After two games, I am sure about one thing: Armando Allen is going to be a beast this year. So, I figured I would start a thread dedicated to all things AA.

First off: For my money, AA's play of the game against Michigan was the run he had at 4:17 of this video. Turns a loss into a ten yard gain, and finishes it off by sending a message. That's hard running and that's leadership.

Unless you are the coaching staff, why in the hell would you want to see every play by Michigan's defense, or lack thereof? Sure they looked like world killers when we had backups in, but they are far from something to be proud of.

Well, to contribute something in the spirit of what I believe Syria intended, I felt that when Crist went down, the team looked shell-shocked. At times like that you usually learn something about your leaders. Some of the "leaders" just looked as if they went fuzzy. But not Allen. I thought that he displayed the warrior's heart at that moment. The worst thing that we could have imagined had just happened, but by @#%*! Michigan was not going to slide by because of it! Allen rose up and hit them in the mouth---every play. He was like Rocky when you thought that he'd surely just go down, but watch the hell out, here I come!. My whole opinion of Allen changed that moment. I'm sure that there were some other guys rising up then too, but they were probably in the trenches and tougher for me to assess. Allen was our leader. Allen kept us psychologically together until the general could get back on the field. If we had won, it would be Allen's game ball.

Almost all runs over 20 yards are due to great down field blocking or 4.2-3 speed.
The down field blocking has improved this year and was non existent last year.

eh... I would say that's half of it... many many big runs occur because the defense flat out screws up or overpursues the play... lord knows the reason this team has given up so many big plays in the past four years has as much to do with us as it has to do with downfield blocking...

that's what has had me scratching my head the past four years... not once during that time have we played a D that has screwed and this team has been able to exploit it???? not ONCE???

I think Armando Allen will continue to have a very solid year for a few reasons. Number one, he is in better shape, obviously the best shape hes been in since being on campus. Number two, hes being pushed by a very solid back with a lot of skills and Armando wants to keep his job. And number three, Armando has grown up a lot under BK. On and off the field he has become a sloid senior leader and it showed Saturday. I think he eclipses the 1,000 yard mark this year and we start to see BK's offense really take off to that point. I really wish that he was around for one more year to mentor Justice Hayes.

I wish he would have another year too.. just for the fact that he is just now getting to where we all thought he'd be four years ago... but Cierre Wood looks offical.

and Justice may very well end up a WR with Atkinson coming in... it seems he certainly has the better hands... you never know

AA has 33 carries for 182 yards = 5.5 yards per carry. Hell,.....it makes me happy.

Cierre Wood most certainly looks official but he is not a leader yet. Thats where I think Armando would help Justice the most. According to ISD, it is George Atkinson that will be moved to WR. It says that the Irish recruited George for the WR position. If you watch and compare the highschool videos of both George and Justice, Justice appears to be the kind of back that fits BK's system. Im not trying to disagree with you, I was just going with what ISD had reported. In the end, I really dont care where they end up in our offense, the key is that they will both be a part of our offense. It starts with getting the athletes into South Bend. From there I'll trust the coaching staff to make the right moves and adjustments.

I heard that too... One would think since Justice has the hands this won't be settled until the spring... we shall see...

He has really flourished under BKs offense, i hope Cierre Wood and Justice Hayes can fill his shoes, and maybe with a little side serving of Jonas Gray now and then

I think he puts up some monster numbers when we play the weaker part of the schedule. He's on pace for 1000 yds already.

People should not forget Roberson; Kelly was very flattering to him as a major talent, giving him props greater than any other freshman than TJ.

I agree; a major reason for long gains is defensive error.
I remember when Tom Pagna was the color on the ND radio broadcast, he would call the play that was going to happen, based on the personnel on the field and the formation and he was close to 100% correct. Bob Davies apparently didn't like this. WestWood broadcasting fired him the next year. (As if a good defensive coordinator couldn't do this also.) I suspect that the defensive coordinators had figured out pretty much what we were going to do with our "strategic advantage."

no shit... my wife is stunned to this day how often I can call a big play before it happens... or call where the attempt at the first down is gonna come from etc.... I can not do 100% like you are talking about but in all honesty... I'm well above 50% when a big play happens... I can call what it is gonna be and where... I'm sure many here can... anyway... the biggest shocker about Denard Robinson was his long TD run... looked like nothing special before the snap, after the snap.........

The biggest key to that run was not just the solid blocking but the fact that Harrison Smith tripped on the backside of a serarate block. If you watch the video it makes you wanna cry almost because Harrison is in good position to come over and either make the tackle of force Denard to cut somewhere else.

Something that might make you cry is the fact that Teo was in position to fill the gap through which DR scored the last TD.

Wasn't it Teo that got driven into harrison smith on that play>? Whatever backer it was...got blew up and cut flow from Harrison smith thus opening up the Touchdown running lane.
