For me....shit happens....it was the laughing it up afterwards. Go sit the fuck down, bury your head and feel bad, dont be laughing
Initially I had the same thought in real time but we don’t know the context. Didn’t something similar happen to Carson Beck last season & it turned out his teammate was trying to cheer him up w/ a joke or something?

At least my Saturdays are freed now.

J Love, thank you for a magical 2024 season. It’s September 13, but I would completely understand if you sat out the rest of the season.
He is going to hurdle down the draft board

Yeah you guys saying we can’t blame Buchner is wild. Hes the reason we don’t have the 41st point on a play that ND has executed properly I’d guess 99% of the time in the last 15 years.

Ash and the defense is obviously a significantly bigger problem.
Oh, I dunno, giving up 41 points is somewhat of an albatross.

He deserves blame, sure, but he's not the reason we lost. They would've most likely lost in overtime with the way momentum was going.

lol. Tulsa was worse. 2007 Navy was worse. 2009 Navy was worse. USF was worse. 2016(?) NC State was worse.

Please. Fuck off if you think this was worse than those.
NIU was last year and worse. People really need to take a breath. It sucks because it was a completely winnable game. If you think this is going to turn into a 4-8 debacle, you really need to get a grip.

Is the entire loss on him? No. But he literally has one single responsibility and he failed to do it.

Tyler Buchner messed up one time. Chris Ash has the defense stepping on their dicks over and over for 120 minutes

I agree with him. Arkansas can score and we just proved we can't stop anybody

I am banking on the DL getting much better pressure against the OLs they will face going forward. The defense cannot consistently get pressure with 4 guys. Ash is choosing not to blitz as much (so your BVG comparisons are lame) and play more zone, but if you give a QB enough time he will find someone.

Can this team go 10-2? Yes. I expect them to. I thought the OL played a lot better, and I thought the defense played with more intensity than last week... they just never got home with 4 guys.

I didnt care for the Wildcat packages. I thought they should have run Carr once or twice. I also think Carr is going to be the real deal very soon.

1. Not Buchners fault. He didn't give up 40 points at home.

2. This is a BVG moment with Chris Ash. This defense is not good. Guys are confused, yelling at each other from miscommunication.

3. CJ Carr is the real deal. Unfortunately he doesn't have the support he needs to lead an elite team.

4. We're not going to the playoffs. This season is pretty much over. This team isn’t good.

Feel extremely bad for Buchner. I know he'll probably mentally carry that one for awhile.

Defense looks bad in ways that are concerning. If it was truly just Hinish being washed out because he's small, that'd suck but there's not much you can do about it. What I'm seeing is just undisciplined football. Bryant Young and Traeore both losing contain in seperate 3rd and long situations. DBs looking lost in coverage.

Special teams. Buchner aside I thought they were pretty excellent. Punting was great. Kickoff coverage was good (I think that hold definitely sprung the long TD run).

Offense. I want to complain about some stuff, our OL gives me fits with how inconsistent it is, but if you score 35 along with a "game winning drive" where you do a pretty good job milking the clock, I really can't say you're doing poorly.

We’ve lost three straight games and will lose in Arkansas too, calling it now,….. better win next week or it’s a major collapse
Considering the context of the state of the program after last year, the collapse has happened. This is the worst loss of the Freeman era to me after you factor everything in. The Aggies are not good and they will end up 8-5 or at best a 9 win team. This was a program altering loss and we’re back to like 2022.

CJ Carr has been as good as our wildest hopes and dreams. Proven all the "Michney is the starter" stuff to be absolute bullshit. The offense has made massive plays when they are most needed. The team is 0-2. There needs to be a reckoning with the defense. Freeman took the sheet away from Alston when he proved himself out of his depth. He needs to do the same with Ash

I'll say it again

Buchner had one really bad play
The defense has fucking 50
Don’t let the OL off the hook. Those RBs earned most of the yards they got b/c when they tried to run between the tackles they had no help. On a lot of plays they had to rely on speed to get to the edge. I’m going by what I saw in real time so I’m fine to be proven wrong but seemed like the OL was ass for a lot of this game. Especially Knapp

No shit. Why didn’t we have the tying point though? It’s hard to blame a single individual for the 41 points given up given how awful the defense was. It’s easy to pin point why ND didn’t have the 41st though, on what can be nothing but a pure mental lapse.

This is the second loss, unlike NIU. Likely season ending. It is what it is.

There is zero way players that were successful last year forgot how to play football this year. The offense will give the team an opportunity to win every game going forward but Ash needs to call better games.

Some guys have all the knowledge and can woo you in the meeting room, but cannot game day coach whatsoever. I am sure Ash is that guy. Halftime adjustments have been non-existent.

Jamie U: "the first half was the worst defense I've seen in I don't know how long"

They're 90% the same players as last year. We know what they are capable of, and Ash has them playing confused and slow. BVG 2.0

Nope. Win a game first. I’m have not been that impressed. You’re the QB. Win

Pass Rush is a 0. That’s it that’s everything. At the end of the day they cannot do anything with four. Man/Cover 2/3/4. Doesn’t matter what the coverage is if they cannot make the QB uncomfortable at all.

Taking my fan hat off for the moment:

It was an incredible game. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a football game where there was that much tension in the last 5 or so minutes. We could have iced it many times, sure, but they had missed opportunities too. Both of these teams are good. National champion good? I think not. But I think both would be competitive playoff teams.

Putting my fan hat back on:

Fuck fuck fuck

Ok, taking it off again:

ND has a big structural problem here. Basically no other team in the country was facing a win or your season might be over scenario in week two. No other team has had such a challenging start to this season. And that’s not a fluke, it’s the reality of being independent in an era where conference championships are everything. We need to play and beat good teams. Good teams won’t schedule us later in the season. So we will consistently be facing situations where we’ll have huge games early on. And that’s a really tough place to be when your team hasn’t found its identity yet.

I like this team long term. The defense is obviously worse than it was last year but there’s potential there. The offense looks very good, and should look a lot better as everyone gets more confident with Carr and the O line gels.

But, fan hat back on, it really really sucks that the season may not be salvageable. At the very least, it’s out of our hands at this point.

After the botched PAT attempt, I said if you give up a TD now, you don’t deserve to win anyway
