Stadium Renovations, Uniform Changes

No 18 year old (American) football player likes Adidas over Nike. If you're worried about uniforms, look at Alabama. Nothing would change. Fan gear would be better. I also prefer the look of Nike's jersey cuts compared to Adidas. I've wanted a switch to Nike for awhile but never considered it a possibility.

People get worked up about Nike's uniform designs, but render the schools that wear them blameless.

I would not be surprised if ND goes against the grain and contracts with New Balance… Good company with excellent running shoes/boots/football cleats.

ND would basically tell New Balance how they want the jerseys/gear to look.

Really doesn't make any sense at all... I haven't heard 1 negative word about the stadium renovation from anyone ever. And it sure as hell is the opposite direction of "trashy"....

Exactly!!! Where the hell is this writer getting his position from? No one is disappointed with the overall look of our stadium!!! Just like you, I have literally never heard 1 complaint about anything other than our natural grass turf sucks and it could use a jumbotron. Every friend I have ever brought to the stadium from out of town literally though it was one of THE coolest stadium designs they have ever seen because it has the old stadium preserved on the inside! The day the old stadium walls are taken down or covered will be the day I am disappointed with our stadium. But that will never happen.

Yea no thanks

In all honesty I hope the program does what they think is best for the on the field product going forward. Fuck what the winey fans have to say. Everyone will moan and complain about turf and the jumbotron, but in 3 years you will get over it and be better for it. I love Notre Dame stadium as much as any of you but it has become more like a church than a football stadium recently. There is no life in the crowd until maybe third down. If the renovation pisses off some older generation fans and they decided not to come anymore, good. It will let us pack another 10,000 to 15,000 rowdy drunk college age kids into the seats. I want Notre Dame to be the best at everything I want the biggest and best jumbotron, I want beautiful field turf, I want to have the most people in attendance, I want our players flying around in some crazy kelly green under armor jerseys, and I want the stadium to shake. Time to start new traditions.

P.s. There is no way no matter how many seats are added that ND won't sell out every game.

No advertisements on the jumbotron, install a hybrid turf, keep the uniforms the same (love them and our helmets should be the focal point) and we have an agreement.

See how easy that is.

Ads become a none issue quick guys... Euro soccer crowds had fits when the jersey thing started... now it's an expected part of the uni...

When Moreno bought the Halos he instantly made Angel Stadium "look like a minor league park" with all the ads... fans were PISSED... now?? It's really not a big deal in any way shape or form and never even discussed... again, sweating the wrong stuff.

... Could the upgrades to the stadium drive out some of the older generation that don't agree with the changes and give the younger generations an opportunity to fill their seats thus making ND a much more intimidating place for our competition to play?

Broken record time.

I do appreciate that you chose "older generation" rather than the pejorative "blue hairs." As I age I approach white hair and no hair. My experience is that "blue hair" applies to elderly women in Miami who make a poor choice when they go to the hairdresser and can't drive their Caddies for shit. Trust me – I do "get" and appreciate the hyperbolical reference.

Again (for the umpteenth time) the student body at ND is in the 10,000 range, including grad students. If all students opt for, and pay for, season tickets (they were part of the student fees when I was a student at ND and the stadium only seated 57,075 that only represented (just )under 6% of capacity for the stadium. The stadium seats roughly 80,000 now. The student population has remained essentially the same.

Butts in the seat, primo box or not are what pays the bills. When and if (a BIG if) a guarantee can be made that rabid, yelling, standing blonde hairs (in quantity enough) can afford to pay for tickets, travel and lodging I'll entertain the notions.

They could make the Stadium look like a Bolivian circus tent and have the team play in neon pink for all I care... just win games.

Delete those names or else..!

Field turf and a jumbo tron? And a switch to nike? A certain ND website is going to explode

haha yes it sure is, I said the same in the other thread… quite a spectacle that'll be.

I hate Nike and love Adidas. I would hate it if ND switched to Nike.

Any specific reason?

I am so for Nike its crazy. AU is no where near in the league of Nike. I prefer Adidas to AU any day. I love Adidas shoes btw. I'm a bboy what can I say?
If Nike does take over that will only mean good for our program. Better fan gear, decent fitting stuff finally. Anyone else notice that Small was never a normal Small? And most gear only came in M and up? Crazy. So hope this happens.

Under Armour might be a name to keep an eye on. They could use a big name like Notre Dame.

Go with Champion. They are cheaper than the other big sporting apparel companies and still pretty good quality!

why? Yeah they go overboard with Maryland, but they also have schools like Auburn. They havent changed a thing with their uniforms.

Small nit for optimal accuracy. They sliced off the end of their pant stripe. Otherwise, correct.

Marylan's unis were far worse before the change imo...

UA was started by a former Maryland player which is the reason for the sponsorship and crazy uniforms. I think it'd be a different relationship with ND with us having a lot more input on our unis.

I don't think we would be stupid enough to sign a contract with any company regarding our Uni's that didn't allow us almost full control of them. Maybe not the initial design, but input along the way, and the final say.

At least some of their shoes are still made in the U.S.A. That goes a long way in my opinion.

I've always been a Nike guy, but have grown to love the three stripe look to Adidas shirts.

The switch doesn't matter to me personally, but I'd hate to have to buy another jersey.

Agreed. I like Nike designs better, but UA is the fastest growing athletic clothing company. They're the vanguard company. They'd probably invest in better products than adidas currently does because adidas is a soccer brand first.

I'm with ya old timer. BTW, it was 59,075 before the upgrade.

Every school has full control over their uniforms... not sure what you're getting at here. Nike doesn't say "you're sponsored by us, you have to wear this."

The process goes something like this: school goes to manufacturer and tells them they are looking for new uniforms and what they are looking for. The manufacturer then sends a team to research the school... traditions, landmarks, what fans want, what players want, etc etc. Then they mock up a uniform and send it to the school for approval. The school can then send it back with any changes they'd like or tell them to completely start over from scratch.

If you're interested, there is a long thread on sportslogos.net that has some Q&A from a Nike uniform designer. He has seen his own designs on the field. It's pretty neat and sheds a lot of light on the process. I'd recommend giving it a read:
