What was our points per game down the stretch?

I swear some how won’t be happy till Tommy offenses average 80 per game and even then will remember that one play call. You guys act like you get mad at a starting pitcher who didn’t throw 100 strikes in a game.

I disagree with the invective on *that* play call

It was play action with 3 reads on first down after they were getting gashed. The play call goes in before it’s clear that SC is hobbling up to the line, and it’s fully reasonable to believe that the defense would sell out to stop the run after that drive (see literally the next TD drive pass play call). When a QB is more senior maybe he changes the play at the line when he sees that the other team is barely set. But the play call itself is perfectly reasonable. OC shouldn’t call an exhibition game like he’s scared of his own QB.

EDIT: changed opening sentence to be more constructive.

45 points engineered. Over 250 yards rushing vs eight-in-the-box. All with a QB who also stopped two drives throwing pick six's.
Trying multiple gimmicks to settle that wild horse down. Apparently succeeding even at that.

Yeh. Terrible OC.

I just took a look at the box score and saw that ND ran 80 plays. Of those 80, I think Rees only called 2 poor plays, which is phenomenal. He was also tasked with putting together a game plan with an unproven QB who has accuracy and turnover issues. That ain't easy, and he got it done. Not to mention he didn't have 87 and ND's defense was atrocious for the first quarter and a half or so, which added even more to his plate. The game winning TD pass he dialed up was brilliant, and I don't think anyone saw it coming. He deserves a ton of credit.

Who ever the SC OC is, is he getting called brilliant and the next RAMs coach for the couple of wide open TE's touch downs they got. He is just an average OC and a horrid QB coach. Get over him.

On a podcast Goolsby said Rees coaches and calls games like he is auditioning for the NFL. I think that’s a pretty fair analysis. Too cute too often.
Tommy’s future is absolutely in the NFL, and that’s OK. He is wired to coach where it’s all ball, all the time and they’re pros who can pick up his elaborate ideas.

It's frustrating when people can't be content with an entertaining win. As if the only way to end up happy is if both coordinators call perfect games, every player is flawless in execution, and we win by 50.

Stop expecting perfection in every facet. It's silly and unrealistic. Rees did just fine imo.

Applause to my IE brothers who actually watch the entire game performance and realize that the other team has great athletes who themselves will make plays. In those awkward moments, any coach must depend upon HIS guy to do the right thing since he can no longer do it for him. Coach Tommy, glad we have you.

Unacceptable optimism!

So a not cute OC scores how many? 52? 59? 66?

Y’all realize every single playcaller you drool over Lebby, Briles, Sark, Riley, Heupel, Kiffin all of them their fans say the exact same thing at times?

Give him credit. No Mayer, TB coming in playing very little football for what...the last 3+ years really? If TB cleans up the 2 pick 6's we're looking at a final score of 52-24. It was a record setting bowl, back to back years with bowl records broken. It was a slow start, but a very dominant 2nd half on the ground. I like TB, but I think Hartman is still the guy if he comes. I think he's just more consistent. I'll back whoever is under center though.

It's the last pick 6 for me. 3 runs and go up by 10. Just not trusting the guy. Help us win.

So is it on Rees or Deland that Tyree was talking handoffs late in the game when it should have been Diggs or Estime?

All 3 running backs got carries on that last drive. Also, who caught that pass that picked up a 1st down in SC territory?

Do you really not know or is this rhetorical? You really gonna try and act like you weren't wondering why Tyree was back there at the time?

They are all about the same at play calling - but those other guys coach and recruit QB a lot better.

Really? Because in the last 6 months we could be looking at Rees getting commitments from Carr, Minchey, and a transfer possibly from Hartman.

When was the last time ND picked up a trio of talent like that in succession?

Coach, oh my lawd...we just scored 45 in a bowl game without our best weapon. GTFO.

Don't care, not Dante Moore, CJ will flip to Michigan, and he isn't getting two transfer QB's.

I’ll admit, I was…but then that third down playcall came and it made sense. The first two playcalls were made to potentially set up the third. While I’d not prefer for Tyree to get those carries in that spot, it worked out as the OC (I believe) intended.

What are you talking about? I'm the resident Rees sunshine pumper around here to counteract the negativity. I thought that was well known by this point?

Lebby, Sark, Riley and Heupel have all recruited QB better than that. A significant bit better.

I don't even feel like I am negative on Rees. He just has a strange number of lovers for a guy who has been average.
If Al Golden is still average 2 years from now he will be out the door and nobody will be blinking.

You’re playing devils advocate currently against the OC the night of a win in which we scored 45 points.

Yes I love 45 points. I self admittedly am a lover of that.
