Yeah and The Dark Knight didn't win any Academy Awards.

Eight nominations, two wins. Haters gon hate.

So your going to put the dark knight movies with the godfather 1 and 2??? You are going to Put it with the star wars trilogy.......a staple in American culture by a guy on a shoe strong budget who created that total universe? Lord of the rings??? A staple in western civilization???

Dude simply redid a franchise that had already been done quite well.....in the nineties. He just had new technology to make it bigger and better. Really, some of you batman fans are funny. No wonder rotten tomatoes had to stop the comments section because people who didn't like it were being threatened.

By the way, I thought the original superman was done very well and thought this new one was also just a money grab as well. Which is what this is.

I disagree. Nolan took an entire genre that used to be shallow on the character development and gave it unheard of grittiness and humanity. He made real directors feel confident about venturing into superhero movies.

That said, I still thought that TDKR was rushed and that they should have cut 1/3 of the tangential plots out to really development the main plot. Nolan directed that with the fervor of Inception (an all-time classic) but it was a swing and a miss.

Sir, I'm one of the biggest star wars fans out there... but, let's be real. The plot to star wars is so linear, the acting is nothing special. And overall it is just a space western. Hardly any originality to the movies skeleton. Lucas just did a good job covering the skeleton with fun/inspirational sci-fi technology. Which caused me like many others to fall in love with it.

Ps.
Lucas is not even in the same league as Nolan. Not even close.

On their merits... Batman Begins > New Hope (I didn't think New Hope was very good but thats just me). Slight edge to Dark Knight over Empire Strikes Back.... Joker was an all time great character. And Dark Knight Rises>Return of the Jedi. QED.

I'm not sure if I'm going to see this one or not. I fount DK to be long and laborious to watch.
Listening to Bales Batman voice is downright funny though so I might rent it.

These are great action film guys, I would put them with the first two superman movies and raiders of the lose ark.

BTW- Superman would kick Batman ***!! ;)

These movies are just way over the top. I mean, they are comic book characters people.

The Godfather? Lord of the rings? The Star Wars trilogy? Those movies won Academy awards. They are part of americana.

This Batman trilogy? More along the lines of the Transformers trilogy.

BTW comic book heroes part of Americana also.

Your post insinuated that The Dark Knight wasn't of Oscar-quality, which in terms of its nominations and wins is just not true. It won two Oscars, was nominated for eight. I wasn't picking a fight with you. Just showing you that your initial argument is flawed and without factual grounds. The point you are trying to make does not hold water.

Godfather 1 and 2 are American classics, and two of my favorite movies. III is terrible. People have different tastes. Just so you know, I think Godfather 1 and 2 are better movies than Begins, TDK, and TDK Rises. But that doesn't mean I don't love the new Batman trilogy.

Dude simply redid a franchise that had already been done quite well.....in the nineties. He just had new technology to make it bigger and better. Did he redo a franchise? Yes. Was the original done quite well? Debatable. Batman and Batman Returns were very good and above average, respectively. Forever and Batman and Robin? Steaming piles of doo-doo. The Batman character deserved a better, more authentic story, one that was based in the lore of the comics. One that lets it's fans see in motion picture what Detective Comics and Batman issues have been bringing to life since 1939.

These movies are nothing like the TV series. Now that's Batman.

And where the heck is Robin???

You clearly have never read the comics. Might I suggest Year One and The Long Halloween
. The TV show nearly ruined the Batman franchise, it was cancelled after 3 years because the camp got old quick.

I lived it, saw it at midnight at The Arclight. Not as good as The Dark Knight but better than Batman Begins. I loved how it focused on Gordon and Gotham PD, showing that there are heroes in the city outside of Batman. Catwoman was great, and I hhad my doubts going in. Bane was great. Miranda Tate was bland, and Cotillard is certainly capable of better but I understand why she was included. Wish John Blake would have been named Dick Grayson at the end instead of Robin but oh well.

The audience was great too. The fans interacted without being distracting. Big pops when Batman returns and the fire is lit on the building, big pop for the Robin reveal. big pop for Johnathan Cane coming back as a judge.Big pop when the cops are about to be shot at and Batman swoops in on the bat to take out the tumblers.

Darkmovie but fun as a Batman fan. Yes there are flaws but it was a perfect sendoff.

