Gus Johnson is the man. The old timers would sh!t. I'm sure they would send certified letters to get rid of him lol.

Nobody does excitement like Gus Johnson. He makes every game more enjoyable for me. I even have made my wife become a fan of his...she knows immediately when he's calling a game. The guy is simply the best at making every moment a 'moment'. I've listened to him interviewed several times, and he genuinely LOVES what he's doing and it comes across the air in every game he does.

It'll never happen (too many ND fans don't like change - just the mere mention of a jumbotron throws some ND fans into fits of rage; imagine if we hired Gus Johnson??? People would literally keel over), but man, it would be friggin sweet if it ever did...

Gus Johnson would be the opposite extreme of our current setup. We all talk about the coup it is to be on national TV every single Saturday, but the reality is that we don't come close to maximizing this opportunity because it is so damn boring to listen to Hammond. Can't help but also feel like they go out of their way to not be ND-centric, and that they sometimes go overboard in this regard. I'm all for balance, but for crying out loud let's at least make sure our ND guys are getting their full due.

Just anyone but Hammond. I have sat next to B level guys doing NCAA lacrosse playoff games who are 10x the play-by-play of Hammond. And in sports they don't understand. I'm talking converted hockey guys and things like that. It's inexcusable that we have someone as bad as Hammond doing play-by-play.

I would LOVE to get someone like Gus Johnson. But even some B-level guy like Joe Beninati would likely be an upgrade.

We have to stop worrying about these people. As much as they might mean well and their hearts may be in the right place, they are fighting a misguided battle against modernization that is holding back the program they claim to love. Bring on field turf, bring on a video board, and bring on Gus Johnson. None of those things undermine any serious tradition (which is important). It is just updating the outdated things around the program. Outdated is not synonymous with tradition.
