Okay.... So, I have a name to throw out there for a potential replacement.

Jimmie Doughtery. He's the passing game coordinator & QB coach at Arizona. Arizona was not a good team this year, but their offense was excellent. More specifically, they had a top 10 passing attack, and Jayden de Laura blossomed into one of the PAC12s top signal-callers.

Doughtery is still on the younger side (44), and has previously coached at UCLA & Washington. And does have some OC experience in his past, albeit with San Jose State and San Diego for a time. He's also an Illinois guy.

1) ND appears to be willing to match, so it won't come with a pay raise.

2) Alabama has been a machine, but nothing is guaranteed, and their offense was inconsistent last year, even with a Heisman winner at QB. Now, they're going to have to start from scratch. Sure a guy like Milroe or Simpson could end up being a stud. Key word there is COULD. Sam Hartman IS a stud.

If Tommy is looking to make a move in the not-to-distant future, then staying put, getting that pay raise, and riding Hartman to a huge offensive '23 seems like the move.
1) That would be very impressive if the Notre Dame Admin agrees to match the reported 3M per year salary.
2) "start from scratch" seems a little hyperbolic for Alabama. I agree that likely the easier option (for next season) would be to stay at ND.

Lastly, Tommy will be (31) next season when the next coaching cycle begins...in my mind he should be looking at either this spot or his next move (Alabama) as a 3-4 year option. I know the coaching game has skewed younger...but the idea of a 31 year old getting an NFL offensive coordinator job or Power 5 Head Coaching job is still unlikely in my mind. He is going to need to prove himself wherever he decides for at least another few years. I understand I could absolutely be wrong about that.

So what happens if Tommy doesn't like the Bama QB's in spring practice and he decides they need to go to the portal in May and grab his preferred QB?

I know Bama passed on Hartman in Dec but that was a different OC. Or was it Saban's call?

You think Hartman likes Rees not ND?
People are so deluded about Rees.

Isn’t it established that he is Sabans 20th choice.
This makes me want to think there might be something to the Saban retirement rumors that started quietly coming out last season.
It's very likely the coaching circles know way more then we do.

$3mill is probably more than Freeman is on.
You could get a bunch of highly rated midetier P5 HC’s for that.

I would rather give Jason Candle 3m.

If he says no, just go to ruggiero
I'm right there with you. If we're prepared to make him the highest paid coordinator in the country, maybe we should take a step back and see who else we could get for that kind money.

. I'm at peace as to why the Football Program won't win a Natty again. Just calling out the reasoning behind it. Just want to point it out to all of the knuckleheads that rip on coaches for leaving. ND is a stepping stone in the coaching ladder. Assistants to OSU for a lateral move. Kelly to LSU, Rees to Bama it looks like. It's the ultimate White Flag from the coaches. They say a Championship can be won here but their actions prove otherwise.
Overreaction? Lets watch the dominoes fall
Will Hartman stay?
Will CJ Carr sign?
What offensive recruits will transfer?
Dude you’ve posted something similar too many times to remember. No need to post. We know how you feel.

Ruggerio is the reason Hartman transferred from Wake in the first place.

I wouldn't mind giving Jim Svoboda a look. He may be on the older side, but his results have been very good.

Weis was getting a buyout payment of ~$2M in 2010....to not coach.

Freeman and Kelly would obviously be paid significantly more than that. No idea on whether this is correct or not CFB Coaches Salaries - but if you sincerely think Freeman is getting $3M or less, I don't know what to tell you. In no reasonable world does ND pay a HC the same as Oregon State or Navy. Come on.

Thought I read somewhere a while back the Freeman's salary is in the six million dollar range.

Yea, I would guess freeman is getting in the $5m range with performance based increases/bonuses built in.