If you go back and watch the Tim Burton Batman it doesn't hold up well. It is actually pretty weak. Maybe it captures some of the campy-ness of the TV show... but anyone of us that enjoyed the Frank Miller version of the Dark Knight finally got "our" batman with the Nolan Trilogy. And yes, you can't compare GodFather 1 or 2 with these movies per se. The Godfather films are perfect. Absolute masterpieces. But Nolan's trilogy is pretty amazing in terms of cinematic achievement.

You have no idea how happy I am that someone else on this board has read and knows what Batman the Long Haloween is. I loved the movie I thought this was an amazing trilogy and it has deseated the original star wars as my favorite. I think Dark Knight was still better but I really loved this movie. Also is there any place where I can get a Hines Ward Gotham City football jearsey?

I grew up loving Batman and Nightwing. I have so many of the old comics. Dark Victory, The Killing Joke, The Cult, A Serious House on Serious Earth, Death in the Family. One thing I hated was the John Blake just knowing Bruce is Batman. That was weak. I was hoping that when John said Gordon needs the bat, Bruce would have turned around and said something like, that's not me anymore Dick. I would have lost my ****.

Also I think Under Armour is selling Gotham Rogues gear.

Im a total nerd between me and my fiance we have so many comics its ridiculous. I wouldve also loved my **** if john Blake's real name wouldve been Dick or Grayson or something like that. I havent read dark victory yet, killing joke was great, I like serious house on serious earth but daaaamn is it messed up. I wasnt as big of a fan of Dark Knight Returns as most comic fans are but other than year one Im not as big of a Frank Miller fan as most comic fans are. Im hoping Nolan can make Superman a good movie franchise again. I also hope that if they somehow pull off a Justice League movie that they can get a director to make it work.

Yeah I was really happy they included it. It's pretty famous and it was expected, but it was really cool when it actually happened.

In my opinion batman begins was the best batman film of the three....

That scene is almost exactly like that last page of the knightfall series....it was a beautiful thing to watch. Yet sad at the same time lol

Justice league would be so cheesey. Can you imagine real actors in costumes sitting at a Hall of Justice? lol

I always pulled for the Legion of Doom anyway. They were the underdogs. The League had this nice, big, beautiful hall and everything while the Legion had this dump in the swamp.

Some of the guys there couldn't even afford a decent pair of pants to wear! All raggedy and torn. ;)

If they go through with the justice league movie they prolly wont use the hall of justice. Maybe they could use the legion of doom but Im not too sure. If they do go through with it Im personally hoping for Darkseid

Just saw it. Good, but not great. Not on the same level as TDK or BB. Some plot points were "convenient" and some of the writing was pretty sh*tty. Action was decent, though the fist fights were boring. To the point being discussed earlier, putting the Nolan trilogy over Star Wars and Lord of the Rings is generous at this point. Especially since the batman films have yet to hold their own over the years in the same way that the other trilogies have. But to say that they're closer to Transformers in quality is silly, and makes me question Rubber's taste.

I… really don’t know what to say…

I thought it would be garbage until I read some reviews and read the thoughts of my fellow IE’ers here… and yeah, that made me look forward to it. My wife and I just got back…

Wow…

That is what passes for “masterpiece” and “genius” in this country now??? It’s not that it was bad… just that it wasn’t all that great… seriously, look at it this way.
Originality… scale of 1-10… I’d honestly give it a 1… again, not because it was bad, rather because there was simply nothing original about this film at all…

Story/Believability… I understand it’s a comic book flick but these events transpire in Manhattan for three months and the Gov. does………… nothing…. ever. Wow, I expected more there. The story was completely see through and very easy to see the 'twists' long before they happened... Again… maybe a 1-2 in that front…

Acting… no one did poorly, but no one did anything worth watching again either… maybe a 5 overall

This felt like a semi intelligent Michael Bay film… nothing more.

On another note how crappy did the previews look???…

another superman, as though the first fifteen horrid movies weren’t enough,… another 5 hour 'rings' film that looks EXACTLY like the first three... and the one film that looks like it has a story actually worth telling in it is a Tarantino flick so you know any real story/history/relevance will be completely pooch screwed there… ugh.

All in all… very disappointing.

Also, did anyone else notice that the robbery scene started during the day, in which a download started. Then they went into the tunnel, and then when they came out it was suddenly nighttime, and the download is still happening? Just a weird mess up in the editing room.

Agreed. Transformers with better writing.
