NY Times: Missouri to SEC "imminent"

NY Times: Missouri to SEC "imminent"

Community - CBSSports.com

Missouri's departure from the Big 12 to the SEC is "inevitable and imminent," the New York Times reported, according to a college official with direct knowledge of the situation.

No specific timetable has been set, but Missouri’s Board of Curators will meet on Thursday and Friday at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where the process of withdrawing from the Big 12 and applying to the SEC is expected to begin, the Times reported.

On Saturday, Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis told CBSSports.com Big 12 officials did not know whether Missouri would stay in the Big 12.

Hargis also told CBSSports.com the league's presidents would engage in "serious conversations" in the next two weeks whether to remain at 10 schools or return to 12 schools. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma prefer 12 members, while Texas prefers 10 members. However, officials from all three schools want the best model that assures long-term stability.
Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said recently that Missouri would remain in the league in 2012, no matter what the Tigers decision was regarding the SEC. However, a source told CBSSports.com last week that it was possible if Missouri left the Big 12, it could begin play in the SEC next season along with Texas A&M.

does anyone know why the big 12 hasnt invited boise st?

They've been waiting to see about Mizzou, but I don't know why they're not on the radar. There are lots of rumblings about Louisville and West Virginia. BYU has been mentioned, but lots of people think they wouldn't accept.

I think they're trying to get back to 12, but not go any bigger.

Honestly, if things settle like this...

Lose:
Colorado, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri

Gain:
Louisville, West Virginia, TCU, BYU

That's not terrible for the Big 12, all in all.

I'm gonna go out on a limb, and guess that it has to do with all of the other sports, besides football. Does Boise State even have a basketball team.........or a baseball team? I know that football is king, but these ADs have to look at ALL sports, when it comes to expansion.

This too...

Football is the cash cow, but basketball is big in the Big 12.

RT @JasonBelzer: ACC commissioner John Swofford slams door on partial Notre Dame membership: bit.ly/qJMteb

Teel Time: ACC commissioner John Swofford closes door on partial Notre Dame membership - dailypress.com

...I am a bit biased and think, having grown up in the east, the east coast is where the hoops talent resides...I can see coach B wanting to keep that pipeline.

However, Football will do what it does...My opinion is that ND is still a bigger brand than the entire ACC and Big east when it comes to football. I'm proud of the ACC for sticking to their guns...but why would we want to share revenue from football with those in the ACC? Does Duke really bring in enough in B-ball to have the share make sense with ND's football revenue? Seems to me that is a "they-win-we-lose" proposition...looking more for a "win-win" proposition. Maybe we aren't given a choice when it all goes down...but its hard for me to paint a pretty face on ND football in the BigE or the ACC...even if hoops fits better there.

I think we are destined for the Big 10...where football fits (well sort of). Coach B will just need to raise his recruiting game some...BTW, even being biased, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan...they all put out some NICE bballers...coach B will be just fine in the Big 10...

So says the author about the ACC's attitude toward ND...the feeling is mutual...good luck, and we'll see ya around.

It seems to me the author is writing from an ACC bias, which is fine. I think Swofford was responding to the chatter as he indicated. I personally don't think there has been any real conversation between Notre Dame and the ACC, just speculation from the media.

The ACC has taken the all-in stance for years. There's no real news here except what was created by the media. There's no sentiment towards Notre Dame either way.

Our source with knowledge of the television side of things said that executives are anticipating Missouri to play in the Southeastern Conference next year and that West Virginia would replace the Tigers in the Big 12. BYU and Louisville are also teams that have been mentioned for that spot. It is not out of the question the Big 12 could add all three, as the Kansas City Star reported earlier this week that the league would likely go back to 12 teams if Missouri were to leave.

All indications are that the Tigers indeed are on the way out. Closure could come as soon as Thursday evening.

PowerMizzou.com - Conference closure coming soon?

article from espn

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The governing board of the University of Missouri unanimously gave its chancellor the authority Friday to move the school out of the Big 12 Conference.

Chancellor Brady Deaton was given the power following a two-day Board of Curators meeting that wrapped up Friday without an announcement that Missouri is leaving the Big 12, presumably for the Southeastern Conference.

Deaton said discussions about realignment are ongoing and a "decision will be undertaken expeditiously." He did not name the SEC or any conference other than the Big 12 during a news conference sitting alongside athletic director Mike Alden and other school officials.

"We've provided information to the SEC," Deaton said. "We would anticipate that any decision we make would be apropos to next season."

The Big 12 already has lost Nebraska and Colorado and will lose Texas A&M next year when TCU joins.

The school also decided to explore setting up a holiday basketball tournament and annual football game in Kansas City with an unidentified rival -- Kansas would fit the bill -- moves designed to answer critics who say departing the Big 12 will gut storied traditions that date back decades. Missouri and Kansas have played each other in football for 119 years.

I was pissed a the Big Easy because I thought their AQ status was BS...But since the BCs and big conferences conspired to blow up the Mountain West...This is a thumb in the eye of all of them...I hope they do it.

I love the idea of having the stones to take it one level bigger than the whores who started it...another FU to the pompous power brokers...way to go Big E.

Comment from Sheahon Zenger, the KU Athletic Director.

“KU-Missouri is a great rivalry. The University of Kansas is a great Midwestern school, loyal to our Midwestern conference and to our Midwestern roots. The KU-Missouri rivalry belongs in the Big 12 Conference. Should Missouri decide to leave the Big 12, we would wish them well.”

Talk about a very polite middle finger pointed toward the east. I love it.

Sources tell Orangebloods.com Notre Dame will decide in 60 days if it will move non-fball sports out of Big East (possibly to Big 12).

Hmmm

what?!?!?
Even if that were so...wouldn't it just make sense to go all in with football too??

I could possibly get down with that as long as OU and Texas stay. I just really don't want to play in the BIG10. I've despised them my whole life I don't want to join them now.

IF Notre Dame has to join a conference I'm with Joey-no big ten. I dont think Notre Dame would get a fair shake and I dont like the conference at all. It may be time-no more fighting the refs for the inopportune flag and it seems that this conference would be proud to have Notre Dame rather than joining a conference where you are loathed and the cards would be stackeed against you. If they do this I would like to see a TOTAL realigned schedule-dropping southern cal /Navy/ etc. There is no good reason to play these guys anymore if your in a conference. Not that I'm afraid of southern cal or down because Notre Dame laid an egg against them this year-but after the things they said let'em go pound salt. Let'em think whatever they want Notre Dame doesnt need southern cal. Classless @#$%^&*$. We had our wins against them and now I'm just tired of their S#$@. If its not the Big 12 then look at a better Big East with Notre Dame in it or join a new group. Just stay the hell out of the big 10.

Source just confirmed: West Virginia headed to B12. Big East weakened again. Will ND look to flee? If so, is destination B1G or ACC?
