Hicks was boring, Tirico is a huge upgrade. But Flutie needs to be the focus. I don't even buy into the "he hates ND" crowd, he's just a shit color commentator.

Totally agree with this. I don't get the anti-ND vibe from Flutie that others seem to have. He's just not good at what he does in general.

Mike Tirico raised the entire quality of the NBC broadcast yesterday. Even Flutie was serviceable when paired with him.

Uhmm no. Flutie mentions Wimbush should stop taking hits not once, not twice, but so many times that in the fourth quarter I tell Flutie to shut up he made his point a long time ago.

I meant comparatively of course. Flutie is still bad.

Tirico was outstanding, yesterday. He pronounced "Tagovaiola-Amosa" perfectly. A Tirico/Mayock pairing would be a dream broadcast team.

I probably tell Flutie to shut up at least 5 times per game. I can't understand why he endures as an ND broadcaster.

The obvious answer is because many people probably tune in to see Notre Dame fail, as much as they tune in to see them succeed. So instead of having a homer in the booth, they put someone that will constantly point out the flaws of ND and the good points of the other team to appease those viewers. Hate it, but I guess it's something we have to deal with because we have that sweet deal with NBC for television that we can't pass up.

Tirico is a pleasure and a real pro you can tell its painful for Flutie to adjust to Notre Dame in any positive manner----he's pretty bad.

Flutie makes me mute the TV at the start of the 2nd quarter. There are very few things I love more than watching the Irish on Saturdays, and this asshat just takes the fun out of it. End up muting and listening to a Bill Burr podcast while watching lol. But no one is more infuriating to listen to than Flutie.

What % of the viewership do you think want to see ND lose? I'd say it's less than 15%, but then again that's based on nothing. Notre Dame is on NBC, their golden child. They should be treated as such. That's my $0.02.

I've been here for awhile. Id love it if they went full ND infomercial. They already lean that way with the fighting for segments and the graphics, just embrace it.

Tirico really is good, I was thinking the same myself. He does his homework, and has a great knowledge of the game. Flutie mails it in, he's absolutely awful.

You don't think Flutie cares about it? Is that what you mean by "mails it in"?

I think he really detests ND and if not, he has latent subconscious resentment because it's difficult for him to be complementary when ND is rocking. And when ND is failing or having difficulties against an opponent, he's practically salivating on the mic. His excitement level continues to rise and it's transmitted loud and clear.

I think two analysts like Mike Tirico would be perfect. It's a shame we can't find someone who is objective to work alongside Tirico because the man is amazing. I'm so happy NBC brought him on for ND. I hope we sign him to a long term deal, he actually adds to the enjoyment of the game.

Flutie detracts so we are still, at best, breaking even.

Tirico pays attention to the little details. He obviously does his homework as far as the pronunciation of names and he has a good handle on the roster spots and production. He has a high football IQ too. Flutie's football knowledge is fine, but it doesn't feel like he's prepared, hence mails it in. I think you're probably right though, maybe on a subconscious level he detests or dislikes ND and that affects his broadcast. I think of all the commentators from rivals that have called our games, Haden was probably the most level.

Haden filled the neutral role that ND and NBC setup when the contract was first signed better than any of the other "rivals".

That Georgia broadcast was awful. Tirico sucks as well. They literally praised the Georgia qb for being sacked, instead of saying what a good defensive play it was. And the excitement in tiricos voice after the fumble to end the game "ballgame!" Its really painful to watch and listen.

That is exactly how he calls any big play. Better than Hicks who sounded like it was a great golf shot, instead of, well, anything.

Why Flutie gets the color job is beyond me, but it is probably a reflection of how much or how little NBC actually cares about the ND product that they cannot get anyone else to do games, for them.

So the play by play does his job the right way and he sucks because of it?

Tirico doesn't suck. ND's offense sucks. And it makes you think twice about everything else. The Flutie despise is warranted, but Tirico is literally the 1st person I'd choose for our broadcasts.

From my perspective, you can tell how respectful he is to the university and its mission while at the same time really adding to the excitement of the game. He and Mayock would be amazing

Flutie did his "get really quiet when ND does something good" thing several times early in the Georgia game.

There were two obvious instances of "dead air" that are supposed to be filled by the color guy after the play-by-play has finished his call. Flutie just left it silent... as he so often does when ND does something good, and he has nothing negative to point out or a positive for the other team.

He STRUGGLES to say good things about ND. He even had to correct himself two or three times on the broadcast trying to call out mistakes/penalties that ND got away with, and then had to backtrack when the replay revealed his hopes/bias.

The worst was when UGA would get a 15-yarder, he'd question it, but when ND got their crucial late-hit call, Flutie immediately went to "ND benefitted earlier! They deserve this!"

I'd note specific times, but I don't feel like watching the UGA replay again.
