As a Red Sox fan, I remember the sanctimonious uproar when the Henry/Werner/Lucchino group announced plans to update Fenway. As it turns out, the updates have been met with unanimous approval. There is no denying that the stadium is better now with the RF roof deck, the Monster seats, the modernized press box and suites and the other additions. The consensus is basically that this is the way the stadium always should have looked. It doesn't look bastardized. The traditions are in tact. Its just better now.

I think the changes proposed in this rendition are fantastic. I love tradition (it is part of the reason I'm an ND fan in the first place), but if the changes are done properly and tastefully then it will not diminish the awe-inspiring nature of the stadium at all. It will only improve upon what is already great about it.

All true.

Though I have read on other forums, that the older crowd who attends Irish games along side the ushers try to keep the crowd noise somewhat subdued. Is there any truth to these rumors?

The part about the older crowd is very much so true, they get annoyed pretty easily but i still scream my head off. The usher part i find pretty hard to believe though, never had any of them tell me to keep it down

1. i want touchdown jesus, basillica, golden dome visible from at least row 50...
when i went i could see touchdown jesus halfway up from ro 58 so if we added 20,000 more seats you could still see touchdown jesus in the stadium.. home side can't see it anyways

2. i want more fans not luxury suites so look at the picture and think add morre seats not boxes around the stadium that looks like it would be 100,000+.

3. jumbotron...
when i saw two games this yr. both endzones row 47 and row 58. i could see all the action fome endzone to about to opposite 30 20 yrd line perfect.. so i need no jumbotron for that watching game i was cocentrated on the game and cheering the entire game... the ONLY reason i would like to see one is for challenges and replays.. i'd rather not have one tho for traditions sake.

My tickets are in the Old section of the stadium... it is always a struggle to "not offend" the people in my section with my standing and making noise. I loved the Bowl game.... we stood the entire game...and got real ROWDY

I will say I've attended one game at Notre Dame Stadium. I sat on the fifty, front row, right behind the ND players. Anyways, I will say at the young age of 8 or so that I was - I was the most rambunctious fan in that area. And the only one under 50 for that. Those old men didn't even sing the fight song or anything...

I think this renovation would be awesome. 3 things I love the most about it are:

1: Opening up the 2nd level to see TD Jesus from the field (or so it seems)

2: The "pillar" sort of design looks like it would fit right in on campus. It mimics both hesburgh, and the dome, as well as the rest of buildings on campus. This would make the renovation much less "gaudy" than other designs.

3: The way that jumbotron is built in. Scoreboards from the old stadium anyone? It looks like it would fit in with the stadium so well, and it gives that end of the stadium a real dominating look.

With the built up jumbotron on one end and TD Jesus on the other, opposing teams would have trouble picking which endzone to try to defend!

I knew this from the begining but you will never please everyone. I like traditions that we have but really putting the Jumbotron isn't going to affect any tradtion. I love the real grass look but as good as they are at making the turf look real anymore i would say go for it. And if you add more seats you HAVE to put up light towers. I have never been to a game yet but I bet it would be sweet to have a night game on campus.

If I remember correct there is a stipulation in the contract between NBC and Notre Dame that there will be no night games in South Bend, though they can broadcast off site night games.

The contractis up in 2014 correct. i have a feeling that with the sale to comcast the contract will not get renewed.

I agree that a night game would be amazing at ND! Unfortunately it is written into a contract that they can not have night games. I sure hope they change that one day because imagine the atmosphere at ND stadium at night...it's already so electric, i bet it would be out of this world!

that would be the last blow we are the only team with a channel devoted for us.. i'd rather expand the bowl to the marks of the pillars and keep the sections on tunnel side we need crowd noise on our home/student side

I have feeling the contract will be renewed. What else is NBC going to show on Saturday afternoons in the fall that would bring in as big of ratings as ND football.

Well...we don't exactly have a channel devoted to us. Ask Texas about that in a year or two. NBC shows our home games, but that is a far cry from devoting a channel to us.

Also, from what I've read, Comcast has the same type of feeling about Notre Dame as NBC, that is, they think it's a special relationship and one that is beneficial for both parties.

With Comcast trying to build up its family of networks, I would be shocked if they walked away from a Brian Kelly-led Notre Dame program...especially when there's nothing like that to fill the void on Saturday's.

The only way I see the Comcast/NBC deal ending is if some other company comes in with a monster offer, and I don't see Fox or CBS doing that.

as the offseason wears on i thought id dig this one up and show some of the newer posters a digital rendering of a tastfully done ND stadium addition. These were NOT made by the shcool but by one fan with a lot of talent, i love the idea and was wondering what some of the newer guys thought?

I like the fact of the cut out to see touchdown jesus. That is BRILLIANT.

I hate the overall design. It looks too much like a castle. Build it bigger and add more seats yeah, but it just is plain ugly in my opinion.

Get the new field turf but keep the same design of field. I'm so tired of watching our players slip and slide all over that S H I T they call a field. Its a terrible field. FIELD TURF NOW!!!!

WOW...I was and still am a big fan that ND has kept the "old" stadium. I was shocked to see Michigan add suites to their stadium but I saw them in person and they look very well designed and tasteful. I can only imagine ND would look the same (tasteful) if they decide to do anything like that. I was always against the jumbotron, and still ok to not have it, but it does look good in the designs.

Thanks for digging it up.

It looks like it cuts out some seating to see touchdown jesus. That would take away real fan seating and then you would add fair weather fan seating. A second deck would not be a good idea. They are terrible to see from. As is there isn't a bad seat in the house. I do like the look though. I only say ok to the video board if it is a daktronics board though. (as a technician I could get free game tickets to be on standby if something goes bad)

The original stadium was all brick, and it looked beautiful.

Post 1997 expansion, it's more of a concrete behemoth now.

When I make my billions, I will pay for most of the renovations suggested in the OP, including a brick facade with ivy.

The turf debate shouldn't exist. There are hybrid options available that will satisfy both the progressives and the conservatives. The system used by Green Bay at Lambeau Field is a great example.

I really, really want to see new screens in ND stadium after being in the big house last week and seeing their new screens. They were beautiful.

Not sure if we can really add more seats. It would be cool to get a second press box on the east end of the stadium, to hold more noise in there. But adding seats might be really difficult. I'm no engineer, but the current second level design and set up, seems like it would have to change dramatically to add more seats.

I think it looks good... we need the screen, the fieldturf, to keep sound in and to let touchdown Jesus see the field better. No wonder we are unlucky... we pissed him off when we destroyed his view. Seriously though, I don't think it's just the ESPN/ABC broadcast and the fact it was a night game against us but the big house looked like it was rocking last Saturday night... how can a team not be lifted to outperform with a crowd like that behind them. I hope those that go to the USC night game give our boys as good an ambiance and help them kick trojan ***!!!
