Tirico isn't bad. He even seem to give Flutie some pushback when Flutie was making his over hype comments about UGA and at times dismissive ones about ND. A few times excitement shined thru in his play call when UGA made a play, and it should. He does the same for ND. The problem was Saturday there weren't enough ND positives.

Are the roles set in who is supposed to be neutral and who is supposed to be ND? Like the color guy is supposed to be neutral/rival and play by play can be pro-ND? Because I wouldn't mind having Tirico be the neutral guy, because he really doesn't have a horse in the race, and bring in a pro-ND color guy (cough*Brady Quinn*cough)

People who complain about Hammonds & Haden are reasons you end up with Hicks and Flutie.

When it was Tommy, Mayock and Dear Sweet Alex, ya'll should have just STFU and realized that was as good as it gets.

Now you got Flutie scratching his damn finger nails down the chalk board every time Tirico talks. As my grandma says, "It's plum ruint!"

Not until those evil Protestants from the north invade South Bend next November.

And as much as i like Brady, Aaron Taylor is SOO smooth. (tweet below).

Mayock's better than both and as the voice of the NFL Draft Combine... a HUGE recruiting tool.

Don't need my head examined. I think they both had obvious slants against ND. But hey thats just my opinion.
I would actually enjoy a commentary free broadcast over anything. Just give me the stadium announcer and crowd noise. They actually have this option for some soccer broadcasts.

Believe me, I have considered it, kind of speaks to the sad state of affairs that is the ND tv broadcast.

If Tirico is driving you nuts, you're in trouble amigo.

Hawk Harrelson lives in Michiana, nobody calls a homer game like ole Hawk.

Oh man, could you just imagine Hawk doing the call.

It's really the whole broadcast not just the commentary. Maybe tirico would not seem slanted if floatie wasn't there. Btw tirico did coin the name floatie during the temple broadcast so that's what I call him now. I guess that's a tirico positive.

You can listen to Criqui and Pinkett call the game on Sirius/XM on the Catholic Channel.

If you have a DVR or HD receiver you can adjust the TV to match the audio feed.

It can be done.

The problem is that Criqui getting 3 out of 4 names wrong, and citing the wrong down and distance at least twice per drive, might be worse than putting up with Flutie.

When do you listen to Criqui, seriously? I find that to be wild exaggeration. I listened to two games on the road last year and Criqui sounded like the good old days of him and Trumpy calling Bengals / Browns / Steelers games. His voice sounds like football to me.

But go ahead and throw him under the bus like Hammonds and you'll get the radio equivalent of Dan 'the mortician' Hicks to replace him.

It was internet hyperbole, but I put the first game every year on the radio, and occasionally another game at some point if I'm feeling extra annoyed by NBC.

I didn't listen to the Texas call on the radio in '15, but every other year since '11, I feel like there are more errors in names, yardline calls, and down-and-distance.

And for the record, my criticism of Criqui is with love, unlike my feelings with Flutie. Like you said, Criqui at least sounds like football. It's more of "the lovable old guy makes some mistakes, but what're you gonna do?"

That Georgia broadcast was awful. Tirico sucks as well. They literally praised the Georgia qb for being sacked, instead of saying what a good defensive play it was. And the excitement in tiricos voice after the fumble to end the game "ballgame!" Its really painful to watch and listen.

It was objectively a big play to end the game. I don't know what you wanted from him. To be sad for ND?

Tirico is one of the top 3 best play by play guys in the business. If you're unhappy with him, you probably won't like anyone.

To be fair, anyone that calls the game on radio pales in comparison to Tony Roberts. What a boneheaded move to remove him:

OK but like it's this stuff that makes people think ND fans are crazy. It's an impartial broadcast, and Tirico is a top 5 play-by-play guy. You're mad he approached a big play with enthusiasm?

It's not a big deal and you're obviously entitled to your opinion but IMO Tirico has been a HUGE upgrade.

I pointed to two things that I didn't like, you have chosen to focus on one, but that's cool, I also said it was the entire broadcast and not just commentary. You think I make notre Dame fans look crazy? Go check out the people talking about who the interim coach will be after this week. Lol.

I would rather have Hammonds verbally coach me through a 30 minute whack off session than listen to Flutie call one more play for NBC. Just sayin'

Hammond and Flutie shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Tommy was always upbeat and gave me the feeling that he worked for the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company.

Flutie is a bum. Sounds like he's still pissed ND didn't want him, forcing him to play for Little Sisters of the Poor.

I would never call Flutie a bum. He had a great career and was a trooper when he lost both his parents - the same day (not gameday) - and still did the game at Fenway (was there) and got to meet him.

Tirico is really good. Probably the best we can expect, but I still dream of Doc Emrick with Brady Quinn doing color.
