My early thoughts this morning. My main questions are Flanagan's and Botehlo's health, Traore's ability to be the big DE (I guess flip him and Burnham), the backup corners (Hobbs is probably the true CB3 for the outside), and who actually comes back from the offensive line.

Disagree, I think Angeli could very well be another Jack Coan. Clearly your take already shows how underappreciated he is, step 1 in becoming the next Jack.
It’s possible we can make the playoffs with Angeli but there’s no way we’re winning the title. I wanna win the title.

QB1 by team:

Sayin
Stockton (?)
Dante Moore
Manning
Allar
Mack/Simpson
Klubnik
Nussmeier
Simmons
Nico
Marcel Reed
Underwood (?)

Questions there but there’s a lot of highly rated talent amongst contenders. 2025 will not a transfer QB season. The average recruit ranking there has to be like .96. If ND expects to contend with this list, you likely need your guy that fits: CJ Carr

I assume Stockton for UGA and the Fresno kid for Michigan. Uninspiring to me outside of Klubnik.

I think your prediction is highly likely. Gonna have to see who transfers now and at the end of Spring. There’s gonna be some really good players that are not starting at some positions (OL,RB,WR,LB). Will all those guys stick around? Probably not.

I'll take it back Angeli might be good enough to make the playoffs but we aren't winning a title with him only way I'd be okay with him is if we had Ohio States WR's on our roster which we don't

Really going out on a limb with that QB pick.

Safety depth is a concern, but wouldnt be surprised if you see one of the freshmen or Tae take a big step there. I don't like the idea of Urlacher / Talich being out there against any QB with a pulse.

If Traore and Bryce take the step that we think they can and Stroman isnt a bust, this defense will be better than this year.

6 of the top 7 in odds to win it all next year will be breaking in new starting QBs.

The only 2 teams I look at next year that I think inherently should have better odds than ND are Oregon and Texas. OSU is replacing their entire defense and half their offense. They ain’t repeating. PSU is laughable with what they’re replacing and lacking. ND should be same odds as Bama IMO

Joint to miss the transfers who have to leave. They all contributed and wish we could have got the WRs more touches. Minus too many drops by Collins they caught well and blocked well.

Need some real bulk at DL. Would like to see some more Urlacher and Talich on first down as both seem like good run support players and sure tacklers. Would like to see another corner step up and challenge Grey for some PT. Grey while making some big plays is too easily beaten or called for holding. He’s just too small against big RBs.

I hope last night was a sobering realization for Marcus and staff. Defensive line needs to be upgraded. I understand there were injuries and our backups played admirably. They are just not able to stand out against the very best teams. Wide receiver I am much more hopeful for. Greathouse and Faison really turned it on. Hopefully Fields can be a big boost as well. QB will be huge. The staff has to do everything in their power to get Carr ready to go. He's the most talented. He has the ability to win a national championship.

Don't want to start and argument but what is everyone basing future success factors off of? How does anyone know what Carr, SA, or KM brings to the table. I know there are blatant differences in style but we haven't seen much or anything from anyone other than SA. I trust the coaches know what they are doing and pick the QB that is best for the job ahead.

Your kinda glossing over this point. There isn't a team in the country that would look the same losing 3 starters on on the defensive line and a 4th playing on 1 leg.

What does this game look like if we have Mills, Botelho, Traore, and a healthy Cross? Then they don't have Sawyer, JTT, 1 starter at DT, and the other is hobbled.

I think Freeman will learn from last night as he’s learned from a lot of things in only 3 years. But sobering is not the right word. It implies Freeman didn’t take DL roster building serious enough or thought we were better than we were. I disagree if that is the sentiment you take away

I’ll always wonder ‘what could have been’ given the injuries, especially to the defense. I mean, the defense lost arguably their 2 top players (Mills and BenMo) along with a 3rd starter (Bothelo) and 2 absolutely key backups (Traore and Onye*). The defensive line was decimated!

*I know Onye wasn’t injured, but a loss nonetheless.

Our scheme got simpler as we got more injured, in addition to the obvious talent drain

I agree, that’s what I’m afraid of. Would prefer more mobility and athleticism than Jack “the human traffic” Cone.

My real prediction is spicier and that its a grad transfer who doesn't need a starting role after both Minchey and Angeli transfer, but I didn't really want to pick transfers yet.

The hardest the thing to figure next year will be the o-line. Will Jag be a tackle or guard? Do you roll with Lambert? What do you do with Knapp? Is Rocco back? If Coogan leaves and Craig isnt 100%, what do you do at center?

Wouldn't a transfer need to be after spring at this point? I doubt the coaches want to do that again.

If Carr moves to the front of the line this spring, ND might be looking at a backup QB battle between Anthony Rezac and Hebert. I think he's predicting that happens and they will need to add a guy for depth.
