It’s interesting that this is the thing that has so many fired up. I have been a proponent of athletes getting compensation for a long time, but I was very fearful of ND not stepping up and playing the NIL game to the extent that other institutions would. To my surprise, they have. With all the changes that have happened in college football over the last five years this sponsorship patch just seemed inevitable and it’s just kinda meh to me. Go win the Natty. Then spend the SOFI money to win another one. Use that money to keep the best fucking coach in college football in South Bend as long as possible.

I think my outrage is that I recognize that the toothpaste is not out of the tube. It is merely beginning to leave the tube. One patch is "annoying but no big deal." Ok. But if one patch is acceptable, why not two? Why not put logos on the field? Why not rename the stadium? If we're winning nattys, who cares? It's just the cost of doing business these days. Just keep the hypothetical future dopamine hits coming.

Every justification provided by fans to excuse this will only make college admins bolder in the future.

SoFi is funding a $1.4 million annual program for the university's "4 for Forever" campaign. This funds walk-on tuition scholarships and provides student-athletes with financial education and career development, rather than direct cash marketing payouts to individual star players.. This is what I have found so far. That sounds good, but in the world of NIL we need opportunities for athletes to make legit money in the 3rd party martket. If the PCSA passes it will reduce NIL collectives and we have to have legit NIL avenues for our athletes.

Coveleski Stadium's wall used to be all green, pure, and now it's an eye sore. We'll see what happens, however, room should be made for Hacienda for sure.

Hate the patch... But $20 more million annually? If that directly contributes to ND landing 5 more top 100 players each year, sign me the hell up.

Nobody is going to care about a patch if it's being worn by ND teams winning Nattys.

The NHL moved to this model a couole years back and fans hated it at first. Now nobody even cares and I don't think most fans even recognize that they exist on the uniform. They're just back to being focused on the game.

It is just a relief for the university, it does nothing for recruiting. So yea! the university saved some cash, but it does nothing to make us better. The OSU deal had a NIL component that helped open doors for them. This one does not.

UA is definitely promoting sponsorship opportunities to athletes for NIL.

-No lowering of academic standards!
-No transfers!
-No training table. Players should eat in the dining halls!
-No alt uniforms except the greens, and only then for playing the #1 team in the nation or USC!

These were the disgusting things that were going to ruin Notre Dame football. Thankfully, the school is now not slow to embrace the things they HAVE to embrace to not only compete, but dominate the sport.

It's a tiny patch of fabric stitched onto a larger piece of fabric. Rockne, Leahy, Holtz...they ALL would have put it on there if it helped ND win.

ND was incredibly smart to wait for OSU to announce, certainly takes the sting off knowing we one upped them and aren’t the only big brand doing this.
