Just got underway.... apologies if there is already a thread out there for the trial but I didn't see it.....

Almost all of the jurors have ties to Penn State, which is interesting. One potential juror donated to Second Mile and tried to hide that in order to get placed on the jury.... but the prosecution uncovered it and had him stricken.

Going to be very interesting to watch this play out. I think there's at least a fighting chance he might walk or at least win on some counts.

Opening arguments by the prosecution had a slideshow showing pictures of the victims as kids to the jury

Apparently the defense will go with a "smear the kids credibility" defense.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!

The prosecutor better get this right. That sicko Sandusky will get his justice from the other prisoners.

Haha I was waiting for someone to post this. For real though, Sandusky's lawyer is going to pull out all the stops, just like Casey Anthony's did.

I agree with Lax... there's a fighting chance he could walk or get some counts removed, as strong as the evidence has appeared to be notwithstanding.

Something everyone may want to consider is the statute of limitations. I'm not sure what it is for this kind of offense in Pa. Hopefully, someone with legal experience can enlighten me on how this all works.

Certain offenses don't have limitations and I believe abuse of kids is 1 of them

With 52 counts, seems like the Prosecution is trying to be sure there are enough charges for at least some of them to stick. That's a lot to overcome to come away "not guilty".

This is what I found doing a little research:

Pennsylvania

Civil Statute of Limitations

Delayed Tolling for Minors; Twelve-Year Statute of Limitations for Childhood Sexual Abuse : Victims who were minors when the abuse occurred have twelve years from their 18th birthday to bring a civil action regardless of whether or not the victim brings a criminal proceeding as well.

No Discovery Statute for Repressed Memories : The courts will not toll the statute of limitations in childhood sexual abuse cases regardless of the victim’s inability to bring suit due to repressed memories. The Court reasoned that the discovery statute is for when “the injury is not readily discernible as opposed to cases where it is the incapacity of the plaintiff which causes the delay in bringing suit.”

No Retroactivity for Previously Time-Barred Claims : The statute will not revive any claim which has been barred by a prior existing statute of limitations.

Criminal Statute of Limitations

Statute of Limitations for Childhood Sexual Abuse Charges End When the Minor Victim Turns 50 : Prosecution of childhood sexual abuse charges must be commenced before the minor victim turns 50 years old.

DNA Exception : If a DNA test can identify an otherwise unidentifiable perpetrator, prosecution may be commenced within the previously stated statute of limitations, or one year after the identity of the perpetrator is discovered, whichever is later.

Child Abuse Statute of Limitations for each State in the United States

If this is the case, there shouldn't be a problem with a majority (if not all ) of the charges sticking.

If the limitation had run out the D.A. would have been barred from proceeding. And if he dud the defense would have filed a motion and there would have been no trial.

I believe the only crime that has no statue of limitations is murder.

I also have a feeling that some pretty bad details will come from this trial, I dont think Ill follow any of it except for the verdict.

After reading about the first witness' testimony, I wish Chris Partlow was a real person because he knew how to treat child molesters.

This is from Wetzel's article on Yahoo Sports (Jerry Sandusky trial's first witness confidently testifies about repeated sexual molestation - Yahoo! Sports)

In the article, Wetzel almost makes Amendola sound like Brad Pitt's character in the movie Sleepers (a "good" lawyer asking all the wrong questions).

Victim No. 4 just shook his head and dismissed the suggestion that anything positive could be gleaned from the description.

"He treated me like a son in front of other people," the witness said, sternly, with an air of scolding toward the defense attorney.

"Aside from that, he treated me like his girlfriend."

As gasps were audibly heard in the courtroom for a line straight off a movie script, Amendola paused, shuffled his notes and kept fumbling as the witness maintained his steely posture.

Unless the defense has a plan to later recall the witness and catch him in multiple lies, there were almost no positives to the day for Sandusky. It was a bludgeoning, as if the witness had been waiting 15 years to rain down these stories on his alleged perpetrator and wasn't going to miss a single opportunity to go for the throat.

I talked with someone last week who went to church with Sandusky. This person know his wife, Sandusky and went to go school with one of his sons. She also use to work with Amendolara. This person told me she thinks the victims are going after Sandusky because they want money and make him look bad. Anyway she thinks Sandusky is innocent and she would let her teen age son hang out with him. McQueary is such a coward. i think Spainer will be prosecuted.

This is the sh*t that scares me. All Sandusky needs is one delusional supporter on that jury and he might walk.

Bingo Lax. They are some Jurors for the Trial that have ties to Penn State. One juror husband worked with McQueary's father. Another juror was a professor at PSU. I believe another one just graduated from PSU. If he is found not guilty. I expect a major civil lawsuit against him.

Thankfully civil lawsuits don't have to be proven to be 100%.

I can't believe they let PSU people on the jury. Interesting.

It's very hard to listen to the news when they describe what the victims are saying.

Besides convicting this POS Sandusky, there needs to be some charges brought against the people who allowed this to go on for so long.

I don't understand why there being PSU "people" on the jury is seen as a bad thing. This isn't Paterno on trial. PSU's reputation will suffer far more if people loyal to the school mail in their civic duty as jurors and let a sexual predator off than it would if this generally obscure assistant coach is convicted.

As far as some lady in the community proclaiming her belief in Sandusky's innocence, there are definitely people who would prefer to close their eyes and plug their ears and go on pretending like nothing like that could happen at Penn State, but those people are not forced to sit in the court room and listen to all the testimony and look at all the evidence. If that same women was forced to see and hear all the evidence, she would probably feel differently. Also, sometimes people troll in real life and say dumb sh!t because they enjoy annoying people, so maybe that is what that lady was up to.

Actually.....
