Let's just get this out of the way right now. Chris Sale is the best pitcher in baseball right now. He got absolutely ZERO help from his offense tonight and still pitched one gem of a complete game, 9-0. We needed that to break the skid.

Kind of hard to be the best pitcher in all of baseball when you're not even the best pitcher in your own city................ ;)

Been waiting for the Phillies to fall off a cliff for almost a month now. Maybe we're actually good? Run differential is a putrid -28

They keep saying that we will come down to earth but things seem like they can only go up. Yes Nola, Vazquez and Herrera have been studs. But Nola and Herrera are only improving off of very solid rookie campaigns. Vazquez is getting his first shot as a full time starter. Will these guy cool off or are they the real deal? Cause they are really the only ones having impressive seasons. Besides them (along with closer/bullpen and catcher position) it seems almost every one is under performing. Our corner outfield production has been non existent, although Tyler Goeddell has finally shown some life. Peter Pourjous might be the worst regular day player in baseball. Howard, even with decent power outage is batting a mere .168. Hopefully Joseph slides himself into regular duty because its hard to see him doing worse than that. Franco, supposed to be our best offensive player has struggled, hard to see him continue batting .240. Hell even Jeremy Hellickson, who I've seen as a main argument in many "Phillies will eventually collapse" , has a worse era (3.99) this season than his career number (3.92), so its not like his performance is a major fluke.

With all that said, 2 instant solutions would be for the phillies to find someone, anyone call up a prospect or grab any replacement level bat to replace Bourjos in right and also call up any of their dominating pitching prospects to man that 5th SP spot, Thompson seems most obvious but I really like Lively if they think he can handle a jump from AA. I'm not sur if its common for pitcher to do that, i know many batting prospects do it.

Now I'm not saying we are gonna make the playoffs, were not. But this season will at least be entertaining as the team develops an identity. I really think we break .500 on the year. Now with all that said even if this team is really cruising into the trade deadline the last thing I would want is a major trade. I seen an article on ESPN MLB Rumor Central: Philadelphia Phillies could be buyers at deadline - MLB Rumor Central- ESPN that states it could be a possibility. We have too much new young potential to evaluate to strt selling it off. The only deal I'd contemplate is a low, low prospect (sub organization top 20) for any skeleton to put in RF to replace Bourjos.

He has certainly been very good but maybe not the best pitcher in his city. Jake Arrieta has been pretty darn good as well.

The Windy city is playing some ball this year...although the Red Sox did take 2 of 3 from White Sox in Chicago.

Just watched Wacha finally get back into form as the Cards finished off a three game sweep of the Cubbies in their house.

Suck on it, Cubbies...

Very important ball game tonight. The clash in congress. It's the annual game between the Dems and Republicans.
I believe the Dems have a 7 game winning streak. Pretty cool event. This game used to bring the sides together a bit in hopes of building good faith relationships. Now a days I suspect there might be a few brush back pitches. I think it would be cool to have a few vbucks wagered on this. There are a few ex ball players in this game. The hall of famer Jim Bunning used to take the mound for the Republicans.

Goes to show you can buy all the offense you want but if you can't get anyone out it ain't worth a dime

Bucholz needs to go

Wish we could have sent papi off into the sunset with a title

Love the Padres throwback looks... My father coached a badass district all star squad in the mid 80s and they had essentially the same look... Fond memories.

Jesus, if I'm a Cub fan, I'm probably not panicking, but it takes a serious amount of suckitude to make James Shields and the Sox look good.

Another 1 run loss...this time 2-1 giving up the 2 in the bottom of the ninth. BoSox losing some close games of late. 4 in a row overall. :( Luckily the O's have their last 3.

Time to turn the page, I hope.

Can't put it all together. When the pitching sucks we hit, when the hiring sucks we pitch well.

Gonna be a tough month with all the road games too

That really really is awful. He really was a rare talent. What a loss for the Fernandez family and his team, as well.
