I’ve said it already during the game so won’t beat a dead horse but it completely felt like a Charlie Weis game. No D, can’t execute a PAT, heart wrenching self inflicted loss.

Why didn’t Hobbs just pick that ball in the end zone on the last drive, btw. Catches like I swing a bat right handed.
I was thinking the exact same last night at halftime. Charlie Weis 2008-2009. Might put up 35 a game but gonna give up 40 a game.

Price fumbled against Miami and didn’t get the ball again.

Will they do the same for Buchner? One can only hope ….

A bit of irony just hit me.

This game felt like 2008 ND under Weis and now ND can treat the rest of this season like it's 2008 with nothing to lose: let CJ grow, take his lumps, and get in a bunch of shootouts.

Bring everyone back on the OL next year. Try to bring JD Price back. And for all things good and holy, let the freshman DB's Zakery and Golden come in and play.

Figure out in December what you're doing with your defense and its staff for 2026.

Wow..just wow...

Chris Ash...at the end of the 1st half, what thd he'll did he call? tgey gave a 20 yard cushion with the back 7 sitting close to end zone which allowed them to get into field goal position (they missed but...)

I yelled WTF and my 85 year old dad for the 1st time didn't chastise me for swearing...

He needs to be fired, horrible.

I will not give credit to the OL. Run blocking was poor (didn't see many holes made) and all big runs by RBs were to the outside...Pass blocking was very average and they missed a few assignments which made for negative plays.

Wildcat...NO

I thought the WR played well for the most part as did Carr...Raridon was not targeted enough.

DL...no pressure and poor assignment discipline as to containment on the edge.

I cant talk more...such a disappointing loss...

I don’t like either team I will be rooting for them to lose. ND needs to help itself and stop hoping for the government assistance.

At least I won't have to root for them for a long period of time.

We are probably out of it now. Definitely out when we lose again. So, if not Arkansas, then USC.

North Carolina State is sneaky good too. We could lose 3 more

As bad as the DBs were, the fact is no team's secondary is going to be able to cover that long without the pass rush coming through. It starts up front and that's one area I believe the Irish have to get better on defense.

Now, the DC has to understand that, make adjustments, and put his guys in position to be successful. That was lacking last night. And that's what has to improve. Knowing you're suspect in the secondary due to injury, inexperience, etc., and having a couple of weeks to figure it out. This falls on Ash and he didn't come through. That's what I think MMFF will see today when he reviews the film.

Yep, another night where Bryce Young doesn't do much. Sneed was invisible. Jr and Burnham are not factors. I'm sure we schemed to contain Reed but it put too much pressure on our DBs (and if Reed was a better passer it would have been far worse).
Also, just a thought but if we do not have the DB personnel to play nickel, maybe we shouldn't play so much of it.

The tape is going to show slow corners trying to cover fast wrs.

Gray and Hobbs both need safety help. We have gray to field and Hobbs in slot and we’re trying to help with one safety. can’t do it. Need to put Moore to the field and have him on an island. Gray to boundary to cover less space and be able to jam, and safety over slot wr. Gray and the slot corner are too slow for how much space they’re being asked to cover.

Also, I think young’s in the dog house, he hardly played first half, and then came in second and was getting some pressure (missed contain once)
Traore and botelho aren’t the same after injury, we expected that, but it’s hurting us.

The biggest issue on D is the team on all 3 levels aren’t in unison and helping each other out. Our lbs have no clue where to drop in coverage to help out crossers.

Then it’s team speed, Bowen, Roman, Hobbs, gray, talich, are crazy slow.

Lastly, tackling. It’s pathetic at all levels. A few aren’t even trying like gray and adon.

Shuler’s regression is one of the biggest mysteries. Maybe knowing Watts was next to him allowed him to play faster last year. Maybe the new scheme is slowing him down. But he looks so tentative out there, when he used to just be a missile to the ball.

If you're going to play zone to try and overcome some of the secondary deficiencies, you better get home on the QB. The Irish DL didn't do that. The A & M QB threw less than 50% completions. What would it have been if the DL would have had a heartbeat? Again, a suspect secondary needs help. That help comes from making the QB very uncomfortable. That didn't happen enough last night.

We saw Elko yelling about this but they even replayed it once and not a single ND player is clapping.

This feels like a made up thing a coach yells at a ref and hopes the ref just gets bullied into thinking it’s true.

Exactly. Bonitis immediately looked at sideline & gave clapping sign blaming ND but even the announcers said they didn’t see anything.

Imagine if Reed was more accurate? His receivers had every DB not named Leonard Moore wide open for a big gain or a TD & overthrew them. Are Christian Gray & Gary Gray related?

If you’re looking for a somewhat optimistic take - Considering how Carr has looked / improved and how balanced the offense now is, the defense literally just has to be average for the rest of the season for us to hypothetically win the rest of our games. Reasonable expectation for a unit that was “elite” last year.

Man. Day after and I'm just so, so discouraged.

Feels like all the goodwill and momentum we built after last season is gone in an instant. At this point, I'm not even worried about the playoffs because even if by some miracle ND made it, they'd get killed.

But an 8-5/7-6 type year coming off last season would be just a complete disaster. The staff needs to make sure the season doesn't go sideways.
