Quite possibly the worst response you could have written. The point isn’t that Saban was a great coach in the NFL. Have you seen Sabans coaching tree? If Tommy wants to be in the NFL Saban will have him there within 2 years. Also, you’re gonna be shocked to find out who Belicheck just hired to be his OC.

O'Brien has worked for the Pats before and did a great job. He is a tough sob and is just what Mac Jones needs. He wasn't afraid to put Brady in his place when necessary.

Maybe some of us hold Applebees in a higher regard? Don't judge. I could have been mean and said Chipotle.
Applebees makes some dang good appetizers... Outback Steakhouse is the pinkie out restaurant IMO describes ND.

I hate the timing of this, shit just always has to go sideways for ND. Time to find someone who light up the scoreboard

I love that this is slowly merging into another food thread.
Food matters: When under stress people tend to gravitate towards things that calm them or brings them happiness (even short term). To some losing Rees may produce anxiety and uncertainty and they may want a Double Whopper or an Appetizer from Applebee's. Then the other half gets so excited he is leaving that they want to celebrate with some good food. In the end, it comes back to food. Tuscaloosa has some good food spot's, but nothing off the charts. South Bend though really does struggle in that area.

Saban always hires average coordinators. 😂
I mean he's on a good run for sure. But OC's like Mike Mularkey, Major Applewhite, Jim McElwain, and Doug Nussmier didn't really set a standard of great OC's.

Tommy is way better than those guys. No way any of them would have even scored the 3 that Tommy pulled off against Clemson in the playoffs a few years back.

Don’t agree the timing isn’t great this is probably best time to have a change in coaches as the 2023 recruiting class is already set and plenty of time for new coaches to connect with 2024 kids

Agreed. It could be worse. Just make sure the new OC makes the kids coming in feel comfortable, Hartman feels comfortable, and the 2024 class feels good about coming to ND as well. Then a full spring practice to install the new offense.

My prediction is Tommy lasts 1 year in Bama… I think he is in over his head and not sure how well he will focus in that environment… even if he is above average fans will be savage

1. If MF and TR have been honest with recruits about his potential to leave, this is a non-story.

2. Smart career move for TR. As soon as MF was named head coach, the writing was on the wall for TR. He had to move.

3. Anybody who thinks a top offensive mind isn’t salivating at this opportunity has had too many glass half empty cocktails.

4. An opportunity to run an offense for a defensive minded head coach with a CFP caliber offense with Sam Hartman at the helm? Hell yes.

5. If ND can’t survive TR leaving, there are bigger issues at hand. (breaking news…they can and they will be just fine)

As someone who does the national marketing for Applebees, thanks for the shout, but ND should never be mentioned in the realm of any QSR. Reality is they’re a Peter Luger’s. Overrated Steakhouse in the current day that used to be amazing.
Thank God you didn’t say Ponderosa!!!

This is why the timing is worse than losing Rees. Garret Riley would have been a clear upgrade imo.

Not to worried about it to be honest.
Tommy could call a decent game.

Tommy could call 2 maybe 3 excellent drives a game.

Tommy would also have 2 maybe 3 WTAF are you doing drives a game.

Saban will mitigate Tommy and hopefully teach him that the smartest guy in the room doesn't always have to prove it.

If we can't hire a proven OC that can handle QBs you almost have to hire someone on the current staff as OC and then bring in a dedicated QB guy I would think. I'm thinking with the big recruits committed you can't have an inexperienced current staffer take over QBs unless they've coached the position before, you need someone who's played at a high level or coached there already.
