Can someone give me a short rundown on what RESLIFE is? Do they hand out punishment or something like that?
Residence Life & Housing
They are prolly going to pwn his face as the kids say nowadays. Yes they'll hear the case and rule on his punishment, which could be expulsion from the University. They set a high standard, rightfully.
One thing I like here is that we have a tendency to look at ND as having a higher moral standard. Apparently that's all talk.
Posters stating good riddance, police abuse, mocking the two guys in this incident, and general stupidity are showing that we are no better than the other schools (OSU, Miami, USC, FSU) or people (Kiffin, Urban) that they enjoy mocking.
True colors

Some of these posts are pathetic, like stating that most cops abuse their power and act as bullies ....
Where's Clausen?
Couldn't agree more. This is a bad situation which was obviously the result of a few bad decisions, some of which may have been worse than others. But we have seen individuals deal with such mistakes and become better men because of it, and we can only hope it will happen here. Shame on all of you who celebrate the downfall of an individual because of a football team.
It's funny that some of the same fans who extoll Notre Dame as a family and the university players athletes should go to have the greatest care given to themselves and their education, yet you turn your back in a nonosecond because they weren't the players you wanted on the field? Tommy (and seemingly to a lesser extent Carlo) made a huge, stupid mistake, one that he will have to deal with the repercussions of for a long time. He deserves to be punished and he will. He absolutely does not deserve fans celebrating his demise. It is insane to me how quickly and completely people can lose perspective.
Res life is the place you go to when you get in pretty big trouble. Students will talk about how they got lucky not getting "Res-lifed". Usually to get kicked out of a dorm you have to have about 3 or so. Reslife is also the body that suspends you a semester if you're caught with pot, no exceptions.
Tommy can expect a hearing or two, but I have no idea what kind of punishment he'll get from them because I personally don't know anyone who has done something like this.
This is definitely bringing out the idiots in our fan base. What Tommy is accused of is terrible. No doubt. The fact that any of our fans could be remotely happy about this situation is a totally f'ed. I can't even wrap my head around it.
Can we just get the legal drinking age reduced to 18 in this country to avoid these college incidents? Old enough to die for this country, old enough to drink.
No!
I respect every man and woman who fights for this country. Being a soldier and having the ability to get sh!t faced at 18 have nothing to do with each other.

back on topic.... Reese is only being charged with 4 misdameanors. therefore his expulsion from ND is not so imminent afterall. however I would imagine that he sees some serious disciplinary action from both school and CBK.
Tell me officer as I recall you're from Denver. Have you responded to a call about a party and walked in demanding, "Where's Manning?"
I seriously doubt it but the South Bend Police raided a SB party wanting Clausen to be pointed out.
BTW, Clausen wasn't there. And there was no imformation that he had been there.
You've got much to learn about the SBPD.
By disclosure, I have two nephews who wear blue for a living, one's a captain the other a sargeant. I have friends who have been injured on the job. I'm personal friend's with a former ND football player who wears blue as does his sister, and brother-in-law, and whose father was a 30 year man. He's been injured on the job and shot an assilant saving his partner's life. I also have a cousin who turned in her badge in that same police force rather than lie for her partner who abused a suspect in custody. I hold all of them in high regard except for the beater.
Abuse of power happens in all profession, teachers, cops, the clergy, judges, cab drivers, whatever and that's not an indictment of all.
Many people in this thread asked for people to wait for the facts. Due process. It's a hallmark of our justice system. Sadly it was forgotten by too many on Thursday.
I know some will get upset with this, and i don' t know if it's been said before so forgive me if it has. No matter who you are you got to find it a little humerous that of the four or five guys that ran from the party Tommy was the only ran down and caught. Thank God we have 3 dual threat qbs in the stable because we won't have to worry about this with them. I'm not a Tommy fan, but don't wish bad on anyone. However when you do stupid stuff as we all have you should get called out for it.
Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP)
I ask that some of you take a look at this site and read some stories of officers that have been killed in the line of duty.
What does this have to do with the topic? Things that officers have encountered and that have led to their deaths have altered how police academies are taught throughout the country. The things we are taught are to prevent us from ending up on that site.
Is it an excuse? Absolutely not. All police should demonstrate professionalism at all times, regardless of age. Are there bad apples? Just as in any other job, no different for us. Do some abuse their power? Yes and they should be stripped of their badge and their powers.
From my friends who are police, the instructors who taught us at the academy that have been police for 20-30 plus years and have been in gun fights in some scary neighborhoods, guys that I work with..one of the most dangerous things a cop has to do is a routine traffic stop. Something you might think is simple or easy, is really a scary situation. You catch a guy speeding or running a light so you pull him over, next thing you know there is a gun sitting in the backseat, a shotgun in the passenger seat, etc.
This isn't me trying to back the SBPD. I just want some of you to take a few minutes and think about the other side of the line.
Yeah, you may just be kids having fun, being kids but think about a guy in his mid-30's who has never seen you or any of your friends before in his life. His experience and his training has shaped him coming into these situations. Doesn't mean he should stop being professional.
I really hope he gets to, at the very minimum, finish his education and receive the ND degree.
We are losing our focus here people. There are two things that are important and we must create a team to investigate.
1) who was the neighbor that called the police
2) name of the taxi cab driver
LOL
And the odds of encounting any of this at an off campus ND party might be less than zero (yes it is possible as illustrated somewhere in Einstein's Theory of Relativity, OMM can probably explain). Thus the ridiculousness of going ape sh!t on ND students. People here are not doubting the danger of police work, just pointing out that SBPD would club an ND student before a baby seal, no hesitation. The treat is like some type of therapy or job perk. "Yeah, I put up with a lot of crap but I get to harrass the p!ss out of those prick, yuppy, entitled, silver spoon ND students."
I don't know many cops who live much more than a middle class existence. They are not living in gated communities and McMansions. If you don't think there is some class envy running through there, well I have to disagree. What I see is the same thing illustrated in your posts, "damn it you better respect me because I have a badge!"
Go watch Super Troopers and relax a bit. Everything stated is not an assault on the honor of all police, firemen, military that ever lived.
