As stated in another thread: CJ Carr, Kenny Minchey, and Sam Hartman is all thats needed to be said. Pretty damn impressive for someone who cant recruit.

One hell of a turn around from Tommy. This is the area myself and others were critical of him. He put in the work and did a 180 with the QB room. Hopefully they have as strong of a bond that the room has talent.

I’m not saying he’s leaving or not 100% solid.
I’m saying talking about him like he’s already on campus is extremely premature and the board should know better. Getting his verbal is a huge accomplishment and shouldn’t be overlooked, but that’s all it is at this time.

Hartman, TB, SA, and Kenny is an awesome group. Next year IF Carr enrolls, we can add him to the list.

There’s quite less to talk about if we wait till only after signing day to do so.

I find it disappointing to read the posts on how Carr will beat out or force upper class men to transfer when he’s not on campus. Just like the Bowen will start as a true freshman and how Keeley was penciled into the two deep. It scarred me a bit I guess.

We have a potential All-American starting quarterback and a very high level second string. Potentially the best incoming freshman quarterback we’ve had in 15 years and a red shirt freshman that Tommy HAD to have. To me, it’s enough for now,

Not to mention I’m superstitious.

A very good QB needs only 2 yrs. of play to show the NFL of what they are capable of doing. Carr can bide his time and jump in "when ready" and he'll be fine.

Also, teams that start true freshmen at QB very rarely have the sort of season that we would consider successful for Notre Dame.

But that too is not Jimmy’s point.

I'm assuming that stat is at least partially due to having Pyne as QB. Tommy did everything possible to minimize 3rd and long situations. 2nd and 10 was almost guaranteed to be a run play with the goal of trying to get a 3rd and 5 situation.

With a QB like Hartman, you may be more likely to take some shots on 2nd and 10, which means we may end up with more 3rd and 10 situations than what we had this year.

A strong running game will reduce the number of times you find yourself in 3rd and long. It was a smart move to lean on the backs this year given the struggles with the passing situation.

Kenny and Sam. CJ isn't on campus yet and it would be very premature to consider him a lock.
That kid is about to get the BAG thrown at him by dozens of schools.
No, he’s a lock. There’s nobody more active on social media, recruiting for the class, than CJ Carr.

This is the kiss of death. We've seen tons of super vocal recruits ultimately flake out, nothing is a sure thing. #BangBang
I’ve never seen an ND player that was this vocal, come close to wavering. Last yr it was Drayk Bowen, a few yrs ago it was Blake Fisher. There’s just some kids who you can tell are locks.

Fully aware, Lax just said flake out. Stepp was the first one who came to mind as a kid who was a very vocal recruiter who didn't end up enrolling at ND
I still feel bad about that situation. He was legitimately hyped to come to ND. I like ND having stricter academic requirements but if this kid was on the border, I’d wish they’d taken him. I feel like he would’ve put in the work in the classroom bc he cared about the school, not just the football team.

He didn’t get in bc of grades.
Someone (Loy?) mentioned that Walker Howard would've been in the 2022 class but he didn't take care of what he needed to do academically. I have no clue if that meant his grades tanked his Senior year or he didn't take the courses that were required to be admitted.

IDK, always seemed like he would end up at LSU

I believe it was Matt Freeman that explained what happened. That summer, Stepp was given the exact plan he need to follow to qualify and they found out late in the process that he never followed through.

Notre Dame's minimum requirements: A hard row to hoe for many high school athletes.

  • 4 units of English
  • 3 units of Mathematics - Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry (4 units preferred)*
  • 2 units of Foreign Language (3-4 units preferred)
  • 2 units of Science (4 units preferred)**
  • 2 units of History/Social Science (3-4 units preferred)
REALLY need to drop the second language thing for athletes. I believe that it was part of the Stepp problem as well.
... and we really need to at least somewhat get off the staff's back about who they should be recruiting unless we
really know about this stuff in detail with the recruit talked about.

People speculated that we lost Byron Marshall to Oregon because of the foreign language requirement, even though he also had an offer from Stanford.

If the staff is reading this forum, that’s their problem. None of us are directly contacting them telling them who to recruit.
