I think the south side will have a videoboard. It's just that if they had announced that or FieldTurf now, it would have completely overshadowed all of the mention about the classroom space and the overall message of the renovation.

The decision and announcement regarding FieldTurf is imminent. As far as video boards?
“It is being deliberated,” Jenkins said. “But it’s not part of the announcement we’re making (Wednesday).”

What is the freaking hold up on the turf? I mean damn.

Read the article about the last stadium upgrade. I am sure it is online. It is also in the game program from '13. They show the positive cash-flow generated by the bond sales last time. With current interest rates, the value of the ND name, there is another fortune to be made.

Wish they'd add more than 3000-4000 and wish they would enhance TDJ view but those pale in comparison to turf/video boards IMO. I care a hell of a lot more about what recruits/players think of our stadium than what the typical fan thinks.

I think the overall plan is to not just end up with a better stadium. I think, in addition to rec facilities, there will even be classrooms, if I understand correctly.

How will this effect the regular season home games during the seasons under construction?

Overall, I love this new plan. I'm hoping for turf too. And I agree with those on this board that have already mentioned that the north top bowl seats should've been removed at this time to restore the view of TDJ.

Personally I would have liked to see the seating expand by about 10k, but the premium seating could be a great way to get some blue hairs out of the gold seats. Most will probably stay, but if it opens up the opportunity for some of their children to take the preferred seating while they go to the comforts of the premium seats, by all means.

As far as the view of Touchdown Jesus, I wouldn't expect that to change. I don't think the University will do anything to further hinder the view, nor improve the view based on what it used to be pre-1997. You know....if we really wanted to improve the view at this point, we should start a movement to increase the floors/size of the library so the mural can be raised lol

Regarding possible video, found this interesting:
[EDIT] Well, while I was preparing my post, wizards already quoted this
Will video boards be added to the stadium and, if so, where will they be situated?
Our fans, especially our younger fans, have been clear in communicating their strong desire to have better access to data and video when attending our games—a view that has been reinforced by their experience in other stadia when we host our Shamrock Series games. Some of that will be addressed through enhanced broadband connectivity in the stadium and some by the introduction of video, but the shape that will take has not yet been finalized. However, to the extent we provide video—whether in the concourse or in the stadium itself--similar to the philosophy in Purcell Pavilion and the Compton Family Ice Arena, there will be no commercial signage or advertising.

Will cellular and WiFi service be improved through this project?
Yes. Upgrades to those services are a part of this plan. Further details will be available as the project progresses.

So they aren't ready to address video board or turf. Damn the wait, lol. Wish they'd expand more, but I'm sure there's good reason.

Edit: in that article, when they say 'video will be addressed either in the stadium or in the concourse' what do they mean by in the concourse?

I know they're looking to break ground in 2 years. But does that mean 2 football seasons from now, in 2016, or after the 2016 season?

I understand that they want 75% committed before moving forward, but has anybody seen an approximate/estimated start date?

The area within the old stadium/concessions probably and the expanded area below the upper bowl? Just a guess.

I wish the south side of the stadium was wrapped around too. Would've added a ton more seats. May have looked lopsided though.

Can someone explain to me why ND should remove existing seating and/or not install more seating or a video board so that a small percentage of people inside the stadium can see a mural that is outside of the stadium?

"Minor inconveniences."

We'll have a new surface next season. That has been confirmed. TBD if it will be a major natural grass overhaul or FieldTurf. Smart money seems to be in FieldTurf. A "hybrid" has been ruled out.

would be sweet if the field turf is in by the spring game....doubt that will happen.

That would be really lame IMO.

They also mentioned "improved broadband" inside the stadium several times. It's an interesting solution. Partner with NBCSports and let people who want video have their own little video board on their smartphone without irritating the people who are dead-set against it.

But "new surface" and still having natural grass is a bit of a no-brainer. They resodded huge chunks of the field multiple times this past season.

If the weather is anything like it was last year for the Spring game, it would probably be too damn cold to do any kind of work like that anyway. This year's winter hasn't exactly been forgiving to the Midwest as it is.
