Is the Wake Forrest guy any good at recruiting?
Don't think he can be much more inconsistent with QB recruiting than Tommy boy. He has done well with Newman and Hartman and it'll be easier to recruit better prospects at ND.

Phil Longo, the UNC OC, appears to be a very good recruiter/talent evaluator. He was the primary recruiter for Matt Corral and Drake Maye.

Seriously?! No one posting here after todays bowl of cold oatmeal offensive game plan? What a joke. 6-6 would be a blessing but only if it comes with this loser Rees packing up his shit and leaving. Rees needs to take Pyne with him if he wants a buyout.

Fuck Tommy Rees.
Yikes! I want to be shocked but I’m actually consoled that someone concisely grasped my feelings in the matter. He has milked ND like only Charlie Weiss could. Kelly is over at LSU beating the shit out of undefeated Ole Miss #7. He looks like a Fn genius right now. As if he set up ND to go thru this with MF and TR so he can be sorely missed. Guess what? It worked!!!! Now you know why adults make the decisions and the inmates don’t run the asylum.

If only he was as good at recruiting, evaluating, and developing QB's as he was at running away from cops.

Hopefully there's no "thrashing around and resisting" when he gets fired at the end of the season.

Who is responsible for the fact that Pyne has to be the QB? Rees

Who is responsible for the fact that Pyne continues to be the QB? Rees

That's enough evidence to support tar and feathering him and then banishing him from the state of Indiana.

Play calling, remarkably, is the least of his sins at this point.

Is anyone else game enough to admit they don't have a clue what is a good play call or not except if it works?

Yes

The kid needs to see the field to grow because Pyne isn't going to cut it next season when Buchner is hurt again and we didn't bring in a grad transfer.

I'm not an offensive coordinator but when I see a receiver running wide open into the end zone and the QB, with no pressure on him or anything, just throws it way over his head, I'm going to consider that a good play call, even if it doesn't work because of poor execution.

What is this office any different than the last three games? It’s still the same boring shit.

Who else is he supposed to play? Not a lot of other options at the moment. Angeli I guess but...
That’s part of the problem. Looking at the QB depth and deciding fragile and inexperienced Buchner and Pyne were enough. His ability to evaluate high school QBs is awful.

Fast forward to now, he can’t even design a simple game plan for Angeli who is now 1 play away from starting. It’s the fact he watches the same Pyne game in and game out that we do and still doesn’t give Angeli a series.

He trusted Mitchell Evans to take a snap near the goal line instead of the 4* QB he recruited.

Brian Kelly and his quarterback Jayden Daniels just posted over 45 points on Ole Miss. At the end of the game they hugged and seem very happy.

Why can’t Tommy Rees do this?

I actually believe he may do well in the NFL. He’s not a perfect play caller but I don’t think he is that bad at play calling. His evaluation of QBs and stubbornness to play Angeli a series every once in awhile is a whole different topic.

Refusing to bring in JT Daniels was this seasons death sentence.

This isn’t the game to call for Rees’ head. The gameplan was there.
Given the known limitations of his QB was it really?

A good play call is putting your players into a situation where they can execute the play consistently based on your assessment of their athletic ability.

Unfortunately, running plays that ask Pyne to go through progressions and make plays from the pocket with his arm are more often than not a bad call because he is really bad at it.

I don’t care if he gets an A for playcalling and an A for game planning. He gets an F for recruiting and an F for development and in college, those matter more.

Targets:

Mayer + Lenzy = 17

Styles + Merriweather + Jayden = 7

I don't think it was Kellly holding Rees back, it was Kelly making this offense look somewhat functional. Rees on his own is train wreck with no offensive identity or rhythm.

I can't remember if Bo Nix was an option for us but I watched one Oregon possession of that game today and he made two or three passes I haven't seen anyone in a gold helmet make this season. (or, frankly, since Kizer was around)

And don’t forget his lack of height. How many more tipped passes and/or ints are we going to see because he can’t see over the line or throw over it? His passes are often tipped on 3rd and 4. I just wish he would decide to go into the portal tonight. Problem is no D1 school would pick him up. But don’t forget, he knows the playbook!

To be fair one could say Brian Kelly, in leaving Notre Dame, destroyed two top 10 teams.
Jack did. Fickell would have this program humming.

Tommy would not be here and Freeman would be where he belongs, coaching the defense. Also, he would’ve taken one look at our shit quarterback room and brought in a transfer. Perhaps Hartline would be the offensive coordinator? I’d like our recruiting under that regime.

Do you mean two top 10 teams because he outscored #7 Miss 42-3 after the second quarter? Didn’t see one slow guy on defense either. SEC speed = no JD Kiser or Bo.
