (It's now a big deal – they guessed wrong at the time.) As rigorous and thorough as Notre Dame's Freshman Year of Studies was/is it was no guarantee of a damn thing.

The red tape, along with my marginal GPA at the time, made for an easy decision to stay in South Bend. Do I regret four years and a degree from Notre Dame? Maybe a little. The friends I made among classmates and professors live in my heart to this day.

Notre Dame, football or otherwise, is not necessarily a place for everyone. Being able to "stunt" for a sack or run off tackle for 30 yards or complete a 60 yard pass is not the be-all and end-all.

I had an interesting experience at the game Saturday. I am now strongly impressed that the number one issue is to enhance the seating by getting rid of the redwood and putting fewer replacements in the same area, then going up with the stadium on every wall but the North to increase the overall seating capacity. This is not easy, because the intent seems to be to keep the feel of the current stadium.

I was asked enough about the Jumbotron issue to know it was being considered, but if I would have to guess, I would say a highly commercialized Jumbotron is an issue, but a less commercialized, one for replays and ND messages is not so much an issue. It is just how that fits in with keeping as much of the stadium experience as possible.

I think that is what all of the stadium improvements and enhancements are being filtered through. If I had to summarize anything as a theme, it would be that some people are putting a hell of an effort into understanding and experiencing the stadium, and reaching out to many others to get their impressions. That effort is more than impressive!

So I think that some engineering for turf has to wait to find out the scope and intent of the rest of the project, which has not entirely been determined.

Interesting how some of the scope issues include using the stadium for other purposes much like the U of C stadium is utilized.

Welp, guess you aren't really in the know. Kelly is leaving for either Texas or the NFL next year.

This is actually true. Don't ask how I know, but I know someone who knows Brian Kelly and says that he is pretty smarmy. Will step on anyone he needs to step on to further his career. He's looking to get out for a head NFL coaching position.

it sounds like there would need to be an agreement between admissions and football where JuCo's come in and automatically redshirt their first year on campus to catch up. JuCo's could graduate from ND in 5 years, but 4 would be virtually impossible. Regardless, if Harvard is willing to accept JuCo players, ND should be able to figure it out.

Also, I try not to take exception when people rag on JuCo's for not being smart. ...

It would take a pretty special blend of student/football player to make it at ND from JuCo and I'm not confident there are many of those out there.

Right. That's what I was trying to say. It's not a matter of smarts - plenty of JUCO kids are plenty intelligent - or even want-to, so much as the fact that the combination of timing, Notre Dame's graduation requirements (which should remain non-negotiable) and the plethora of easier options out there make it unlikely that many difference-making JUCOs are likely to actually wind up at Notre Dame.

Guy I talked to in ND's Admissions office said that they are for sure renovating soon, and at the very least will expand the Press box and putting a equivalent one on the other side of the field. He also said that there is much debate over the Jumbotron right now and he doesn't think one would be included atleast right away in the renovation.

I am not offering much in opinion, just an interpretation of what I may have heard. I am sure there are many dead set against a Jumbotron, that colors the will or won't conversation, and I admit that intersects with the traditional feel of the stadium. The point is if anything, that is being taken seriously, with respect. That is why I so strongly noted the position some may be taking on a scaled down version for replays only. Sort of an initial step. Give something for those who want, and keep it under control for those who don't.

Another thing that is interesting of note, is sensitivity to having made Touchdown Jesus disappear with the last stadium expansion.

I don't see any renovation covering up the view of TDJ any more than it already does.
