I don't quite care that Miami went after Tommy Rees to be their next OC. I believe that Buchner is going to be very good, and indications right now point to ND leading for Dante Moore.

It’s gonna be really hard to function/recruit with the OC seemingly having one foot out the door.

But that's what part of worries me about the Rams, TBH. Rees lived in Manhattan Beach for awhile before he got into coaching. (Buddy of mine who lives there would occasionally see him around). That's easy to Inglewood. And it is decidedly a lifestyle upgrade from South Bend. Throw in the whole bit about not having your entire career boil down to kissing the ass of the right 17-year-old superstar...

I think Rees will ultimately leave for A) attractive NFL OC job or B) P5 HC job. That could ABSOLUTELY come next year or it could be 3 years. We don’t know when that is because I think he will be selective given his name continued to have some cache to it.

Do I think he’d take the Rams OC job? Absolutely. Will he be offered it? Probably not this year? In like 3 years? Sure he could. Same for 49ers and the other hot spots. But do I think he’d take like the Texans just because? Not so sure.

On the CFB side, his HC opportunity will be interesting. You’d think the academic inclined schools are obvious but he just missed that wave with Duke, Virginia, BC, and Vandy all recently hiring. Stanford, NW, Wake rather entrenched. He probably is more likely to get a lower Big Ten type job it’d think at this point. I can’t imagine him as a G5 type at all.

I think be it after 2022 or 2026 the opportunity will seem obvious once it comes. Just a matter of what dominoes get us there.

You took his comment significantly out of context.

You're saying it as if it's fact that ND doesn't lead for him, but Matt is clearly stating that he's not really sure where Moore stands with any school at this point.

That's a very different take than "ND doesn't lead", which gives the indication that somebody else does lead.

I respect Matt and ISD highly, but they're far from the only credible source for ND recruiting news and even they don't always have all the answers when it comes to every solitary recruitment.

John Kennedy at Always Irish is right, Freeman needs to be the one to land Moore and he is also right that Harbaugh is a space cadet.

This garbage again :ROFLMAO: Quite the exaggeration there, you're talkin' like we have a bunch of walk on scrubs on roster. Yeah, we're not Alabama but that doesn't mean we don't have "decent" talent here. Most teams don't have a 5 star QB on roster, and those that do probably have a better track record than we do in NY6 games or having successful NFL QB talent. The talent we do have is probably as good or better than we should tbh. Lets not forget that recruiting is completely subjective too. Half of Saban's 5 star talents haven't panned out. Just because you land a Blake Barnett doesn't mean they'll amount to anything.

lol fucking WHAT?! Buchner, Pyne, Angeli are better talent than we should have? We have exactly ONE high ceiling player and that's Buchner. We should have no less than two on the roster at all times. And that doesn't mean I need them to be a consensus 5 to think they qualify, but we sure as shit need to be doing better than Pyne and Angeli as the next man in...

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- if we want to take the next step, we need to do better than the following over a 4-year period:

* Clark
* Pyne
* Buchner
* Angeli

I don't think ND not leading for yet another QB is a positive. Especially since the Gattis departure sounds like it'll mean very little to Moore.

Apologies for sharing what ISD clarified both last night and on hinted at on this week's podcast though. If there was a positive update and it was a current topic here, I'd share.

I responded to "Right now it appears ND is leading for Moore" with "ND doesn't lead per ISD a few minutes ago". You're right though, there are other credible sources (Athletic, Tom Loy, etc.) but I'm only sharing what I have access to and was the latest of the latest. Sorry if I left my post short of the entire picture but I was only addressing what was stated with what I have access to, hence the "per ISD".

I don't think this needs to be a thing, lol. But I'll try to post some more positive stuff. It's awesome that the RB coach is passing on the Giants opportunity!

There was a time not that long ago that Rees was the next man in. Do you think every program in the country has a stable of 5 and high 4 star talent just waiting in the wings? We're not Oklahoma, do you know the last time one of our QBs won a Heisman? 1964! Most of us weren't even born yet. The last ND QB to do anything of major note in the NFL was Mirer who won Rookie of the Year...well before any of the current recruits were born. We aren't exactly QB U, your expectations are over the top. Maybe we can pull in another 5 star talent sometime in the future, I'm sure it'll happen at some point, but I wouldn't hold my breath. They're not knocking down our door, the good talent is going to go where there's recent history of success. You're looking at Alabama, tOSU, Oklahoma, Clemson, USC, etc. The talent we're getting is pretty appropriate for the metrics we've produced.

Teams that what to play in the playoffs do. I know we have beat around this bush before. We have to get better talent at the QB position end of story. Because it’s not like we are finding lower tier guys that have been developed. We can disagree about this all we want. The one thing we can all agree on is we aren’t getting good enough production for the QB position to win a natty!

The thing is ND could have had Allar who may be the best QB in this class. There are elite guys that may be interested, you just have to do your due diligence.

There have been way too many stories from the Kelly years of, "he may have been interested, ND just assumed he wasn't and didn't try." (This wasn't the issue with Allar, they just took too long with him). But Sneed would 100% have been one of those guys if not for Freeman. He turned the whole operation on its head.

Rick Mirer, Brady Quinn, Jimmy Claussen - we have had top tier college QBs. ND needs to hit the QB lottery if they want to take the next step, IMO.

Clemson wasn't the Clemson we know now until they got DWatson. All it takes is one guy to change the narrative.

Rees is one guy that I hope stays and if he were to leave I'd be slightly arsed about it.

He needs to get out there and find the trigger man to lead this offense to a championship. That guy is probably in the 2023 class and he needs to spearhead the siege to get that guy, whoever the hell he is, signed in December.
